I believe the modem card should be identified as a standard serial pcmcia device (serial_cs module). You may have to run
> cardctl ident
Get the card identifiers and add them to /etc/pcmcia/config as a card mapped to serial_cs module.

thanks... in the old 2.4.x kernels i had to load serial_cs.o from some kind supplier, id the same required for 2.6.16?

actualy OPIE reports a "Serial or Modem" card when inserted. and there is a corresponding entry in /etc/pcmcia/config for serial_cs with this description... am I OK to use ppp then?
Thanks!

I have a Noname GSM/GPRS CF card that used to work fine with the Sharp ROM. Well i loaded OpenZaurus 3.5.4.1 since i was tired of using the sharp rom and wanted something with more options. I have a Wifi card that the network app recognized and works fine, but the modem card isn't. what's the stabdard way to use modem cards with OZ? do you just use linux pppd? or is there a helper app that works with OPIE?

OPIE 1.2.1
Linux Kernal 2.6.16
OpenZaurus 3.5.4.1

Thanks!

i used the kernal from www.steyla.com i bought the card from mobilplanet 'ambicom compact flash card' 900/1800/1900 i gto without t-mobiile aciivation since i already had a t-mobile pocketpc (which is still a great unit except the 2003 upgrade made flash unbearable.) i think the SP3i have, and GPRS card have better, not as good as the sP3i thought it's been the reception. i'm getting a blackberry 7290 as well. pretty hyped

Just wanted to add for those of use that don't have GPRS (read, Sprint), the CF2031 works out of the box on a C3000 with SDG Systems 1xRTT Connection Manager.  You can get the software from here.

i like Piel Frama cases, have one for my H3450, one thing they did right was anchor put the slasp snap on the back side. the PDair has it in front so it's always in the way of the keyboard when open. really though the only issue i have with cases with the C3000 is getting the stylus out. other than that i like the PDair since these 'cover everything cases' always have a problem lining up with one hole button or speaker.

Also, what is the Esc key mapped to?  Sometimes FN+ the Kanji character two to the right of Ctrl seems to work, but sometimes not.  Very anoying when trying to use vi.

ESC is the [X] button of the OK rocker.

ok,maybe i'm not getting the full story right, there are places that are left to the imagination.... since i'm really productivity guy, has anyone got open office working with X/QT and pocketwork station?  even so, is open offie worth using? i would love to dump the laptop for the C3k, i've done it once, although limited, it really makes things attractive.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / C3000/1000 Keyboard
« on: March 17, 2005, 02:44:57 pm »
i use the C3000 with the keyboard. the keys are plastic with about 1/32 inch travel depending on the sponginess of your fingertips  they make a positive click when fully depressed. the trouble is typing with more than 2 fingers you can't get them close enough. also if you have to deal with 5 different keyboard layouts between the 3000, pda thumb board, smartphone T9 and qwerty desktop and laptop. you can get a little confused which key combo to use by memory... all in all in make a great belly-top computer for the couch potatoes, and it's super on the plane, or crowded board room you have plenty of desktop space left over  i also recommend getting the screen protector, and the leather case. they make excellent additions. the only problem i'm had was loosing the stylus so soon, i've never lost one before!
