For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: Overlay Brilliant Screen Protector SLC
« on: July 30, 2004, 10:16:05 am »
Hi,

I just put up some Overlay Brilliant screen protectors for bids on eBay.  These are extras I bought and I thought someone might want it here.

I use these personally on my C760. Much much better than the original protector that comes with the Z and much much brighter.

Please see here

Unfortunately, many of the Japanese market electronics, particularly portable devices\' charging circuitry fails with 110v input. I\'ve killed my panasonic mp3 player charger by doing so. I would highly recommend and even say \"must\" use a step down regulator. I have dedicated step down for my c760 to avoid any risks...

I wouldn\'t bet too much on the CSIDE document. It\'s just a typo.
For anyone interested, CSIDE is the equivalent of Codewarrior IDE for Zaurus in Japan.

But I would be interested in knowning about future releases

I haven\'t used them personally, but most of their SD cards appear to be supported.

Sharp ROMs / Sharp JP ROM: Upgrade C760 to C860
« on: December 24, 2003, 11:58:16 am »
Thanks, didn\'t try that... I was refering to the Backup to the PC (using bundled Sharp software) where it generates files, \"devs\" \"lslr\" \"machine\". And a quick try revealed that it checks for little more than the model name... For example, the machine ID were very different for 760 and 860. Backup to SD/CF is probably the way to go if that works.

Sharp ROMs / Sharp JP ROM: Upgrade C760 to C860
« on: December 24, 2003, 01:00:05 am »
Thought I share just in case there is someone interested.

I just completed upgrading my C760 JP to C860 JP spec. I couldn\'t think of any reason why it wouldn\'t work. It works and while the Translator is a huge file (50MB), it has far better vocabulary than the standard dictionary so I found it worth while. Of course USB storage is nice. Now I gotta decide which way to converge, X11 or Sharp JP.

Steps I took was:
1) Get ROM image from http://downloads.conics.net/pda/zaurus-sl-.../service-menus/

2) Rename the file from SYSTC860.DBK to SYSTC760.DBK

3) Flash

4) This image contains the translator dictionary in the user area, so if you \"Erase All\", you will lose the dictionary. I use SD card to hold/organize some apps and data. Transfer  \"/home/QtPalmtop/translator\" to CF/SD card. That\'s the 50MB dictionary you want to keep.

5) Goto ~zaurus/Setting/ and edit \"translator.conf\" and \"translator_ej.conf\" with appropriate paths.

6) Make sure everything works at this point. Backup if necessary. Then, \"Erase all\" to refresh.

7) Now you can rebuild your Z with the new Translator and USB storage.

Note: You can\'t \"Restore\" from the old C760 data, but I suspect if you took the time to edit the backup list files, you could probably do it. I simply rebuit it and transfered the PIM data etc manually.

When you \"Backup\" now, it will back it up as C860. The service menu will change to C860 as well.  No problems so far for me, but do it at your own risk

Cxx0 General discussions / C760 battery/reset query

My C760 always reboots when I remove the battery. I have never seen my num pad come up (immediately) regardless of the charge.

Actually, I don\'t think there is a backup (button) battery inside (at least the Cxxx). When you turn it off (via power button), it\'s actually in a sleep mode for fast \"turn on\". But when you remove the battery, it can\'t stay in sleep mode and its designed to automatically reset and reboot. So if you need to pull the battery, I think its better to go to the menu and choose \"Shut down\" as opposed to \"turn off\" via power button. I know this is not a standard \"PDA\" concept... It\'s just like your desktop box.

Offroadgeek,

Just a comment, but the steps in the document to get to English Service Menu never worked for my 760. I don\'t think you need the \"re-insert battery\" and \"lock\". Thanks to the X11 rom, I\'ve been going back and forth

The easiest way I found is
1) Unlock
2) Remove battery and power
3) Hold D & M and connect power
4) Continue to hold D & M while pressing on/off button.

No locking or battery required.

Cxx0 Hardware / IBM Microdrive with C7xx/C8xx
« on: December 14, 2003, 07:46:08 am »
Hi bb,

I use my IBM 1GB MD often with my 760. It\'s serving as my media disk for listening to music or watch videos. I haven\'t done any scientific tests per se, but the battery does seems to last shorter compared to standard CF, but it does last longer than using Wifi card. The heat issue hasn\'t been very noticable for me. Perhaps the extra plastic (battery cover for 760) is keeping me from feeling the heat. Again, nothing scientific.

I cherish my MD for use in my Z (and my digital camera for the last few years) and wouldn\'t live without it.

Cxx0 Hardware / Battery Recharge problem?
« on: November 17, 2003, 06:33:50 pm »
Mizzle, I cannot find anything specific to c760 (my jp manual etc), but the 5x00 series manual indicates that flashing LED indicates \"Out of Order\". But it won\'t tell you whether the problem is the battery or the unit itself. Have you checked the voltage out of the AC adaptor?

I believe the full charge time is 4hrs. I simply go by looking at the orange LED turning off to see its done.

Accessories / Ext. Batt Pack for Z???
« on: November 14, 2003, 08:27:05 pm »
Hi,

Has anyone looked at the following external battery pack??? I believe it can be used for the Z at 5V output. It has 8800mAh (5 times that of standard C760 battery!). I\'m starting to get frustrated by the short battery life of C760 with Wifi...

http://www.bixnet.com/hicamiexbapa.html

Any other similar alternatives???

Thanks
