Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz3.5.3 (collie) On/off Button Problem
« on: June 10, 2005, 04:46:52 am »
Isn't a 5500 a 5550? They didn't put any different software in did they if not then theres probably something running that's causing the problem. Perhaps it's something to do with my wireless card or some taskbar apps I have open? I'll have to mess about with my Z disabling/enabling various things, I'll let you know if I come across anything interesting.

Well that confirms what I assumed then lol

I only became suspicious after I did this and it failed to work, it brought up a few error messages about bluetooth and a few other errrors before dropping to a command line. Perhaps I should just try and do it again, perhaps some files failed to copy correctly.

What other steps would be involed in converting a rom to an ext2 image? All I did was to make an ex2 image, mount the rom and copy it's contents into the ext2 image but it didn't work.

What's the difference between a rom and an image anyway in terms of file contents. I assumed that both would have the same content in just stored in a different way because of the different filesystems.

No problem, thanks for uploading the GPE image. I just it but it didn't get very far, it came up with a warning message about me using the wrong kernel .

How exactly does one make these images?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Is 3.5.3 Less Stable Than 3.5.2

As I said my Z's RAM is never full. It's best to find out if you need swap otherwise there's no point in having one.

As for the who sus/res issue I think you'll want to put that line back. I too removed that line but it has a string of side effects. The best thing to do is thus, sus your Z with menu sus button.

I second that samac. At first it seems removing that line makes everything better but as time goes on you see how much stuff is failing to work.

Is there no way to remap what the buttons do?

Hey thanks for the link CoreDump  Do you know if these images are unmodified 3.5.3 images? I notcied the file says RC4?

EDIT: I tried the image but it just booted up Opie, I was quite surprised to see only one image in the tar archive. Is this correct?

There's a really nice memory monitoring applet for the Opie's taskbar. I ony have 48MB of RAM on my Z but according to this app my memory is never more than three quarters full so I have naver bothered with a swap file or parrtition. The app also has a nice way of making a swapfile on an SD card

I dont see why you would need to install any GPE things to get GPE to run from a seperate image.

The OZ website does not have a how two about this, it has a howto that tells you how to run both at the same time from the same place, as I have stated before this is not what I want to do.

Perhaps I am not explaining it well enough. All I want is two image files, one Opie one GPE which I can choose between at startup. Since there doesn't seem to be a way of getting this GPE image I need I shall just have to flah my Zaurus to build it. I really wish someone knew how to turn one of initrd.bin files into working images as this would also save me reflashing for upgrades.

Same here, what I could do with is a large red reset button on my Z save having to rip the back off everyday.

I can honestly say I am yet to see a day of using the Zaurus without a reset, that said it doesn't stop it from being my favorite ROM

I tried what you suggested just incase, adding feeds GPE and X11 and installing the files to my Zaurus's internal copy of Opie. I'm getting precisely the same errors as before .

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Odd Charging Problem
« on: June 03, 2005, 07:42:48 am »
This is odd becuase _sometimes_ it does appear to charge from the sync cable alone.

Is this a Zaurus issue or an OZ issue?

Thanks for your reply.

Wouldn't that just install GPE ontop of OPIE? That's not what I want to do, I'd like two images, one of Opie and one of GPE.

Or is it the case that I need to do this anyway? I'm not quite sure how these images work, if it's the case that I need to do this then the images don't contain the entire install and the intregrated install still plays a part. Obviously it runs my rboot init script to select my image but apart from that I didn't think it did much else.

I tried to install GPE without flashing.

My Zaurus works of a looped filesystem image on an SD card. Currently I only have Opie on there but I wanted to give GPE a try too (Gnome is my favorite when it comes to desktops).

I mounted the GPE initrd.bin and copied the files into a 150MB ext2 image which I then put on my Zaurus and tried to boot.

No joy however, I get quite a few error messages so I'm guessing the image is more than just an image and must do something as well?

I would like to know if it's possible to install GPE this way? It's certainly a lot less hastle then messing about with flashing if it is.

Many Thanks,
Chris

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Odd Charging Problem
« on: June 02, 2005, 03:59:16 am »
Here's something odd I noticed. I have a sync and charge cable and a normal USB to PDA power cable.

I can't change my device with either unless I plug both in at the same time, both into seperate power slots. When I have only one cable in the charge light flashes on and off however if I put the Zaurus into suspend mode again with only one cable in the charge light stays on suggesting it is charging though I have not been able to determine if this is correct. The Zaurus charges fine with it's own power supply.

What reason could there be for this happening and is there any possible fixes?

Many Thanks,
Chris
