well, here's some screenshots from the Z
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=76552\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Thank you very much! I've added the new screenshot, staying with the default Qtopia theme.      Please note, that voctrain also comes with some fancy icon in the data.tgz.    If you install it with "ipkg", it should create a desktop icon under "applications".

Meanwhile, I've asked Elsix contact if they would be so kind and put the project back online.

You are talking about the localization of Jeode. If you have a Jeode conforming to your country, the buttons should appear in your language. I don't know how to set this with Java to make a new screenshot, and it is low priority to find out, since the buttons in a file dialog are very common and easily to guess.

Still, my project on Elsix is deleted, and I don't know why. Do you think this is ok?

I should install it and see if the buttons appear in Japanese on my Z

In general, java has a i18n api, but unless you explicitly use it and create the various locale.properties files and put the text into them, it will only display in your local language.

Well, I see. Meanwhile, I've checked the bug and it does not play a bigger role on the Zaurus, since Jedoe is actually in english. The screenshot you were talking about is that of java running on KDE. I've added a Qtopia screenshot at the above URL, maybe later I will also add the Qtopia file requester to the english page and remove the KDE file requester as a solution which goes with little effort for me.

Can you make an English version? 2 of the buttons are in German and I don't understand what is written up the top.

I don't know what you're talking about. Vocabulary Trainer is completely in english.

Hi folks,

I've just discovered that my project has been removed from Elsix, without any message to me, and without any obvious reason.

I'm not planing to upload it again until I know what game is played there. I'm just informing you that projects are just deleted without any reason.

If you still want to try out vocabulary trainer, search it at "Zaurus Software Index" or at source forge.

Greetings,

Kodo

Sharp ROMs / Why Cacko Is So Slow?
« on: March 30, 2005, 03:39:54 pm »
Thanks kahm, that was enlightening.

Its easy to validate swap partitions as write intensive, considering that every running process may buffer its volatile data into it, refreshing it every now and then - when streaming encoded music, for example, this is happening in a rather high frequency, if part of it is decoded in your flash partition. So my guess is that the warning should be taken serious.

On the other hand, if you are trying to do a memory intensive task, it could be the only way to activate a swap partition to get it done. Then one should not forget to erase the swap partition afterwards, since Cacko mounts any existing swaps at boot time and this could be forgotten easily.

A less critical way to poke some memory out of the Z is to stop the qeserver-threads when you actually don't need them (you will see which Qtopia programs run without them, once they are stopped). On my C700, I found this the only way to comfortably use zeditor and compile Java source with Kopi in QConsole at once. If you stop your running qeservers, however, you have to restart them with the zaurus user and qpe group as command line parameters, when you need them again:

Code: [Select]
$ qeserver zaurus qpe
If you need them for system administration tasks, like changing your tab configuration with the "Tab Setting" application, you should start a qeserver as root, but give it the same user and group parameters as shown above. Personally, I'm using a toggle script for this which can be triggered from a desktop icon.

Try adding 64 Mb a swap file on your SD card - you'll see the difference, especialy if you're using Korganizer PIMs.

any tutorial for doing that?

i tried before
because i forgot to do fsck after reboot
it almost kill my SD

Adding a large swap partition would really be the finest solution for many problems. Yet, I've heard rumours stating that flash cards can stand only a limited number of write operations before they report themselves as gone. Would anybody report about doing a swap-partition on a SD card, using it for a longer time, happily without the forementioned feared problem?

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.22 Lite Is Available!

Its great! Thats the third Cacko I've flashed, but now I've more free space in the root than ever!

I've immediately installed Super Tux, now that I had so much space left.

But when I've installed the ToDo-List application, it looked weird, with big squares in the item-view:

Can you help me with this? I think it wasn't exaclty that way before, was it?

Try to install small icons package or other Sharp PIM applications (datebook, addressbook) from the feed.

Thanks,  Anton! I've already considered the reason to be a dependency with other Cacko/Qtopia-feed, not yet put into the ipkg dependency field, which is surely a horribly complex task to do for all the newly packaged Qtopia applications.

I'm sorry to say that meanwhile I've had another unwanted surprise with both Cacko Lisa, the light and the full version: when installing qtopia-advancedfm_1.0_arm.ipk, immediately after the shell prompt is given back, all fonts are gone from the desktop and the applications one will start, leaving Qtopia in an unusably state of being on a C700 device. With Cacko Elena, the installation of qtopia advancedfm 1.0 did not disturb anything, so I guess the bug targets a problem introduced with Lisa, the latest Cacko Qtopia ROM.

For myself, I'm now back to Elena, since I've been quite satisfied with it and am not sure why I should switch right now, other than the fresh cool background and icons. Please do not get me wrong, I appreciate your great work, and I'm absolutely with Cacko, its just the new features are not in my user scope, and I'm not in for more surprises like that with advancedfm right now.

Linux Issues / sftp problem with Mandrake

Hi, I have the same problem under windows.. I don't know why.. so i rename *.part file in *.ipk and it works

I didn't check to see if the entire file got transferred. So renaming the file is all that is required?
It sounds like sftp is buggy in KDE/Mandrake.

Thanks for the tip.

I've made the same expierence with fish,  but with KBearSiteManager I'm able to build up a sftp-connection and actually use it (KDE 3.1.4, KBear 2.1). I've tested it with copying (drag & drop!   ) an ogg-file (3.2 MB) from my PC-partition to the zaurus, deleting it on the PC and copying it backwards from the Zaurus, and finally deleting it on the Zaurus, all with KBearSite, so it seems ok and one can look forward to copy larger data chunks as well, like whole directory trees, etc. But beware of symlinks, I found that scp has problems with Symlinks, maybe sftp faces similar problems. Also, I can not say right now if KBearSite leaves some management data of its own on the Zaurus, I hope not but who knows.. in the long run it could result in memory loss if such thing would happen. But that risk I'm willing to take if I'm spared of typing the same commands again and again therefore.

Vocabulary Trainer is running on Jeode and it is put under the GPL.

Get it from here:
http://people.freenet.de/Schleck/java/voct...in_1_01_arm.ipk

You can first look at it:
http://people.freenet.de/Schleck/java/voctrain/

Source is available, too. Check the download section to get it all, of cause its not found in the i-package.

The program is pre-configured for use on a VGA-display, but it features a configuration file where you can try to tweak it for other displays. If you have the parameters for the Z5x0, please submit them to me, so I can add it to the configuration file. Contact mail is found at the website.

Jeode is great! I've started this program with Kopi, and it was fun to get back to Java this way.
