Wow that thing looks neat... have you tried using samba ?

Well I have got my Z setup where I can access it with Samba but not the other way around, least I dont know how to. I can access the NSLU2 by web but clicking on any of the mp3s or other files instantly goes into copying to internal flash. I dont want that, I just want to stream them. Dont see the point having multiple copies of the same files. Is there some kind of graphical GUI for accessing samba shares on the Z?

I have the Linksys NSLU2 with a 300g drive attached to it, Is it possible for me to connect to it with my Z (SL-6000L) and stream the mp3s off of it with out copying them to it? And also how can I just browse through the shares on it? Thanks!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Why Open Zaurus?
« on: January 24, 2005, 08:48:41 am »
I was wondering if someone could tell me what is better with OZ then the stock image. Keep in mind I have only had my Z (6000L) for like a week and I am no linux guru but do enjoy going thru Linuxfromscratch or gentoo(good learning experiences). Could someone tell me benifits/differences over the stock? Thanks!

Hi xjqian, Thanks for getting back to me.
If you are on a network, and you are connecting using the network, then the name "zaurus" would need to be in the DNS with a specific IP address.  If "zaurus" is not in the DNS you should use an IP address from the network you are using.  Is it on a private (non routeable) network  that you have set up (in which case give yourself an additional IP address. You can setup your own DNS later), or an office/university LAN/WAN?  You may need to have the local admin give you a routeable IP address for you zaurus, and have him/her put the IP in the DNS.

Cheers,
lek

Couldnt xjqian also just go into the host file and add the name zaurus and the ip address for it so in windows he can use the host name?

6000 - Tosa / Sd Card & My Z6k
« on: January 16, 2005, 10:34:08 am »
Thanks for the reply unfortunitly I do not know. Only way I can see what is on the SD Card is the Rio Manager software to transfer music directly to the Chiba and if I were to get it working on the Z. So if it auto mounts it then mine is probobly the same thing you had with the proprietary filesystem. Was hoping I could just pop it in and listen to my mp3s on both devices  Oh well, will have to get another SD card and see if it works then.  Thank you!

Hi dping28,

The Z should generally mount an SD or CF card automatically.  Back in the day of my Rio PMP-300 I know the format of the cards used in Rios was some proprietary filesystem that was only recognized in the Rio.  So it wouldn't automount, or mount at all in any other system I tried.  Do you know what filesystem is on your SD card?  If it has an unusual filesystem on it you may need to help mount out by telling it.

I feel really stupid right now and hope someone can help me out. I just got my Z like 2 days ago and have a 512mb SD card from my Rio Chiba MP3 Player and I poped it into my Z to see if I could see the mp3's on it but I cant seem to get the SD card mounted. Its the stock rom right out of the box. does it auto mount? I tried issuing mount /dev/mmcda /mnt/card and mount /dev/mmcda1 /mnt/card and neither worked. any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Ive never used WEP cause the old Orinoco Gold card I used didnt support it but since I upgraded to a linksys 102.11G card I guess I should look into setting up WEP for a lil more security.

Hmm weird. I havent changed anything in my router setup from the initial entry of the mac from my Z and this morning when I read your post i went back in and verified the mac is the same and they were and just for the sake of seeing, i disconnected and hit reconnect and it appears to be working fine now. very strange. Guess i just needed to give it a little more time. Thank you for your help.

well its not a typo cause  my router has a option to detect which macs are connecting and you can add them to the allow list. its the linksys cable modem/router/wireless acess point.

I just purchased a Z SL-6000L and I already have vonage, but it appears from this thread, I can not use vonage's softphone service with this device. Is this true? Just wanted to make sure. Thanks!
