Sharp ROMs / Run Everything On Sd?

but i saw a full RAM image on OZ site

I think you are mistaken. Your Zaurus works just like a PC:

Internal Flash is internal storage, like a hard-drive in your PC
External Flash is external storage like a USB-Stick or a CD-RW.

Applications (including your operating-system) are loaded form storage into RAM. It doesn't matter if you load Cacko from internal or external storage! Your amount of free RAM will be the same.

Your PC has almost unlimited RAM, because the operating system moves currently unneeded programms from RAM to your harddisk. This is called swaping.  Through swapping, your PC has allways free RAM.

You can do the same with your Zaurus and create a swap-File on your storage. But, be warned: Flash can be ruined by too many write operations!
Therefor, create your swap-file on your SD-Card wich can be replaced. Also, many SD-Cards have Lifelong warranty - your internal storage has ony 1 year.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.22 Lite Is Available!
« on: February 08, 2005, 04:06:02 am »
Hello, I use the old full Cacko 1.22. On the Cacko-feed are now applications intended only for Cacko-lite (netfront, opera...).

This is not a big problem, but I would suggest to move these application in an extra feed and add this feed to cacko-light ROM by default.

So Cacko users see only the normal Cacko-feed and
Cacko-light users see both Cacko-feed and Cacko-light-feed. (I guess OZ works like this)

Sharp ROMs / Show Address Bar In Opera

Is there a way to show the address in Opera. I'm running Cacko 1.22 and am uncomfortable with the fact that Opera doesn't display the page address at all times. Can this be changed?

I don't think so, but netfront shows the url.

Sharp ROMs / Slow Performance With C760 And Cacko 1.22
« on: February 01, 2005, 05:17:41 am »
On my Cacko-Zaurus 16 MB are used by default with 23mb cache and 21 free. so about 44 mb is free to run applications. I never run out of memory so far.

if you will use pdaxrom and bloated application like firefox you probably will run out of memory. There it might make sense to create a swap file on cf.

I don't think processes will slow the CPU, because most of them are sleeping. However they need some ram.
(i guess qeserver is for inter-prozess communication, inetd is used for ssh)

You might want to try OpenZaurus. ROM file is much smaller than Cacko, only 14MB.  Only needed applications are included in the rom. You must install most applications yourself e.g. a web-browser or the samba-server (to connect from windows).

Sharp ROMs / Sdl Issues?
« on: January 30, 2005, 05:23:19 am »
I use C860 with Cacko1.22 and only apps from cacko feed. So my zaurus is pure Cacko.

I would like to add, that scummvm does not continue to run after a suspend. After pressing the power button to continue with scummvm, the display looks weird: even lines are from the game, odd lines are from QTopia and everything is 90 degree rotated.
Usually I pull out the SD-Card with the game data. this will make scummvm crash and Qtopia is shown again.

I don't know if this is a bug or just 'normal' behavior.

Greetings

BTW: Cacko is realy a great ROM.
