User Request for Applications / Rss Aggregator/reader

There is this feature I would like in QuackNews. It is a bit complicated so i'll try and explain.

What I would like is a bit of light scripting support (maybe javascript or ecma) within quacknews so that rss links could be changed to something more pda friendly.
Most websites have a printer friendly page.

I know it is asking too much but it would be a great functionality for a pda based rss reader.

I suspect that each site has diffrent setup which would be best for PDA's so it would be dificult to get the "best" page from each site...

For example:

Software / xmms deps
« on: April 05, 2005, 06:01:29 am »
Update:
It plays ogg files but not MP3's.

When run from a shell I get a message saying "nobody recognised File.mp3"

Am I missing a plugin?  I've seen mention of problems with Lame encoded files but I dont think these were.

Anyone had the same/fixed it?

Probably in a directory which appears in LD_LIBRARY_PATH - I'd say /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib

Surely the lib wasn't installed to /opt/QtPalmtop/lib by the ipk?

Thaks for the pointers.

LD_LIBRARY_PATH is /home/QtPalmtop/lib    and    /usr/lib is linked to /home/root/usr/lib

which I guess is why the IPK installed them where it did.

 I've linked /home/QtPalmtop/lib/xmms dnd libxmms to /usr/lib

ln -s /home/QtPalmtop/lib/xmms /usr/lib
ln -s /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libxmms* /usr/lib

and that looks to have sorted the "not foud " issue.

I get  Glib-Error could not allocate 529335168 bytes. so I guess I'll go try and track that down now..

Update:
I had no config file in ~root/.xmms.
Fixed that. Now all I need to do is get it to play sometnig

actually none of the java apps that I have (except for the sharp applets) show an icon in the taskbar. They disappear whenever I put any other program in the foreground. The shift+menu (like alt-tab in windows) view shows the java app but when i select it the zaurus changes the display to magnified (320x240) mode but still doesnt show the app properly. I can quit the app however by pressing the cancel button.

I think Mongoosefred has a fix for Quacknews (well it worked on mine) and it may work on other Java apps as well.
Look out for an update..

Nevermind....I've found it.  From another post the files are in the /opt/Qtopia/lib/.xmms folder.  Copy those over to the /home/<whatever>/.xmms folder.  Now it runs!

Hmm,

I am getting libxmms not found errors
I've not got a /homr/root/.xmms dir,
I have got /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libxmms.so

where ic xmms lokking fore these files?

Sharp ROMs / Installing Ipk's
« on: March 31, 2005, 06:01:58 am »
FYI

I've had a few ipks not install with the realy helpfull message of "ipk says some thing went wrong". (AKA Computer says no)

From command line (su  ipkg install PACKAGE.ipk) I get "Qt/Embedded data directory not owned by user 0"

find / -name Qt/Embedded (and variants) gives nothing.

eventualy I found  this:

Quote
The "Qt/Embedded" files are in /temp, named qtembedded-USERNAME, thus qtembedded-root and qtembedded-zaurus. Make sure qtembedded root is owned by root and group qpe, make sure qtembedded-zaurus is owned by zaurus:
# su root
# chown root:qpe /tmp/qtembedded-root
# chown zaurus:qpe /tmp/qtembedded-zaurus
www.oesf.org/index.php?act=findpost&pid=19647

Ok this didn't quite work but
# chown root /tmp/qtembedded-zaurus -R
has fixed it so I can install.

I needed to pust it back to run apps:
# chown zaurus /tmp/qtembedded-zaurus -R

but at least I can deal with it now.

Just thought I'd share that...

I gave QuackNews a whirl. It's new and it shows. It's as rough-looking as ZauRSS and it gave me quite a bit of hassle (resolution, .conf file error etc) on the SL-6000.

Did you let the Guy know you had a problem?

I dont think he has access to a 6000 to test it so I'm sure he'd appriciate the feedback.

My Cacko rom doesnt create an Icon for QuackNews,
I've spoken to  Mongoosefred and he's looking in to it.
