Fudge, I hope the moderators of this forum can delete this post; my browser took a space in the wrong way, and made the post go up before I was actually done writing it.

My C860 was suffering battery charger problems (cf my April 2005 post at https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11630).  In May, I sent it to a friend in Japan to have it sent in for service.  But after the friend wasn't able to get in touch with us for a while, we've learned I never gave him an address to send it to inside Japan to have it fixed.

It's now become clear that I have no idea where that might be.  Any suggestions?

I've found this on the Sharp site
SHARP CORPORATION, Customer Assistance Center [Japan]
For the location of the nearest Sharp Service Station, please call:
     Tel:     81-6-6621-4649
      Fax:    81-6-6792-5993
but I don't think it'd be great for me to suggest he call instead of giving him some concrete information.  His address is in Saitama-ken, if that's clear enough to know what address would be closest.  I'm not trying to imply anybody should call for me---just curious if you've already got a usable/correct address to receive my poor sick C860.

Thanks,
B

Cxx0 Hardware / C860 With Battery And Other Mood Problems
« on: March 30, 2005, 02:33:24 am »
My C860 has been working just fine for a few months.  One night I left it on and plugged in to charge the battery.  In the morning, I discovered its screen was dark, and found I'd not in fact plugged the cable all the way into the back of the Zaurus.

And the C860 wouldn't turn on.  I'd plug it in and the orange LED would be on for a few minutes then it'd start to flash.  Hmm.  This has an EA-BL08 battery.

I got the EA-BL06 battery out of my SL-5500 after having the 5500 charge it for a few minutes.  (In retrospect I never saw the 5500 claim that the battery actually had a charge in it.)  I put the battery in the C860 and turned it on---and up it came!  I plugged the power in, and the orange LED came on and the little task-bar battery image started scrolling green.

I left it for a few hours, and came back and unplugged the power.  "Change the battery!" shouted the dialog window, and the battery on the task bar suddenly had a single pixel's width of red for its power.  This has remained true of the EA-BL06 battery no matter how long I leave it plugged in to charge.

I've done a few iterations of alternating the batteries, but no success.  I tried the approach of taking out the battery, pushing the battery lock switch so it's off, and holding down Fn+D+M while inserting the AC power again.  Up came the diag & maintenance screen I've heard about.  But I'm unable to move on that screen or select anything.

I've seen mention of the charging circuit being problematic, at least in the C760.  Is this still true of the C860?

I am starting to remember how I'd listen to some podcasts in the morning, pause it and hit the power button, then a few hours later I'd turn it on and see the battery had fallen way down.  At first I thought it was because I left my headphones plugged into it, or that it had been paused and not actually stopped.  But I now realize it may have been more that the battery was holding less and less of a charge.  Until it's now lost all of it, and can't be recharged by the Zaurus.

Would getting an external battery charger like the CE-BC22 really make a difference?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
B
