Accessories / CF wired Ethernet card - recommendations?

Good day!

Does anyone have a recommendation, either pro or con, for a wired Compact Flash Ethernet card?  I'd like to pick one up for added connectivity options, but I'd like to get one which has a high rate of compatibility and/or decent throughput.  So, I'm looking to hear what you're using and what your experience has been, either good or bad.

Accessories / Trouble-free wireless network CF cards ... anyone?

How does the cacko ROM compare in terms of using WiFi out of the box?  I cannot get the Symbol card in my860 to see my already functional wireless LAN for anything!  I\'ve  turned WEP on & off, used infra & 802.11b, specified the SSID % specified \"Any\" - I\'m fresh out of ideas!  Anyone have a thought on this or similar experience?

Riiiight...  My C860 is scheduled to arrive  tomorrow, complete w/Japanese manual.  Since my only other language is Spanish, would you point me to a link to an English Z (preferably 8xx) manual?  Much obliged!

General Discussion / Volatile RAM in the C[78]xx series?

Question:  Is the storage in the C[78]xx series volatile or nonvolatile?  I\'m specifically referring to one\'s data.  I\'ve read that the SL-6000 will have NVRAM, which led me to wondering whether any other models have that feature or if they\'re dependent on a battery to keep the data intact.  The reason I ask is that I\'d like to know how important it is to backup your Zaurus prior to the battery running out.  On some PDAs you lose everything and on others you lose nothing.

Where do the Zaurus models fit in that spectrum?

General Discussion / Touch typing on a C[78]x0

I\'ve heard much exhortation over the awesomeness of the C[78]x0 models, and I\'m guessing it\'s because of the large, bright screen, long battery life, and the \"full\" QWERTY keyboard.  This led me to wonder how often a person actually uses the C[78]x0 keyboard in daily PDA usage, hence the poll below.

In addition, of those who do use the keyboard, how is it for touch typing, as we do on full size keyboards?  Do you end up hunting & pecking because it\'s too small?  Do you just revert to writing & HWR instead?

My experience is that I bought a keyboard for my Newton, but found myself almost never using it.  With the excellent handwriting recognition (HWR), I could just write out the info longhand and it would be automatically turned into text.  About the only time I use the on-screen keyboard nowadays is to enter URLs, because they\'re not usually individual words.

Well, if a 5500 broke, at least you could send it in & have it fixed.  I doubt it would be so easy w/an imported unit.

General Discussion / In search of the elusive SL-6000

Good day, all!

I know that we\'re now in the reported drop-zone for the launch of the SL-6000.  I\'ve finally decided to make the leap  to this model instead of my long sought C760 (I was waiting for a fully supported U.S. release), so now it\'s just a matter of finding one when they\'re available.  What better place to ask this question than the ZUG home?

Some  personal PDA background:  I\'m a long-term Apple Newton 2100 user.  I went from a Sharp Wizard to a Newton 130 in 1997, then to a Newton 2100 in 1998.  Since then it\'s been my  portable computing solution/laptop replacment and has served me quite well.  I\'m still using my Newton on a daily basis, but decided that the Zaurus would be my upgrade platform when I saw my first one ~18 months ago.  I\'ve been waiting for the \"perfect\" model and I think this (SL-6000) is it, or as close as I\'m going to get.  I\'ve been a lurking member of this board for a while and much of the input I\'ve seen has helped solidify my choice of PDA rehost platform.  Thank you all for your great info and the ZUG community - I\'m looking forward to joining it in full throttle soon.

So, if you hear any news regarding the release of the 6000, please respond to this post.  I would really appreciate it.  Thank you!
