Sharp ROMs / Samba Conf

The owner of the file is root.
I have enabled root priveleges on the text editor but still no luck.

Tried this command: df -h  /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf
and get:  can't find mount point
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=96439\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Since the file is owned by root, you'll need to switch user mode to root via the "su" command.  Type su on the command-line by itself to switch to the root user account.  Hopefully you have a password set for the root account, otherwise just press enter when/if prompted for the user password.

You may use the command whoami to verify that you are root after switching.  Once you're on as root, you may edit the configuration file.  Once you've edited the file, make sure you switch back to your normal zaurus account as soon as possible by exiting switched user mode (exit).

As for the path ( /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf) that I mentioned earlier, that was just an example path where the samba configuration file may reside.  It could reside elsewhere on your system.  I'm assuming that since you are able to view the file attributes for the configuration file, that you know where the file is located.  Simply substitue that path for the one I used in my "df -h  /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf" example.  You may also use the df as follows to show where the current directory is mounted:

df -h .

...Make sure that there's a space between the -h and the period.  Hope this helps.

So i guess i need a GCC Decompiler?[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Possibly, but unless you know assembly it probably wouldn't be worth the effort.   OTO, I did find a link to the source code to some of Sharp's "ROM"s and posted it in an earlier [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14690&st=0&p=93873&#entry93873]thread[/url].  For instance, the source code for the SL-C3000 Sharp ROM may be obtained via the following link.

I've downloaded the archive, but haven't played with it enough to tell you the names of the files that would interest you.  Anyway it's probably worth a look - even though it's 29Mb bzip2 compressed and 170Mb as a tarball.

Edit: Sorry, I just realized that you have an SL-C1000.  You'd be interested in this file. Enjoy!

When I check the file properties it is ticked as read and write next to owner:
group: is ticked as read and other: is ticked as read.

Not sure how to check the mount list?[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=96360\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Is the owner of the configuration file "root", or "zaurus"?  If the file is owned by root then you'll need to su to root in order to modify the file. You can use the df command to find where a directory/file is mounted:

df -h  /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf

The above command will display a columnized display with the right-hand column showing where the file/directory is mounted.

You can use "mount -l" (lowercase L) to display the mounting information.  If the partition contains "ro"  in the mount permissions (extreme right-hand entry of each line), then the partition has been mounted as read-only and cannot be edited unless remounted as read/write.  I wouldn't recommend doing this however, until you become more familiar with mount points. Additionally, mount points may also be found within the /etc/mtab and /etc/fstab.  Hope this helps...

\opt\QtPalmtop\plugins\inputmethods\

the files are not bmp or png or jpeg.  In fact, i have no clue as to where to change the look.  the image itself can be embedded in the file itself or...........put somewere else which i tried looking already.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=96217\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
There are two types of files within the directory specified above on my Cacko 1.23b1 build.  The *.cf files are simple text configuration files, and *.so* are gcc compiled library files containing various resources/instructions/icons for the specified modes.

I'm not familiar with the c860 nor cacko lite, but I'd first recommend checking the file attributes to see if it's read-only, only editable by root, "disk" is not full, etc.  I'd also check your mount points to ensure that the location where the file resides is not mounted as a read-only partition.  Hope this helps.

... I suspect that when you exit the Add/Remove Software applet, there's some sort of refresh done on the launcher ... www.oesf.org/index.php?act=findpost&pid=93870
There's definitely a refresh of the QT shell upon exit of the package installer. After thinking a little more about the refresh issue, I'm not so sure that it's related to Cacko.

I suspect that there's some call to Qcop based on the exit code of the package installer.  There may be a way to trap that call, and maintain focus on the Files tab afterwards - just need to increase my understanding of the environment/shell. Anyway I think that is now an off-topic discussion, so I'm not going to press the matter further.

I plugged in a USB mini B cable to transfer files to my laptop and boom, it turned off and I could smell something burnt. The usb port smells awfully burnt and the Z is completely dead. No lights, nothing.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=95392\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Sorry to hear the bad news.  But it sounds like there had to be some kind of defect either on the Zaurus or the laptop's USB port.   If it was a bad/failed circuit on the Zaurus that was the issue, you should be able to get it repaired/replaced.  Anyway, I wish you the best of luck.  Keep us updated.

Unfortuantely I'm broke right now, but I may be able to scrape together $5 for the fund.

General Discussion / How To Create Backquote (`) On Sl-c3000/cacko?

Regarding the third symbol on the keys right to space (backquote and degree): Couldn't it be made functional using on eof the Japanese modifier keys right of Ctrl?[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=94967\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Perhaps, but I purchased a Zaurus with English pre-installed so the Japanese modifier keys were remapped to CTRL and ALT.

General Discussion / How To Create Backquote (`) On Sl-c3000/cacko?
« on: September 07, 2005, 01:54:52 pm »
Try using shift and minus (left of space) together.  The symbol that appears to be a backquote to the right of space isn't functional (at least as far as I know).

The braces aren't marked on the keypad either.  You can use FN+o and FN+p for the left and right braces respectively.  You can also use Shift+Space as an alternate way to get the pipe.

Hope this helps!

Open Embedded / Sharp Sources
« on: August 31, 2005, 05:08:43 am »
I haven't seen a link in the forums to Sharp's source code distribution site, so please forgive me if this is old news... The following links contain the GPL source for various Sharp Zaurus ROMs and applications.  There's not too much available, but it does have some stuff for the new SL-C3100's as well as the older units:

Japanese Format
Translated  to English (by Google)

Enjoy!

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Cacko3k Feedback

Unfortunately my work life has been very busy lately, and I haven't had as much time as I would like to help test the Cacko3Kb environment.  However I have noticed one feature that I'm not very fond of:  When the "Add/Remove Software" utility exits after installing an IPK, it will display the "Files" tab momentarily before switching back to the "PIM" tab.

I've been trying to find a way to keep the focus on the Files tab (preferably on the last ipk installed) but haven't had much luck.  Has anyone else noticed this?

Odd... Have you checked your configuration files?  I posted some of my settings in a previous post.

I'm not trying to offend, but are you using a regular wire-based Cat-5 NIC (eth0), or a wireless NIC (wlan0)?

I ordered my Spitz through Chase & Co, and received my order within about 3 days.  I was actually surprised that I received it that fast from Japan.  I didn't have any issues with them.
