General Discussion / Date Change Lockup
« on: January 04, 2007, 03:47:07 pm »
I tried what you suggested mikew. My Z got a little further before locking up, it actually exited the time/date settings dialog before it locked up.

This is after changing ALL fields, 12 to 24 hour, I changed the year, month, day, and time, am/pm and everything.

The system still locked up.

I assume you are correct mkiew that something was corrupted in the setup files for the date/time data.

I went ahead and re-flashed my Z and the date change works just fine now.

However I have another question regarding the date/time. I don’t know if this should be in a nother thread or not.

Is there some way for the Z to remember the last time/date setting for when it has to be rebooted? When/if I have to reboot (remove the battery) on a system lockup the date is the first dialog box I am given to set the date/time and it’s never correct (not even the date) I could understand the time, but I would think the date would still be set.

Any suggestions besides not rebooting (which is inevitable at times)

Thanks.

I'll probably just have to re-flash my Z (SL-C3200) for this, but I wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem.

When I try to set the date to 2007 my Z locks up and I have to do a battery-removed hard boot.

I have tested some scenarios, changing just the time, changing the month, changing the month and day. These were all successful. However when I tried to change the year to 2007, it locks up.

Any suggestions would be great.

I guess you should know what I’m running on my Z:
Qtopia v 1.5.4
Linux kernel v 2.4.20
Zaurus Rom CACkO Zaurus Qtopia Rom 1.23 2125070506 (SL-C#200) “Nastya”

Thanks in advanced…

and BTW… Happy New Year

Jon J that’s actually the package I added to try to mount the drive. Though I expected an auto-mount.

Is the version that’s available via Install Packages via Network the same as what Meanie wrote?

Meanie to answer your question, once the package Jon J stated above was installed the usb-storage module was already there.

I checked the mnt directory. There’s an ide directory there I didn’t notice previously. I’m assuming this might have been added with the ipk.

However mount attempts seem to fail. I do not get the USB icon on the tray as described in the thread mentioned by Jon J

Thanks for the response.

Power is not the problem. The kit uses an external 5v adaptor power supply (wall outlet) to power the HD.

When I bought the kit, I saw two choices, the first is what dougeeebear and Meanie assumed this kit was. (i.e. powered off the USB) I knew this was not an option due to the limited amount of power available through the Z’s USB. I made certain this kit used either a battery, or an external power supply. (This model is the latter of those two.)

If power were the issue, I highly doubt the Z would even be able to detect the attributes I listed in the first post.

I have this USB HD kit, turns a 2.5” hard drive into a portable USB drive. I have connected it to my Sharp Zaurus SL-C3200.

System Info sees it as:
Code: [Select]
USB TO IDE
Speed: 12Mb/s (full)
USB Version: 2.0
Device Class: 00(>ifc)
Device Subclass: 00
Device Protocol: 00
Maximum Default Endpoint Size: 64
Number of Configurations: 1
Vender Id: Genesys Logic, Inc. (0x5e3)
Product Id: USB 2.0 IDE Adapter (0x702)
Revision Number: 0.02
Convigure Number: 1
Number of Interfaces: 1
Attributes: 0xc0
MaxPower Needed: 96mA
Interface Number: 0

Alternate Number: 0

Sub Class: 6

Number of Endpoints: 2

Type: Bulk
Max Packet Size: 64
Interval: 0ms
Endpoint Address: 0x2
Direction: out
Attribute: 2

It does not auto mount. So I tried to manually mount it via:
#sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbstorage
Without success.

I’ve tried adding the library for USB storage device, and that didn’t help. It appears the system knows exactly what this device is, but won’t mount it.

Any suggestions on how to mount a USB HD?

But does the presentation software only work with pictures and the presenter slides (Power Point) or only for presenter slides or will it display say what is on the screen, such as the Word Editor/Text Editor or Music Player or console?

My CaCko ROM version has ‘Mirror” which I believe is supposed to “mirror” the display on a presentation card. Is this so and if so, is that a USB to VGA or the Sharp CF to VGA?

I’m running Qtopia 1.5.4
Kernel 2.4.20
CaCko Zaurus Qtopia Rom 1.23 for the SL-C3200

« on: October 16, 2006, 01:00:55 pm »
Awesome. Thanks Idrolez. That was part of the problem. The other part was apparently when I used zip to archive the /home/zaurus/Applications directory it converted all the file names to lowercase. So when I ‘restored’ they were the wrong case files.
Now my ‘a’ key works and all my PIM data is back.

Maybe the wrong thread for this question but...
Does anyone know if there’s an application to assist in either parsing the resulting flat files from ‘zdbat’ and syncing them either with Windows/Linux Calendar/Contact programs, or perhaps a direct synchronization program?

I even tried the old sync program on Sharps website with no success.

Well that didn't work.

I zipped the entire /home/zaurus/Applications directory, first I tried to only restore the dtm/ files. None of my PIM data was restored. No contacts, no calender information no todo list. So I tried to restore the entire /home/zaurus/Applications directory and files. I still had no contacts, no calender information no todo list.

I had to restore a previous full backup via the zaurus backup/restore. So now I'm stuck with a broken ROM with no 'a' key in the console, but I have my PIM data.

What did I do wrong and how do I REALLY backup/restore just my PIM data?

Thanks for the tip ldrolez,

I think I found a link to that app:
http://ldrolez.free.fr/software/zaurus/

If nothing else at lest now I should be able to flash my Z and restore my PIM data and re-install ONLY the programs I want.

Thanks all

Sharp ROMs / A Key Not Working In The Konsole
« on: October 07, 2006, 01:15:59 pm »
Sy Ali, I looked for /etc/inputrc

It doesn’t exist. I’m using Qtopia 1.5.4
Kernel 2.4.2
CACkO Zaurus Qtopia ROM 1.23
On the SL-C3200

I’ve resolved the situation by flashing the Z. The ‘a’ key worked. However once I tried to replace my PIM from a previous backup, the ‘a’ key stopped working again.

Sorry it took a very long time to get some free time to work on this.

Anyway I’ve posted a question about just backing up the PIM data files:
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=S...t=0#entry143396
as I ran into some other problems trying to install Gaim and other applications. The solution seemed to fix it is to somehow just backup the PIM data, flash the Z and re-install the PIM data.

Install applications one-at-a-time to be certain no weird problems with the keys startup again.

Thanks for your help all

I’d been having problems with the ‘a’ key not working in Kconsole, Qconsole and ssh (it did work in sftp) for some time now and had started a thread with this.
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=20140&hl=
The only solution seemed to be to re-flash my Z. I did a backup first and installed the latest CACkO, (There had been some application execution/installation problems I’d hoped flashing the Z would solve as well.)
Qtopia 1.5.4
Kernel 2.4.2
CACkO Zaurus Qtopia ROM 1.23
On my SL-C3200

After flashing and before I restored my backup the ‘a’ key worked in the terminal again w/o any problems. However after I restored my backup to get all my PIM data back, I didn’t realize it had saved all the installed applications and configurations. So now the ‘a’ key doesn’t work again.

I’m certain this problem is some kind of keyboard mapping issue, (though I haven’t found the config file for that yet).

The short of it. I need/want a way to backup all my PIM data ONLY. So I can re-install the applications I want from scratch. I’ve checked in the /home/zaurus/Applications/dtm directory and all these files do appear to be related to PIM data, however they are not flat files and are not humanly readable. Are these truly the data files? And is there a way to extract the data into flat files. That would make it easier to sync the data with scripts or something.

So how do I backup ALL my PIM data and only my PIM data? Just copy the files in the dtm to backup, flash and restore the dtm files?

Meanie your 9,800 yen toy was the USB to VGA device?

I was also wondering if anyone has seen this little “handy” device

http://www.chait.net/index.php?p=572
or this
http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/top/micromi...tics-154041.php

Certainly a very nice gadget for the coffee shop  or real work.

Has anyone been successful in getting the USB to VGA adaptor to work reliably (not necessarily for any full motion video, but maybe for typing/presentations/photo-slideshows?)

I’ve been looking for a USB to VGA device. I found one person who claims they got it to work, but their site hasn’t been updated in forever and their site is now lacking that information:

http://zaurus.daemons.gr/menaie/

thought Google has it cached:

http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:139Xyv...=2&client=opera

I’ve been interested in this device, though I understand you need a powered USB Hub to run it because of power requirements. Though I’m only truly interested if it can refresh to be SOMEWHAT reasonable for typing.

I’ve seen two different types of devices, the USB and the CF type, which seems to be the best for this type of situation?

Well, I would assume it uses the standard bluetooth HID protocols which are used by "normal" bluetooth keyoards.
So if they work, this one should work, too.
Do they work?

[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I have seen some sites which state this device (or one extremely similar has integrated support for USB Serial PC connectivity.

[a href=\"http://www.palmzone.net/article.php?sid=211]http://www.palmzone.net/article.php?sid=211[/url]

I don’t know yet if this is true for the model on ThinkGeek. If it does have USB support and it is recognized like a normal USB keyboard then there’s a solution unless you just HAVE to use Bluetooth. (Though wouldn’t that take the CF slot or is there an SD solution for that?)

I assume by now someone has worked out at least standard Bluetooth protocols and applications for the Zaurus? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

There’s another solution and it costs a LOT less, though it does appear significantly less elegant and has a bigger footprint. Though it is a USB device so I would think it would work. Here’s the link:
http://www.virtualdevices.net/

I’m looking at both these devices and await a response to my questions to see if I’ll be trying one out.

Has anyone successfully had the Bluetooth version working?
