Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Help Configuring Bluetooth?
« on: January 02, 2007, 07:01:41 am »
Have a look at the howtos on this site, and I've found this article very helpful:

Rediscovering Bluetooth

It was written by Guylhem (of Guylhem ROM fame, I believe).  Really helped me get my head around all the different aspects and requirements of bluetooth on linux.

I know that doesn't answer your question straight off, but hopefully it'll help.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 3.5.4.x Upgrades
« on: June 28, 2006, 12:28:22 pm »
Hi hrw,

Could you add links-x11?  Current version of links in the feeds won't run in graphics mode on gpe because it's compiled for the fb driver.  Afaik XorA added it to oe.

thanks,

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Netfront Or Opera On Pdax?
« on: June 28, 2006, 09:09:46 am »
Hi Meanie,

Yes, I did that.  It gives the possible drivers but not the available ones.  When you supply an invalid one it gives the available ones.

For example, the equivalent command as above on my desktop gives the following:

Code: [Select]
$ links2 -g -driver whatever
Unknown graphics driver whatever.
The following graphics drivers are supported:
x, directfb, fb, svgalib

So it looks like the libraries aren't available or were not included.  Thanks for the info on the fuctioning driver (x).  I'll chase this up in on the links site and in the OZ forums.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Netfront Or Opera On Pdax?
« on: June 28, 2006, 06:24:45 am »
Hi pgas,

I'm trying links in graphics mode on oz/gpe at the moment and I'm having no luck.  Works fine in text mode.  Finding info on 'links' is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

The error I get is as follows:

Code: [Select]
Could not initialize any graphics driver.  Tried the following
drivers:
fb:
Could not get VT mode.

What driver options are listed if you put in an invalid driver?

e.g.

Code: [Select]
hquin@c7x0:~$ links -g -driver whatever
Unknown graphics driver whatever.
The following graphics drivers are supported:
fb

On the OZ build there is only the option of fb.

I'm seeing this with gpe on a c860, and I agree it seems to be related to cpu activity.  Happened first when installing from the packages manager.

Not sure if this has been mentioned (couldn't find anything on it) but neuros are releasing an arm-based set-top mpeg 4 recorder later this year.  Runs linux natively:

Roadmap

Documentation

Dedicated dsp with ide port +RJ45 connectivity +usb host +serial.  ~$200 w/o harddisk.

Info suggests wifi a possibility.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / "no Space Left On Device" When Booting
« on: March 27, 2006, 06:39:46 am »
I got this too, coming from pdaxrom / cacko.  Make sure your /home/root/Settings folder is actually a folder and not a broken symlink.  If it IS a broken symlink, back up whatever you need and try

rm -rf /home/*

and reboot.  Default settings will be created (lardman & hrw helped me with this one last week).

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Openzaurus 3.5.4 Released
« on: March 23, 2006, 05:32:46 am »
Excellent, that's taken care of the display issues.  Fonts, icons everything is a good size and settings are being saved.  It took care of the issues in opie-console, too.  Since I removed /home/* the console font is easily legible and doesn't indent when I change it.  Thanks lads!

I'm still having the issue with file manager though.  I can't copy from one pane to another; it still gives the "could not copy" error.  Also, I can't change from one pane to another unless I specifically select 'view -> switch to view #'

If no-one else is reporting this issue, again it must be some legacy stuff from my previous installs.  Is there anywhere else I can clean up?  Looking at the output from 'mount' would suggest not i.e. the only non-root mount point is /home.

Thanks,

hQuin

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Openzaurus 3.5.4 Released
« on: March 22, 2006, 11:33:14 am »
Hmmm, stranger and stranger.

/home/root/Settings is a dead link to /home/zaurus/Settings.

There is no /home/zaurus, and there is no 'zaurus' user in /etc/passwd.

I've checked this situation against the collie with 3.5.4 installed and the Settings folder exists, and it contains various .conf files.  Incidentally, it holds the changes to the profiles in console, so that would tie in with the Settings folder being available to it.

I'm guessing now that one of 2 things is the case.  Either I somehow have legacy data from the cacko install (or the pdaxrom install), or that the sequence in which I flashed to various oz images (opie, opie, e, gpe, opie) has ruptured my setup.  These errors were present from first oz install, so I reckon it's cacko.

Any advice on where to go from here?  rm -rf * and a reflash?  I'd prefer not to do a nand restore out of mortal fear of bricking the machine.

Thanks,

hQuin

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Openzaurus 3.5.4 Released
« on: March 22, 2006, 11:01:20 am »
Hi,

I'm using 3.5.4 release, C860, Opie.  Had to repartition after cacko, used 53MB as suggested.

Couple of questions.  When I boot, it take me through the language/doctab/time config dialogue every time.  At the end it gives me the following error
"out of space - unable to create startup files.  Please free up some space before entering data".
This is probably related to my second issue; every time the machine awakes after suspend, or after inserting the cf card, I'm prompted to configure it, even though I do configure and save it each time.  It doesn't seem to keep track of the card.

The font in opie-console is extremely small and very difficult to read.  Any attempt to change the font size, font or colour scheme causes anything I type in to be double-spaced and indented to nearly the centre of the screen.  terminal output is fine e.g. ls will look like
Quote
"root@c7x0:~#                       l                s "
But the output from the command will be normal and in whatever font size I've specified.  Can anyone else verify this?  And the changes aren't saved if you close opie-console and then restart it.  This doesn't happen on my 5500 running 3.5.4 release.

File manager won't allow me to copy files, however I can do this perfectly well in opie-console.  I've been using file manager on the 5500 and it doesn't give me any trouble.

How do I add extra ttf fonts?  I've moved a few into /usr/share/fonts/truetype but they aren't picked up by appearance etc.  I ran /usr/sbin/update-qtttffontdir on the off chance that this performed some sort of import, but it gave me a segmentation fault.  I'd say I've missed a step, in that the Deja font in /usr/share/fonts/truetype shows up with a question mark icon, whereas mine have blue cogs.  Am I right in guessing that this means their magic number is different, or is it simply a rwx matter?

I haven't strayed from the standard setup, and I haven't installed any new software.  I'm concerned that these problems mean I'll have to do a nand restore at some stage, so I haven't spent any time adding new packages etc.  I reflashed a couple of times, but I'm still seeing these errors.  Are they happening to everyone?

Thanks,

hQuin

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / New To C860/3.5.4 Questions
« on: March 21, 2006, 09:49:08 am »
Thanks, that answers the zooming and fontsize questions.

And a fairly quick "find / -name "*eja*" revealed where the fonts are kept.  Thanks.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / New To C860/3.5.4 Questions
« on: March 21, 2006, 08:10:02 am »
Hi,

Sorry if this has been covered, and I've been reading all morning trying to find the answers.

I previously owned a 5500 running oz.  When I got a C860 the cacko rom suited my immediate needs better.  Now I'm back because I've always thought Openzaurus has more potential.

A few questions, and feel free to tell me where to raise them if this isn't the place:

I've flashed from the cacko rom, first resetting the root partition information to 53MB using the pdaxrom tools.  I've installed the 3.5.4 release opie image w/2.6 kernel, and I'm very impressed.

1.  When I start up, It asks me to tap on the screen, and asks for the date/time settings.  This happens EVERYTIME I start up, and when I click finish it tells me that I'm out of space and it could not save the start up files.  I've checked system info and I have plenty of room in all available partitions, although the root partition is listed twice, identically.
/dev/root (/) available : 31208kB
/dev/root (/dev/.static/dev) available : 31208kB
/dev/mtdblock3 (/home available 66996kB

2. Every time I insert my cf card it tells me that I have not configured it, and asks would I like to, even though I'd previously configured it.

3.  Everything is extremely small, and opie-console is barely legible.  Can this be resolved by adding more fonts from the feed?  I don't have access to the upgrade feeds at the moment.

4.  The zoom buttons don't work, nor do the brightness buttons (i.e. fn + 1,2,3,4).  Is this normal under OZ/Opie?

5.  I read somewhere that truetype fonts are supported.  Where do I add these, and does that mean that my pdf stash will display correctly?

6.  My 1GB mmc card mounted successfully as fat, but I then formatted it using mkfs.ext3 and it does not mount anymore, even after I reformatted it using windows.
I've formatted it fat and fat32, and the dmesg gives the following info:

mmcblk0: mmc0:0001 AF HMP 1003520KiB
 mmcblk0: unknown partition table

My 256MB sd card works fine, so it is likely a problem with this no-name card, or with its size.

7.  reboot doesn't work - either 'shutdown -r now' from the command line (opie console) or using the reboot option in settings -> shutdown.  It shuts down without a restart.  Is that as it should be?

8.  Is altboot available on the C860?

9.  Not exactly important - Tetrix hasn't worked properly for a long long time.  It doesn't always remove blocks in lines that have been completed, but it doesn't take them into account i.e. it displays blocks that it "knows" aren't there.  Who should I raise this with?  My coding skills peak at perl.

Thanks for any help you can send my way.

Regards,

hQuin.

General Discussion / stalled file uploads

I've experienced this too.  I've had to limit transfers over scp to a few files at a time.  I'm not entirely certain whether it is file size or connection time related.  Happened most recently when transferring lots of smaller (<2MB) files in one wildcarded scp call.  Lost ssh access etc.  Had top running to make sure the session was active.  Connection died anyway.

Running OZ 3.5.3 (Hentges) on a 5500
XP machine as host

I waited a couple of minutes, then hit the hard reset.

General Discussion / Is The Sl-5500 Ok? Or Get A Higher Model
« on: May 04, 2005, 05:11:43 am »
5600 has a faster processor than the 5500 (twice the frequency).  It also has the option of a larger battery.  Apart from that the hardware is the same.  If you can get the 5600 for a reasonable price and all you want is the organiser and some games, go for it.

I have a 5500 and it has been a constant disappointment to me, but I wanted it for admin functions in work.  If you want to do something similar I'd suggest a more recent model eg C860.  Bigger screen, more options when it comes to roms.
