5x00 General discussions / 3.5.4 Wcf12 Issues

I Just recently upgrade to OZ, Opie 3.5.4 on my 5500.   The problem I'm having is with my wcf12 CF wireless nic.  The nic worked fine under 3.5.3.  Now under 3.5.4 it won't detect any nearbye access points to connect to.

Unfortunately, I need either 3.5.4 for the WPA-EAP implementation or I need WPA-EAP for 3.5.3 which I have been unable to find.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why the nic stopped working or have links to WPA-EAP under OZ 3.5.3?

out of interest: EAP/TTLS?

WPA has two version, PSK, and EAP.

PSK is a pre-agreed upon passkey for getting on the encrypted network.  EAP involves a secure tunnel, random keys and handshake is the way it was explained to me.  With EAP you do not need the passkey for the encryption, you only need a username and ID, such as corporate User ID and password to get on the corporate wireless.

*edit*

It DOES connect to access points, however, for some reason it no longer sees the access point of the network I'm trying to connect to with WPA-EAP.  I'm going to pick their tech support brains unless anyone has suggestions.

Software / Installing .ipk's On Collie Using Oz 3.5.3
« on: April 17, 2005, 11:28:06 pm »
I followed the directions from one of hte links in this post.

ipkg -d sd install foo.ipk

Once the install was done, configured with no errors if i try to run the program I installed I get a file not found error.  Is there something else I need to do to install packages?  I've never had any luck installing packages.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Moving /opt /home On Oz 3.5.2

Are you sure the SD card is working properly? What file system is it formatted to? It will have to be EXT2 for this to work.

It is working properly, everything is copied over and linked just fine, but i get that error message in the log under system info.  Hell, even opie starts up and runs fine with /opt moved over to the SD card.  That error message worries me though.

All you should have to do to move /opt to the SD is:

1. Kill Opie
2. "cp -a /opt /mnt/card/opt"
3. "rm -rf /opt"
4. "ln -s /mnt/card/opt /opt"
5. Reboot

You didn't say if you are running Opie or not, but I just assumed you are.

Make sure not to make any mistakes with those lines, the 3rd one can destroy your system with ease.

Ok, when I follow those steps exactly I get this error in the boot log in system info under opie on OZ 3.5.3:

<3>sd : cmd [ 12 ] response [ 3f  ]
<3>sd : cmd [ 12 ] response [ 3f  ]
<3>sd : cmd [ 12 ] response [ 3f  ]
<3>sd : cmd [ 12 ] response [ 3f  ]
<3>sd : cmd [ 12 ] response [ 3f  ]
<3>sd : cmd [ 12 ] response [ 3f  ]
<3>sd : cmd [ 12 ] response [ 3f  ]

and it repeats..alot...

I'm not so concered moving /home as I am moving /opt as that is where zgcc takes up the most space(20+ meg or so).

Can't you just install it directly to the card? Is it not an ipk, if not then I'd use some symlink magic from the card.

The version I've got is an ipk and it doesn't seem to run right when I install it to sd card and wave my wand of linking at at it.

You don't need to move /home to the SD card to install zgcc, or at least I can't think of a reason why you'd have to do this.

I'm using the 64-0 zImage so if I install anything it needs to be installed on the SD card.  I'm not so concered moving /home as I am moving /opt as that is where zgcc takes up the most space(20+ meg or so).  I just don't have enough space to install it without moving /opt

I've tried the script posted in one of the older posts used to move the above directories so that I can install zgcc on my zaurus.  When I do it, no installed files will work from the system and I get alot of unusual messages during boot.  I can get them for me if you want.   Just don't have them atm.

Linux Issues / Mkfs.minix
« on: April 13, 2005, 06:32:30 pm »
When using mkfs.minix, part of busybox default util with opie, I can only get my 128 meg SD card to create a 64 meg drive, does anyone know if this is a limitation of mkfs.minix and should I use something else or is there something I'm missing?

*edit* typoed some numbers....corrected them

Software / Gcc For Z5500 Running Opie

That's an old version of GCC - good for the Sharp ROMs, but not so good for Opie (though it may be possible to get it to run).

The OZ feed has some native gcc packages in it I think (otherwise they are available in OE and could be built), but there were some issues getting it working ok - if you want to help sort that, that would be really great.

I'm mainly new working with the zaurus and with linux in general so everything is pretty much a learning experience.  I can't even get opie to sync up with my pc yet (working that issue).   Where do I find the native gcc and the OZ feed for it?

General Discussion / Issue Booting Collie-resolved
« on: April 12, 2005, 11:07:56 pm »
Just recently had opie installed and running fine on my collie.  Then it all went to hell about in this order.

1.) Terminal app refused to load.
2.) attempted soft reset
3.) term app still sig'd out, wouldn't load.
4.) attempted hard reset
5.) black screen no boot at all
6.) attempted install of factory Ospack Rom
7.) still black screen and no boot.

Any suggestions?

*edit, hehe, nevermind...for some reason it worked this time*
