Sharp ROMs / Cdc-acm Drivers (for Mobile Phone)
« on: February 08, 2006, 04:16:02 am »
I have a Moto V220 with a usb connection, I can connect it to my PC and can talk to it after compiling 'USB Modem (CDC ACM) support' to my kernel.

My question is where can I get / how to I compile the same module for my Zaurus (C1000 running cacko) and once I have said module, will I be able to either use my mobiles web connection or at the very least use it to call a dial up isp?

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.23 Is Released
« on: November 02, 2005, 03:44:54 am »
C1000 - First impressions, great work - all the stuff/toys/tweaks I had installed on the sharp rom to make it usable, overclocking works prefectly - FZero on snes9x - full speed

Speaking of snes9x, it requires libsdl which isnt in the feed.

The description for frodo is the feed still says 'froso'

Wifi card works, connection is as intermitant as usual, so no better or worse than the sharp rom.

Haven't tried media files yet.

Installed nano & ncurses (not from feed) and it fails to start :/

Will try media files this evening and post my results

Sharp ROMs / Uninstall Default Sharp Apps?
« on: October 15, 2005, 06:46:36 pm »
Seeing as Cacko for the C1000 seems no closer now than it was when I bought my Zaurus some months back, what is the best way to uninstall some of the default applications from the stock sharp rom? (with a view to freeing as much space as poss)

Or how about a point release that just adds this feature? I dont really want to go through all the hassle of setting up 10.4 just to have to do it all again

What about getting an existing ROM (say one from a compaq ipaq) and running it on the zaurus with a virtual machine?

Qt/Qtopia / Few Pointers Getting Started
« on: July 09, 2005, 03:01:51 pm »
Have done quite a bit of C, but must be at least 10 years ago now (so long I might aswel be starting from scratch, so don't mind if I have to learn C++) and would like some pointers to getting started with development for the Z.

Something that covers setting up the tool chain right through to a "hello world" app would be very useful.

Workstation is Gentoo amd64, target is a stock rom C1000.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Reworking Key Applications For The Small Screen?
« on: June 27, 2005, 06:57:07 am »
Having lived with pdaXrom for a couple of weeks (C1000), I have to say its by far my fav rom, but there are a few usability niggles that really get in the way.

As none of the software is designed with a pda tiny-screen environment in mind, most of it is unsuitable, either in terms of application layout or resource requirements.

I just kept finding that it was slow and fiddly. Now, ignoring the resource requirements issue (unlikely that I will ever be able to download a faster pda), the biggest problem is fiddly.

Not a problem when your sat down, but trying to read email (etc etc) on the move is virtually impossible.

I think a combination of forcing the WM to maximise all applications on start and reworking the layouts of key applications (especially dialogue boxes) so they at least fit on the screen, would have a massive impact on the usability of pdaXrom.

In many cases simple changes are all thats needed, dialogue boxes for example are usually larger than the screen forcing you to alt-mouse and move them around.

How much work would be involved in making (and maintaining) minor interface tweaks to a handfull of key applications? (I am thinking this could be done by members of the community as oppose to the pdaxrom team)

this whole thing raises an issue. Maybe the feeeds should be split into main and varius gui feeds?  having all the kde, or xfce specific stuff in one place
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=84913\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I agree with that, having a selection of feeds would be essential
