Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Today Todo Plugin Not Appearing
« on: September 23, 2006, 05:08:29 am »
I've just noticed that there is no todo list plugin appearing in Opie Today.   It's not there in the list of plugins, and there is no conf file in the settings folder for it.

According to the package manager it's installed, and I've manually run ipkg-link to make sure it's linked in.

Any ideas how to get Today to know it's there?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opiemail - Error Initializing Folder
« on: September 16, 2006, 06:32:35 am »
OK, I'm getting the same error, and have tried to find out more, but I'm no C++ programmer!

Situation: attempting to connect to a pop3 server via Opiemail, after a long pause response is 'unable to initialize folder'

Diagnostic action:  an opiemail from a Konsole.  Attepmeted the connection, an reverted to the Konsole to watch for messages.  After a long pause (again!), opiemail printed 'FEHLERNUMMER 5' to the console.   I know enough German to recognise 'Error Number'!

Went looking in the source.  This is where my lack of C++ knowledge may show!   The FEHLERNUMMER message appears to arise from the function  pop3_mailstorage_init() in
noncore/net/mail/libmailwrapper/pop3wrapper.cpp.   The number 5 comes from the response to a call to mailstorage_connect().   I may well be missing something, but grepping through the Opie source for the definition of that function hasn't turned anythig up.

However, it would seem that Error 5 is being thrown by a POP3 connection routine - so what could error 5 be in POP3 terms?  According to the Microsoft knowledgebase (yeah, yeah, but it was the first one to come up on Google!), POP3 errors all start "0x800CCC9" - the one with a 5 on the end is 'No messages on server'.

Fine, so this long pause followed by 'unable to initialse folder' probably actually means ' no messages available.'.  Two things remain:

1.  Why such a long pause, during whcih opiemail actaully appears to have locked up?   Surely it doesn't take that long for a POP server to respond - my desktop machines show a 'no messaages' response within seond or two.

2.  Improved & more informative handling of a POP3 return code which isn't really an error would be a Good Thing.

I'm filing a bug report....

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Changing Sd Card With Root Filesystem
« on: September 12, 2006, 02:51:17 pm »
Hello again...

Having been playing with OZ for a while, I decided i needed a bigger SD card to alow extra space.  I'd rather not start from scratch with installation!

Formatted the new card as ext2 (using a card reader on a Linux PC) and copied all files from the old one to the new one.

Inserted the new card into the Z and started it - not unexpectedly it was't immediately happy.   Rebooted, and whilst it now finds all the applications and starts them happily (well, I've not found any that don't), it has 'lost' all the actual data.  On reboot it brought up the 'new media detected' dialogue, so it knows the card has changed.

The issue seem to be that the /home tree is no longer linked to /home on the SD card - is this becuase it 'knows' it's not th same card?  And what's the easiest way of sorting it out?

TIA.....

You could open a wiki page on the OZ wiki. That would be useful.

The wiki is here: http://wiki.openzaurus.org/Main_Page

Thanks,

why not just use this one?

I know the idea of a wiki is that anyone can add info, and I can't see any issues with turning that page into a 'bugs & workarounds' page - but just in case anyone else sees a good reason to add a new one rather than build on that one, I'm asking before editing!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Addressbook - Importing And Categories
« on: September 05, 2006, 04:43:55 pm »
I hve a lot of contacts in another PIM and would liike to import them into Addressbook.  In fact, I've already done so (by exporting/importing vCards) - but all my categories on the other PIM have gone - all the records are unfiled.

Is there any way of importing data into a category (so I could import my personal contacts in one operation, business ones in a second, and so on)?

1. I still can't find anywhere to set Daylight Savings Time (BST).
...With that said, this probably deserves a bug in the Opie bugtracker too.

Bug filed!  There was one in the bug tracker from 2004 which showed it had been solved back then, but it seems to have woken up again.

3.  Bash doesn't save any history either.  I've found from other threads here that the version of Busybox installed with OPIE is compiled so as not to save histrory, but the problem persists even when  install full-blown Bash3.00.

This used to work afaicr, I'd file a bug about it.

This one is mine.  The file /home/root/Settings/Konsole.conf needs changing to make the default shell /bin/bash.   History then works (with Bash installed - can anyone check if it works without full Bash installed?).

4.  Still the issue with AQPkg segfaulting - even when used for only one package installation at a time.

There was talk in another thread of AQPkg messing up the /etc/ipkg.conf file, and it needing to be cleaned (once) to make it work correctly. Nevertheless, it would be useful it someone would add debugging comments to the source and find out where it's going wrong (for example, it may be that it doesn't like the order of things in the ipkg.conf file).

I've found that now and tried it - it works.  There is an open bug on the bugtracker for this and I've added this as additional information to the bug report.

I'm wondering about starting a Wiki page at the OPIE website for buglets and their workarounds, so that it's easier for people to find what is a known (but avoidable) issue and what is either a new bug or their mistake - would this idea be supported?  (If no-one uses such a  page there's no point in having it!)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hengtes - Issues
« on: September 04, 2006, 03:41:08 pm »
I've just completed a clean reinstall of the Hengtes ROM plus OPIE, to make sure tha any problems are the system's, not mine!

I still have the following issues:

1.  I still can't find anywhere to set Daylight Savings Time (BST).

Workaround is to set a non-working ntp server so that the time doesn't keep getting re-set to an hour ago, but that's not ideal; there must be a setting somewhere (either in the GUI or in a file) that I can change.

2.  Konqueror doesn't save any 'visited page' history on exit as it does on a desktop version - is this design behaviour for a smaller platform?

3.  Bash doesn't save any history either.   I've found from other threads here that the version of Busybox installed with OPIE is compiled so as not to save histrory, but the problem persists even when  install full-blown Bash3.00.

4.  Still the issue with AQPkg segfaulting - even when used for only one package installation at a time.

Apart from all that, I like the ROM a lot; it's just a pity that the odd thing doesn't work as I'd like.   Before I file bug reports, can anyone tell me anything I'm doing wrong?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Package Manager Crashes Every Install

Try to use AQPKG, it's working fine in most cases
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=140536\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

That's the package manager I've been trying to use and which segfaults every time.  As I said, reinstalling makes no difference - there has to be a file it's written somewhere which is killing it.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Daylight Savings (bst) - Not Respected?

Is this GPE or Opie? Iirc, in both there's a tick box on the time setting applet to switch to "daylight savings time" ("British Summer Time" for those who speak English  )
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=140302\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Opie (just changed my sig to reflect that!)

Settings -> Date/Time doesn't seem to have any such box - am I missing it somehow?

I'm using a Collie, latest Hentges ROM, in the UK.

I've set the timezone to London, which at present is one hour ahead of GMT (British Summer Time - equiv of Daylight Savings Time in the US).   As soon as there is a time update from any ntp server, the time reverts to GMT.

There must be a setting somewhere I'm missing!   Anyone able to help?

(As a workround I've set the ntp server to an invalid one for the moment).

Like I said, I have a UK 5500 with the 3.1 ROm and the current keys work as before.

Remember you must press AND release FN, then press Shift+3/4
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=69313\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I re-flashed last night: it all works now.

I'm fairly sure I was getting the key combination right.....

Thanks to all for all the help!

To get the word picker thingy to work you need to install the Word Game it should be availible where ever you got the rom.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=69278\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thanks - that (combined with a reboot) sorted that problem

Now just the currency keys one remains.   Is there perhaps a locale setting somewhere which I might be missing?

Must do myself a signature......

Right, bit of an update!

I've now got the 3.13 ROM loaded.  One or two bits seem to be missing, though!

First, the €  and £ keys aren't working.  Nor is rhe feature of the input systems where words are 'offered' as you type: only the individual letter comesup, unless I've manually added a word.

Any ideas?  Is it worth trying re-flashing?  The lack of words while inputting looks like a missing fileto me - but since it would presumably be in the ROM it would take reflashing to correct this.  As for the loss of the currency keys, that doesn't fit with Tumnus' experience....
