Zaurus - pdaXrom / Bricked My Zaurus [solved]
« on: November 11, 2006, 05:46:44 pm »
Thanks! I got it working.
I was using a sandisk card reader, which was not working.

I tried the card reader on a Brother MFC 210C printer, which took awhile, but it worked on a FAT32 formatted Cosair 1GB card.

I was pretty scared there for awhile

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Bricked My Zaurus [solved]
« on: November 11, 2006, 05:30:47 am »
I have a C-1000, and I was trying to install r121. I did not have u-boot on it, so I used the sharp bootloader to install it, as instructed by here.
I then stuck the pdaxrom files on a FAT16 formatted SD card, which has given me no problems in the past, unplugged/plugged the Zaurus, and tried to boot it up. No lights.

When I hold OK while booting, no responce. C+D while booting with the bootloader files on the card, it does nothing. Is there any hope of resurrecting it? Any ideas on how to fix this mess? I will gladly provide more information if needed, thanks. I am open to trying pretty much anything.

I moded my WCF-12, Then I builded a battery with antenna mount together. With 4 x Sanyo 2500mah Rechargable Battery. The battery life last for a long time. The main problem is the antenna is not really good. I will get a good one later.

How did you modify the WCF-12?
Did you have instructions? I am interested in doing a similar modification, but I don't know where to start.

What wireless card are you using in that picture?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Gnu Gnash - Flash Movie Player

This looks promising!

"This is one of the prime motivators for me to do Gnash. Not just because having a free plug-in would be cool, but to have the standalone player work on my Zaurus, or other small footprint devices."

This part might be a problem, although it is possible to run software OpenGL, from my experience that is slow.

High Quality Output - Gnash uses OpenGL for rendering the graphics.

Anyways, this looks pretty cool, I can't wait for desktop distros to start adopting this.

Anyone got one for sale?  I want to buy an 802.11g CF card.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=115367\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
IIRC no 802.11g cards work with the Zaurus yet. Only cards with Prisim chipsets, which means 802.11b. Don't worry though, Zaurii would not know what to do with 54mbs of bandwidth, they can't really fill 11mbs.

Could Wine be installed onto pdaXrom?

[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Nope, I don't think so. The short answer is that  wine is x86 only.

The longer, more correct answer can be found in [a href=\"http://www.winehq.com/site/myths#only_x86]Wine's FAQ[/url].

It says that yes, some applications might work with WineLib (which is a little less platform dependant), which would require source code, which is not available with Mircosoft Office. To get everything, you will have to change all of the source code, Wine's source code assumes you are running an x86 processor, but with LOTS of changes, you could get it working. (Anyone feel like looking through 9 megabytes of source code? I sure don't!).

The other problem is that you are trying to run a x86 program on a ARM processor. This would require another emulation layer, which is not yet programmed. Somebody tried once, but the project lost momentum.

Anyways, read the article for a more complete explanation.

Does anyone know how to use a USB gamepad with the SNES emulator?

I got my Saitek P880 working under Cacko 1.23 running on a C1000, and I would like to use it with the SNES and NES emulator, but I can't figure out how to.

So uh.. where do I start?

Wow.. does it really run at 60fps?
Anyways, I have a few questions about this...

1) Will it support Cacko, OpenZaurus and pdaXrom?
2) Is this 60fps with or without sound?

Thanks, this looks like it will be great!

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Winzip On Zaurus?
« on: September 24, 2005, 10:15:46 pm »
I would look for unzip, its a command line dezipper that is pretty easy to use.
All you have to do is type "unzip file.zip".

What ROM are you running? pdaXrom has it in their feed, I am not sure about Cacko, OZ or Stock though.

It would take a lot of work...

Everything would have to be recompiled for ARM9, it would have to have a different Kernel and reformatted to work with 320x240 screens. After all that, you would end up with something similar to pdaXrom, but likely slower.

Its a great Linux distro, I use it often, but it is not practical for the Zaurus.

General Discussion / Portable Linux Gaming/media Device - Gpx2

When did the XGP pop up?
The XGP is being developed by GamePark, (not GamePark Holdings.., who are developing the GPx2)
The company split, one is making a mainstream gaming platform to compete with the DS and PSP. It will not be as hackable and may or may not run Linux. It will however feature 3d acceleration and a larger screen. The XGP is expected to come out in early 2006.

GamePark Holdings is creating the GPx2. The GPx2 is designed to be hackable, it is the sequel to the GP32. It has a smaller screen, will be cheaper and runs Linux. TV out will be an extra module, compared to the XGP which has it built in. In some other news, the pre-release price is about $190, the price was increased because users demanded more RAM (and they got it, it was upgraded from 32mb to 64mb.. if only Sharp would listen). The GPx2 is expected to be release in late October to November. (I will be pre-ordering, it looks great).

In a response to the DRM posts, DRM is needed if people are going to make commercial games for it, otherwise nobody would take the risk of selling them. The GPx2 is otherwise going to be very open, allowing homebrew games (initally SDL based, more later) and possibly third party OSes (It supports booting off of the SD card).

Anyways, I hope this made a shred or two of sense.

Accessories / Case Suggestions
« on: September 16, 2005, 02:40:58 am »
This may sound a bit odd, but I use a sock.
It really makes a great case, it is also fun to get weird looks, as everyone is always wondering what I am pulling out of a sock.
It is form fitting, soft and protects it from scraches really well. It is also really cheap, so I can put the money to buying more electronics
Just be sure to use a new sock, otherwise it might be a bit smelly.

General Discussion / How Do You Clean Your Zaurus?
« on: September 02, 2005, 04:38:14 pm »
I was wondering how everybody cleaned their Zaurus's screens.

I wipe it with a non-lint cloth, but that does not always remove everything, does anybody have any great methods they want to share?
