Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pygame?
« on: February 10, 2006, 08:29:05 pm »
Is anyone having problems with Numeric?  I has only shown up in the modules list once, and it would not import.  Is there a problem with this package?  Is it really 24.2 or is it 2.4.2?
This is with RC11 on a C860.

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / A Few Recent Versions For Rc11^h^h12
« on: October 25, 2005, 03:25:49 am »
Thanks so much for conky! I had posted on the Request for Applications forum asking for it, I have been using a pre-Kathrin version of torsmo for too long.

User Request for Applications / Conky System Monitor
« on: September 04, 2005, 12:33:20 am »
I've been using Torsmo on pdaxrom, it is nice and light and can draw to the root window.  (I have had some problems using it with ROX' Pinboard)

Conky is a fork of the Torsmo system monitor (which is no longer being developed.)   It is available for i386 in Debian, but not for ARM.  Its page is:

Conky at Sourceforge

If someone could compile this for the Z, that would be great.

Thanks

OpenBSD / Openbsd On Sl-3000

Dare I ask how will openbsd on the Z be better than linux on it?

Ummm... maybe a very secure platform with excellent crypto?  Just a guess...

(Not to start a Linux v. BSD flamewar)

Why not try OpenBSD?  I'm using pdaXrom now, after trying Opie, and when the OpenBSD project supports C-860, I'll probably try it out too.  Hell, if RISC OS were available I'd definitely give it a shot, even knowing RISC OS' disadvantages and advantages.  (I hear it even runs on ARM architecture too...)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Xfce4 Finetuning
« on: August 20, 2005, 08:34:45 pm »
I just started using xfce and I must say it's very nice.  I am having problems with it finding the xmms and startmenu plugins.  I get the same "cannot find libxmms_plugin.so/libmenustart.so" error.  I tried converting underscores to dashes and that didn't help.

CPU/Mem monitor, Vol control, and battery load fine in the panel, and will give tooltip readings, but do not display their bars in the panel

Also, if I make attempt to browse for an icon from the"Edit Item" menu, X crashes.

Any ideas?  I have already uninstalled/installed all the packages and it's all on the Zaurus, not on SD.

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Any Mud Clients For The Z?

Just wondered if anyone has compiled a MUD client for the Z.

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Installation From Usb
« on: June 19, 2005, 01:16:36 am »
Yes, 64MB is sufficent, precisely why I mentioned it...  32MB is too small.  As I said pdaXrom's installer is approximately 50MB.  This topic has also been covered a couple of times on this forum.

BTW How did you afford a Z, a digital camera, etc. if you need a 64MB SD card given to you?  I can find those for about $25.

If I remember correctly on Zs <=C860, the USB option is primarily intended to work with the serial-to-USB pigtail and the CD-ROM from Sharp.  This merely uses the USB Mass Storage to dump data into the internal Flash memory, since those models don't have USB host capabilities.  Because the C1000 does have host, you might be able to flash with a thumb drive, but there's the still the possibility that the Z is only functioning as a Mass Storage device when this option is selected.

The best bet is probably to get a 64MB SD or CF for cheap, dedicate that to ROM flashing and keep it with your Z so you always have a failsafe in case it all goes pear-shaped while you're away from a computer.  Keep the thumb drive free for other data since it's usually easier to find a USB slot than a card reader, and ~50MB of ROM installer = tons of email/more than a few MP3s.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Minimised Windows In Rox
« on: May 15, 2005, 01:20:15 am »
I used ROX' "pinboard" capabilities when running pre-Kathrin pdaXrom.  (It was running on top of OpenBox though.)  A minimised window should create an icon on the board that you can drag around.

In your case, you might just need to add Pinboard to your .xinitrc file.

In the Options menu, look under Pinboard and under Compatibility.  Under Pinboard you can adjust it so it won't intefere with your desktop furniture, and Compatibility has other adjustments for ROX vs. windows manager problems.

For windows sent to other desktops, Ctrl+Alt+L/R Arrow should switch you between desktops. (Ctrl and Alt are mapped to Calendar and Address in pdaXrom as defaults.)

Hope that helps,

Mac Issues / Wifi And Os 8.6
« on: March 29, 2005, 09:05:16 pm »
I've been trying to set up a network that I can access files on an iMac running OS 8.6.  I've used Personal Web Sharing to set up a folder, and I have no trouble downloading files.  (At this point I don't even care about uploading, though it would be nice.)  The problem is that PWS auto compresses "large" files.  I have managed to download a small GIF with no problems, but it seems that anything over about 1M  (it may even be less than that) is considered "large."

This wouldn't be a problem if:

1.  auto compression compression could be turned off,

or

2.  macutils' last version was not from 1992(!),

or

3. the Linux version of StuffIt would run on a Zaurus.

Does anyone know if there is an app that will do #1?

Macutils runs on the Z, but cannot handle the BinHex 4.0, is there a more current version that I just can't find?

Does someone know if #3 is possible?  I don't have a Linux box so I'm not too keen on buying it on the off chance it works.

(I know that OS X is better, but this isn't my computer and I don't want to upgrade the memory and buy OS X)

The Z in question is a C860 running pdaXrom RC9

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Games On Pdaxrom
« on: March 03, 2005, 08:58:50 pm »
I'm having a problem with Wesnoth as well.

From this:

Code: [Select]
# stratagus -c /usr/local/share/wesnoth/
It starts to load, screen blanks, etc.

Then I get:

Code: [Select]
Font mapping not found: 'yellow'
Anyone?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Kismet & Socket CF
« on: February 26, 2005, 05:24:40 pm »
I'm having the same problem with a Symbol CF and I can't seem to patch the drivers myself or find pre-patched versions.  Anyone have prepatched versions of Socket drivers they can make available?

Thanks,
NXK

xscreensaver has a password resume option, but it looks like it is only in the pre-Kathrin feed...   maybe someone could compile it for RC9?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Icons Won't Display Properly
« on: February 03, 2005, 02:43:00 pm »
One of the icons in question is an odd size, (the dopewars_weed.png icon that comes in the package is 47x48,) but the others are square.  I have .xinitrc set to load matchbox with --iconsize 48, which I thought might be the problem, but I have 36x36 and 64x64 icons that display fine like this.  Even if I set --iconsize 56 or another wacky size, they all display fine except for the ones I'm already having problems with.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Icons Won't Display Properly
« on: February 01, 2005, 05:09:46 pm »
When I create program.desktop files in /usr/share/applications for programs that don't have one, I get garbage/corrupted icons displayed on the desktop.  This also occurs if I relocate programs that are installed in odd places.  The program.png files are in /usr/share/pixmaps and everything, and if I open the icons in GIMP they look fine.  The programs run fine from the desktop files I've created, and if I use icons that are already in use by other apps, they display fine.  Am I missing something obvious here?

This is on a C860 running pdaXrom 1.0.5 with matchbox/openbox

Thanks
