Sharp ROMs / Modem Help
« on: February 10, 2005, 02:37:00 pm »
Hi, I posted this in the 5500 section but got no replies so I thought I'd try my help here.
I got the the Kompany rom and I just bought a pretec 56k modem (CF). I cant get it to work. cardctl ident seems to pick it up fine.
I just need a few pointers.. where to look for errors, config files I need to sort out etc.

Many thanks!

5x00 General discussions / Modem Should Work.. It Doesn't!

Hi..
I have a pretec modem. The cardctl ident output is
Socket 0:
product info: "PRETEC", "CompactModem 3.3V 56K", "021", "A"
manfid: 0x0013, 0x000
function: 2 (serial)

I am using an 5500 with the kompany rom.
I cant get it to dial. I use the ROM'sdefaul network tools.
Its not as if I am using a wrong number or anything.. since it never dials.

Any help would be appriciated (i.e. logs I could have a look into, and docs on how to set it up etc etc).

Thanks!

Many thanks.

Hellow,

When I had the early sharp Roms, I could set up a network connection through USB and specify an IP address. The  Z had an NDIS network driver which I could used to share an internet connection and thus get to the net through the cradle. But after the ROM update, no longer does it work. My Z is alone..
Is this meant to not work?

Cheers

Yes checked it all. Its not the ROM's its the CF card.
Some CF cards just dont work. I found a 64MB card (fujitsu) which
out of the box worked a treat.

Thanks for your help.

Software / "z" And Linux Dialing
« on: February 01, 2005, 04:17:17 pm »
Hi!
The reason I gave to my wife for buying the "Z" was so that I could use it to call into work when I am on call.. Problem though.. I havent bought a CF modem yet but, I think I am going to have the same problem I have with Linux. When I dial into work, I dont have a constant password as such, I have a secure ID card, whose number changes every few seconds. But all *unix programs I know, you have to put in your password, save the profile and THEN dial.. its not a case of putting in the password, just before you dial.. the pass is part of the dialup profile, you are not prompted for it. In windows, its not a problem, as it always asks. Any linux programs (specially for the Z) that can do this?

Cheers!

Yeap..
I tried installing several ROM's, and downloaded the OZ 2-3 times.

Thanks for trying.

You could try reformatting it using mkfs.msdos (or a digital camera, etc.), if that doesn't work you could try removing the existing partition and re-creating it.

The explicit instructions are in the HowTos section.

Tried that... many many times. Tried different partition sizes, different partition sizes. Nothing happens.. the lights just blink blink blink. The updrade to the 3.1 sharp rom with the installer worked using the setup on windows. A new flash rom application appeared on the Z. Is it possible to use that to flash another ROM? Any other ideas welcome.

Hi,
I have a kingston CF 256MB card (elite pro). I cannot for the life of me get it to flash. I do not have another CF card and I dont want to buy one. I am 100% certain that my image files are ok. I tried to install  OZ 3.5.2, and several other ROM's but none work (on my 5500). When I press C+D+reset, the 2 lights start continuasly flashing.
Can someone explain if it is possible to do anything to that card to allow it to be used as such?  Please be explicit in your explanations as I am a Z newb.
Thanks!!
