Thanks for doing it while you could. Sounds like you have plenty of good reason to move on to other endeavors. I haven't done much posting there (or here for a while now), but I do lurk often, albeit briefly, just to keep up with what's happening.

Sharp ROMs / Qtopia 1.6

I looked at them but (honestly) i can only get so much Out of them because I dont speak russian....

Now I did find this: Http://elsix.org/downloads/hybrid/ and sucked down the "Qtopia-applications-1.6.1.tar.gz" file

Have you gotten a stock cacko-5500 to sync with QTopia Desktop?

I don't speak Russian either (hence the ?), but the numbers seemed right (on the links). I had two different Hybrid roms installed previously, but can't remember where I got the files. Can't help you with syncing. I gave up on syncing long ago, before I even tried Cacko or Hybrid. It's much easier for me to use KOPI and just copy the (backup) files.

6000 - Tosa / Slow Boot Problem

Something very strange happened: the touch screen doesn't register taps. However, if I press firmly on the sides of the Z near the screen, it registers the screen as a tap.[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=166005\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Sounds like at least one of the problems, is that something (on the hardware) is not tightened properly.

I keep forgetting that this is an international forum and should have written "does not" instead of "doesn't".
This is a new one to me. Are you implying that non-native English speakers (readers) aren't (are not ) familiar with the apostrophe abbreviations? If so that is something I wasn't (was not) aware of.

Me too. I thought that was only true of androids.

edit: In light of the post above, I should say and translators.

Off Topic forum / Favorite Distro
« on: May 26, 2007, 07:05:24 am »
I voted Mandriva/ Mandrake, but I think they should be seperate. Mandrake has always been the distro I go back to when all else fails and I run 10.1 on my desktop at present. I'll probably try Mandriva at some point, but it seems to be getting too business oriented for my tastes (Mandrake has been gradually going that way for a long time). I don't hold it against them. It beats going under financially, but I will personally miss plain ole Mandrake.

I had problems with a Kingston 256 on my SL5500. I could use it as a fat file system, but it would not format to ext2 properly from the Zaurus or my desktop.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Open:

I get the internal server error also. I had this ROM flashed successfully at one point and it seems like it would be really nice if there were some programs to install, but as it was it was like being all dressed up and no place to go.

I just bought a stylus, but they have decent prices here. I'll bookmark it for future reference though. I don't care what they say, those things have legs!

General Discussion / Bricked Sl-5500?
« on: April 03, 2007, 08:02:56 am »
I'd keep trying. I once thought I bricked mine, due to the power being disconnected at one point in flashing, which I have heard it said will cause a bricking, but I kept trying reflashing and after about four times, it finally reflashed successfully.

C'mon! It's not all that much bigger than some of the "Zaurus Successor," suggestions I've seen lately. I'd rather have something I can drive, than try to drag around a 7 inch (insert acronym here) something or (UMPC) other stuffed in my 4 inch (at best) pocket. Probably has real good battery life also.

And the only suggestion I've seen so far that stands a ghost of a chance.

OpenZaurus 3.5.4.2 RC1 released
August 10th, 2006 by  Marcin Juszkiewicz

Second version of OpenZaurus with 2.6 kernel for:
poodle (sl-5600)
tosa (sl-6000)
collie (sl-5000/5500)

is available from http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/tmp/hrw/3.5.4.2-test/rc1/

Image changes:
collie OPIE image got PIM and Bluetooth apps removed
poodle/tosa OPIE images got Qpdf2, Konqueror, games and few other things removed
poodle GPE image got Sylpheed removed (unusable on such small screen)

Collie does not have working SD/MMC and we do not know when it will have it supported. Chip which control SD/MMC is not documented so to get it working under 2.6 someone would have to do some reverse-engineering work on 2.4 binary driver. Our kernel team work on getting other models fully supported.

It is experimental release to get wider testing of our work and to show all of you what we did during last months. Support for those machines needs some love and hard work, but machines are far more usable then they were under 2.4-crapix kernel.

Release notes are available already in wiki. Feel free to add content.

Test it and report bugs, fixes, ideas:
OE Bugtracker

All feedback goes to openzaurus-devel@lists.sourceforge.net mailing list.

Machine related stuff is provided as preconfigured feed.
