I thought Cacko supported the c3000 already..

All I ever heard of was a very old beta.
Not sure how stable it is.

I just want to post this information about the bluetooth.  I know many are looking for cf bluetooth cards that work and i would like everybody to post the ones that do work with bluez.

Here is a list of places you can by the one i use-
ambicom bt2000-cf bluetooth-made in taiwan
-------------------------------------------------------
Make sure it-
1. made in taiwan and the
2. antena is black and not blue.

I haven't seen any of the black ones around here.

I guess it isn't even worth opening the package if it has a blue antenna, is it?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Serial Port On Sl-c3000

I have a SerialIO cable that I used with my old 5500 (Zaurus to 9-pin connector).  Anyone know if it will work with a C1000?  I'm getting a unit from Japan, but if it doesn't work that will put a damper on any serial connection to Cisco equipment.  I'd rather not spend more buying new cables.  Thanks,
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=86072\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I have successfully used it with a Cisco 1840 router.  The only tricky part is getting from 9-pin female
to the RJ45 that Cisco uses.  I have an adaptor that does this.  Not sure where it came from or who
made it as it has no markings on it.  I've also gotten it to work with the Cisco RJ45-to-9-pin cable
and enough other adapters to connect it to the Zaurus serial cable  (may have had a null modem
in there too).

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Cacko 3k Usage Poll
« on: June 27, 2005, 02:07:10 am »
Has anyone actually gotten the Ambicom WL1100C to work with Cacko on the 3K
or would I need to buy a new wireless card if I want to use Cacko?

If you got it to work, can you use it with WPA?

CF CDMA and GPRS modems do exist.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=84155\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Is there any CF CDMA card that can be made to work on Verizon?
The only CF CDMA card I've seen is only for Sprint, and their coverage is nonexistant here.
GSM doesn't work up here either, because 1.9ghz doesn't have the range.   Only Verizon
works in the fringe areas of Northern California, and they don't sell any CF cards.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Where Can I Get A Usb Mini-a Online?

With the Zaurii and other mini-USB ported devices you have to be really careful about the mini ports because the differences between the A and B connectors and prots are very slight, and in some cases though I think the A may fit in a B port, (I could be bassackwards here, sorry), it would not function as required.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=83422\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Actually, the Zaurus port is both Mini-A and Mini-B.   The only difference is some internal jumpering
in the cable.

If you plug in a Mini-A to A-female like the iriver or the blackbox cable, you can attach USB devices
to the Zaurus.

The sync cable that comes with the Zaurus is Mini-B to A (male), to make the Z look like
a device when plugged into to another machine.   In this case, the software on the Z makes it
look like either a USB disk or a USB network adaptor.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Nice Case
« on: June 02, 2005, 03:29:06 am »
I'm using a case made by HP for one of their PDA's.
About $13.
Goes in endwise.  Can close the case with a CF wireless card inserted.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / A Kernel With Everything

Is this kernel sufficiently similar to the Sharp kernel that these modules would
work with the Sharp kernel?

Is there a .config file for this kernel?

I've created a HOWTO on restoring a C3000 from scratch.
Other than hardware problems, there should never be a need to send it back for reflashing.
I hope it helps.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=59571\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I tried to Use your guide to restore my zaurus 3000. I orignially screwed the pooch installing openBsd 3.7.

And now i only get HDD1 error.

So following your instructions i get to step 4. type in your commands and get this
"
modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module block-major-22
/dev/hdc: No such device or address

sfdisk: cannot open /dev/hdc read-write
"

might be on /dev/hda if there's nothing in the CF slot.

If i try using the "mkhdd.sh" file i pretty much get the same error ... just more words to it ... MUCH MORE.

Some one help a newbie out please! Im going on a week trip on thursday and would really love to have a working Zaurus by then!

Hi All,

I got my C1000 on Friday of last week. I charged it over night on Friday night, unplugged it and used it off the mains for some time on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, the last time I looked at it it was a half battery symbol on Tuesday night. Then I tried to turn it on, on Wednesday and it was dead as a dodo. I had to recharge it again.

This happened to anyone?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=80560\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I think the "half battery" symbol actually means "almost dead".

A more accurate battery meter would be nice.

Well, I've used an Archos MiniCDRW2 USB drive off of my C3000, for both reading and burning CDs.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=79639\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Has anybody gotten the older model Archos MiniCDRW (not the 2) to work with the C3000?

Windows can defrag USB drives so if you really want to defrag your Z, plug it in via the usb cable and let windows do the wonders

All in all, in addition to the Sharp original ROM, there is (or will be in the near future) the Cacko ROM (Sharp-based), the OpenZaurus ROM (Opie-based), and I think you can probably install Debian as well (didn't try that one, I suspect the install to be longer or more difficult than the two other ROMs)
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=79681\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Actually, Debian is the easy one, because it all runs under the regular Sharp ROM.
You don't need to repartition your disk, or reflash anything.
You can go in and out of it at will.  All your existing packages and data are still on there.
The Debian environment is run chroot'ed so  Debian's different app and library versions can
coexist with what is already there on the Z.  It requires a linux filesystem, but that need not
be a whole disk partition, it can be on a disk file,  which avoids complications with restore
(that may occur if /hdd3 is changed from fat to something else).

It occurs to me that the process could be made even easier if someone prepares a .ipk
containing a working Debian disk image.

The downside is that some of the Debian stuff is slow on the Z, since it was mostly written with
2-3ghz processors and gobs of memory in mind.  A swap file is recommended.

(Some of the earlier descriptions for installing Debian required rebooting to switch between them,
using a vnc client and server, and reformatting hdd3 as ext2.   None of this is necessary).

General Discussion / Internal Solid State Memory

Hi

I was wondering whether the internal solid state memory is just as prone to extended writing as SD and CF flash cards is?

If so, what do you guys use for swappartition on your zauruses? Guess either one's internal memory or one's flash cards will suffer greatly from performing such a task

[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=79012\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Yes - the internal flash on the Z's is just as prone to wearing as the flash cards are. Most people swap to a flash card or microdrive.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=79082\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Lately I have been seeing SD flash cards with a "Lifetime Warantee".
If you've got to swap to flash,  maybe use one of those.

Has anyone hooked a C3k (or any other Zaurus) up to an Ipod?
It seems to recognize it as a mass storage device, but I couldn't mount it.
It does not seem to recognize the partition scheme.

This would hopefully not have the same problems as a regular usb disk,
since it has its own batteries.  It wouldn't be able to charge off the Z of course.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=79184\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I think that's because the ipod has by default the HFS filesystem on it... I don't think the Z can recognize that... (I could be wrong)

Time to compile the hfsplus driver....
