Angstrom & OpenZaurus / How To Get Wlan Working On Sl-6000

Hello Forum,

today I flashed from the original Sharp-ROM because I wanted to give OpenZaurus and OPIE a try. But there are several things where I didn't find my way around:

Problem 1:
After setting up my "Network Settings" for Wireless-LAN (interface "wlan0") and hit the "Start/Stop"-button, I get the message:
"Starting interface failed"

*SNIP*

Thanks in advance for your help

Look thru the directions for OZ/Opie again. They mention that you need to start and stop the WiFi via console commands:

ifup wlan0

ifdown wlan0

My 6000 has worked randomly via the wifi GUI. I am used to executing via the console at this point.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Squeeky Clean Install?

Am I executing these commands at /home/root path? Or should I execute them at the root /

You want to delete your home directory (not everything on the Z), so it has to be in /home/root - I'd go for Greg2's suggestion in fact (post above this one).

Try:

rm -rf ~/*

(does that get hidden files too?), you might then need to do:

rm -rf ~/.*

Two possibillities: Erase the 2nd partition from the update menu; or boot up, rm -rf $HOME/*, reboot.

Mickey & lardman,

I tried rm -rf $HOME/* then flashed with OZ/Opie. Again, I am still seeing apps, etc from before.

I looked around both update menus (pwr + ok) & (pwr +d +m) and I see nothing specific to deleting partitions.

Sooo, to prevent me  from becoming a brickmaker  I would like a bit more detail to the delete partiton process.

Thanks,
jawZ

Thanks for the information, Mickey.

Would you suggest I do this before, or after the re-install of OZ?

Hi,

I converted my 6000 to OZ/Opie 3.5.3 after several months of the Sharp ROM.

Whilst recently peruzing the Z, I have noticed files/folders I installed back in the days of tinkering with the Sharp ROM.

How do I erase all that is not needed and install a clean flavor of OZ/Opie??

I have searched the forums and see the suggestion to merely flash the Z with the ROM of of choice to "reset" it.

However, with the files and folders I have found after the switch to OZ, I am thinking I need to perform a few added steps.

Any input is appreciated

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Connecting To Wep Network
« on: May 13, 2005, 06:49:51 pm »
Currently having trubs connecting to my secure network. I am unable to obtain a lease.

Cisco 1100 AP
SSID is not advertised
128-bit WEP is enabled

I have had success connecting to an unsecure wireless network (also 1100 AP)

I suspect my /etc/network/interfaces file is the culprit @ this point.

Anyone care to post their file so I may compare??

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
JawZ

Hi,

I jut recently upgraded from OZ 3.5.2 to 3.5.3 on my Zaurus SL-5600, and I reformatted it so that it is clean.  Everything works great, but when I went to sync everything, I found out that, although it detects my AmbiCom WL1100C WIFI Card, it doesn't recognize any wireless connections under networking.  I tried bringing down all my security on my router, but there is still no card under wlan0.    If I try to start wlan0, it just tells me "Starting Interface Failed".  Why is this happening?  Also, wasn't the connection for the wireless card on the old OZ called wifi0?  Thanks.

Matt,

For what it is worth. I did a fresh install of OZ 3.5.3/Opie1.2 on my 6000. And I had troubles getting the card (internal) to start.
Initially, I used the recommended IFUP WLAN0 method, but it did nothing. So I used the Opie Network GUI to configure and then start it, which succeeded except for getting a DHCP addr. I brought the card down using IFDOWN WLAN0 (GUI failed to down it).
Since then, I have been successfully using the recommended IFUP WLAN0 & IFDOWN WLAN0 method to start/stop the card. Although I am still trying to obtain a lease via DHCP but I have had little time as of late.

Hope this helps

If you install opie-sh... you can give this a try on your 6000. I say 'try' because your wireless is built in... so I'm not sure.

I have OZ 3.5.3 running on my 6000.  Thanks to the developers and those involved for all their hard work!!

I am trying to get my wireless up and running and I have multiple WiFi areas I travel to. How can I ease the process of changing my wlan0 settings? Can it be automated?

Thanks,
JawZ

Greets,

Noobie mode please!

I need an assist on getting my data from my old handspring to my Z6k. Even if it consists of pointing me to a suitable forum.

I cannot beam

I tried using the palm desktop warez, but it really does not match-up to what the factory sharp ROM has. I would like to get the data into Qtopia desktop (winxp). I see they are using xml.
I thought of just following the 3 entries already listed in the XML file, but I do not know what troubles it may cause. Not sure how the Uid number is generated, etc.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

TIA
JawZ
