Software / C860 & Gimp

I'm not a photography pro, and I love the gimp, but I definitely wouldn't want to be using it on my 860 for a period of time.  I haven't used the overclock applet but from what I've read on the forums it doesn't help all that much anyway.  It takes me at least 23 seconds to load the gimp (didn't even load an image either) with no other applications running.

Sounds like you're going to get what you pay for in this case.  You can drop a few hundred bucks on a Z and use the gimp, or you can drop a grand on a laptop which will actually get the job done.  If you're thinking laptops, I'd recommend the Averatec thin and light series of laptops.  For under a grand you can get a 12" LCD and a beefy processor and enough memory and hard drive space to do serious photography work in the field.

Software / C860 & Gimp

Hello Guys

I'm John, a total newbie to the Z world. I'm a keen photographer I'm trying to ascertain if the C860 will sucessfully run any image manipulation software packages like the Gimp on quite large jpg files.

I use an Epson P2000 40gb storage & viewer for shoot downloading and would like to use the C860 aside this for occassional image manipulation in the field.

A SHQ image direct from my digital DSLR is around 3.6mb. I will only be doing things like adjusting brightness/contrast and maybe unsharp mask and only on one or two images from a shoot.

I think I'm expecting too much from such a small processor; no doubt your collective knowledge will put me right.
