C1000/3x00 General discussions / Has My C3000 Become An Orphan?
« on: August 10, 2006, 09:43:31 am »
Its been a long time since I've seen any questions, discussions, or upgrades for the C3000. It seems people are talking about the C1000 still but as far as the 3000 series, only the 3100 and 3200 are still being discussed.

Does anyone else still hang onto their 3000 with hopes and dreams that it hasn't gone the way of the IBM XT, the Apple IIe or the Timex Sinclair.

Well, I was just wondering.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Diving Profile Software And Tables

Thanks Craig...the software looked interesting but I am certified PADI now...and the tables are NAUI (Not that there is any difference I am sure).

I finally decided I liked the sport so much, I just went and bought a dive computer. Probably more accurate.

Take care,

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Where To Get A Power Adapter
« on: February 15, 2006, 08:27:57 am »
What a wonderful country! I took my burned out power cord to a small electronics store in Puerto Galera one day when not diving. I explained I wanted to buy a power supply or adapter to do the same thing. They took the other one from me...I assumed it would be to take the power plug to make sure it would fit. About 15 minutes later, the guy comes back and has the power cord head open and three new parts soldered in (capacitor, diode and a regulator I think). Asked for my computer, and plugged it in....it worked!

So now I figure...this guy just spend 15 minutes parts and labour to repair what in north america would be a throwaway part. I'm going to get dinged high for this!

Grand total parts and labour and the cost of an adapter to go from 220 to 110 volts...under 10 dollars!!!

I could have screamed. Wow...this truly is the land of smiles! All's well that ends well.

Nw if I could just find a university position to move here, I'd be a real happy camper.

Yes I checked the accessories at Trisoft...but I would like to get the original replacement...again...I don't see it there.

As for the list of places in the Philippines...I will check them when I get into manila from diving in P.G. They are certainly a lot cheaper than 49 Euros.

Thanks everyone for your fast replies.

Is there anywhere I can get scuba diving profile and tracking software for the Z? Or even dive tables for recreational dives (-30 meters)?

regular air or nitrox?

Thanks.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Where To Get A Power Adapter
« on: February 02, 2006, 09:23:35 am »
Hello everyone.

I am in the Philippines and last night I plugged my wall adapter in to charge my Zaurus 3000. Around 5 minutes later, I noticed the charging light was off. So I checked the adapter and it was almost too hot to touch. I unplugged it. Now it will not charge the Z.

Is there some place I can buy just the adapter? I'd actually like to buy two. I checked Trisoft but I could not find the adapter unit for sale there...anywhere else?

Thanks,

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Jumbo Xqt Package
« on: October 29, 2005, 09:55:21 am »
OK, as a self-professed uneducated-in-the-ways-of-linux person even though I still love my Zaurus 3000, I would like some help with this...

What am I doing wrong???

I downloaded the ipk of the Jumbo X/QT package and clicked install package.

I am now getting an Install Error that says "This package seems to depends on other packages. Please install them, too."

Then I finish the install and I reboot the Zaurus.

Then when I try to run any of the new programs other than any of the new icons...it shows the icon exploding like everything else but I get the system stall while beneath it says debian not installed and minimo not installed etc.... it only runs Start X and X/Qt Server, but it locks up when I try to exit out of those applications.

I am running the Cacko ROM -- does that make a big difference in this? I would love to be able to run all of this, even if just to have some alternatives....

Thanks,

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Dosbox For Z

I'd like to add that I managed to get Master of Orion II to work with some work-arounds to the keyboard issues. I didn't activate swap in my test run so past the screen shot below it completely ran out of memory and killed DosBox.

If possible, compile with optimizations and a fixed mouse support: it works very well.

If I could get DOS and MOO 2 running on my Zaurus, I'd never let it alone again. Any .IPKs that will install both and run everything correctly?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / User Guide Online
« on: October 12, 2005, 10:34:48 am »
If anyone wants an instructional designer with editing experience, I am more than willing to offer my services. I'm not knocking any of the manuals, and as a linux newbie and zaurus beginner (still) I appreciate ALL of the files, manuals, and upgrades I can get...but if I might point out something that is representative of a clean-up edit:

"We know you'll be itching to start playing with your new toy, sorry device, so we'll be brief. If you do nothing else with this User Guide, we suggest you at least do the following:"

The way the above quote is written, it seems like you are saying that the toy is a sorry device. If you are going to stay with the familiar attempt at humor, try this instead:

"We know you'll be itching to start playing with your new toy - sorry, device - so we'll be brief. If you do nothing else with this User Guide, we suggest you at least do the following:"

Hope that helps a little.

Hi Everyone,

A while back I posted here mentioning that I could not get movies to work on my Zaurus. I was given two really good suggestions:

1. Use the site at http://www.double.co.nz/zaurus/ to encode movies to WMV format.

2. Use Mplayer and KINO2 to play movies of all formats.

Well, I tried the second option and still could not get movies to work. So I tried option 1

I downloaded Windows Media Encoder and followed the directions at the website...and it worked like hot spit! I converted a lot of movies and put them on my Zaurus to watch on the plane ride to Canada and back this summer. While in Canada, I bought a new laptop, and sold my old one. I get back to Korea and download Windows Media Encoder to start encoding larger movies to be used with my 1 Gb card.

But something was wrong. The new Windows Media Encoder available for download is not the same one I was using and does not give the same options for video and audio.

So what I am asking is...does anyone have an older version of Windows Media Encoder that I can download, or does anyone have a better working solution for the Mplayer/Kino2 problems?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there an English <--> Hangul dictionary out there that I can input English and see the Hangul translation, the phonetic English translation, and listen to the way it is said through the speaker?

Thanks for replies,

Thanks Rick,

Actually I found that site, but that site simply shows you who sells it online. Places like Best Buy, Future Shop, etc. and they don't ship to Korea. When I go back to Canada this Summer, if I don't already have it, then I will get it there.

I think I will check out ebay.

I really want to thank everyone on this board and the software board...I have truly been tipping my toes into the linux waters when I decided to get the Zaurus rather than a Pocket PC based system...I'm used to Microsquash so I don't give it much of a second thought...I've worked with IBM based DOS's since 1986.

But in any case...you're all showing a lot of patience with me when I ask, check, and then re-check. One of these days I hope someone will take me under their wing and elmer me through when I actually want to start doing patches and codes for things as I've seen others do on here.

Having said all that....I was at my friendly neighborhood megastore (groceries, clothes, household, electronics) and there, in the back corner, was a USB Portable cable kit with the retractable cable and the 5 different adapters...marketed here in Korea by Cosy. Looks like I am in business...I am one step farther to having my own movie library to watch on the 16+ hours its going to take to get back to Edmonton this summer.

Now if I can just find one of those battery operated usb 4-port hubs I'll be really excited.

Many thanks,

The iRiver cables do work on the C1000/C3000 too.

Plus you could check StremlineCPUS for these cables too.
In fact they included one such cable as part of the package they sell when I ordered my C1000. It works as well as my iRiver cable.

Also when I ordered my Archos ArcDrive 20GB Micro HDD, it came with two more such cables - one smaller than all the rest (with some flexible wire in between the two ends) and a longer one.

OK, I am going to sound really thick here, but I need to make sure about this. Does the iRiver cable work so that I can hook the C3000 up to a USB port, and then play movies, music, or call other files (MS WORD, etc) onto the Zaurus? Or that I can even print files from the C3000

I ask this (because I do not have an iRiver) because I thought the iRiver acted only as a receiver from a 'puter...not the other way around.

Sorry again for double checking....
