The site is in japanese but you can see the files needed in Meanie's, I must say, GREAT site, for those with a C-1k or C-3k (thank you man, for sharing your experiences and work!!   )

To Meanie:

Ditto to JoP's comments -- great job on your site and thanks for sharing your experiences and information -- very helpful.  One thing though -- The only programs I found through Google are the screensaver programs.  I couldn't find any of the others on your list which I picked out -- which are about 25.  Do you know anywhere else I can find them?

Archos forum / Problems Synchronizing Only Contacts
« on: May 16, 2005, 01:02:44 am »
I finally got my system and SLC3000 unit to communicate so that I was successful in synching both my Outlook tasks and calendar.  Oddly though, the unit is not able to communicate using TCP/IP, like it once did - it only communicates now when the setting is at I/O Default.  Anyway, despite the successful sync of my tasks and calendar, it is not synching any of my contacts.  I keep getting a PC link error message and asking me to unplug the cable, wait 30 seconds and replug it.  I still get nothing.  It communicates to sync the contacts, but once it starts writing to the Zaurus, that's when it fails.  I looked at my contacts to see if there are any odd letters or numbers or symbols, and don't see any unless symbols like ( or & or the like are what is causing the failure.  Does anyone know what I might need to do to my Outlook contacts in order to sync them?  I have nearly 600 contacts, and refuse to type them all individually.  Anyone's help is greatly appreciated.\

sure you can change the screensaver. Just install LUSScreenSaver and you can have a marquee of your choice, fishtank or a slideshow or even a starfield simulation. there is a bit more details on my website.

Just curiously, where do I find LUSScreenSaver?  Could you add the link to your response?  Thank you.  Jennifer

Jennifer,
we tested the procedure with WinXP (SP2), Win2000 and
Win 98.
Slight problems with drivers only encounter with Win2000
and they can be solved by changing the TCP/IP mode in
the IntelliSync settings (in this case the "SL-series" driver
will be reinstalled).
Please tell us a bit more about the PC side (what OS,
Firewall, Antivirus...). And i guess it's a good idea to open
a new thread for this.

Hi Marc,
I'm a little confused by your response.  Does it mean I should be using the 860 drivers or staying with the 3000 ones?  Also, I have changed the TCP/IP settings on Intellisync (re the 3000 drivers) and on the unit - and still I get nothing    Any ideas?

Anyone,

Curiously, is there a way of changing out the screensaver found on the 3000?  As far as I can tell, the only one available and active is the one that shows the present date in black which flashes on a white background -- borrrrrring!!!  It would be great if I could find other screensavers to use -- or if someone could guide me to a document or information where I could perhaps learn how to make one from say a photo or pic I have saved in the harddrive.  I'm a complete novice though when it comes to using a Linux device.  Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for your time.

The drivers don't remain in device manager and when the unit actually communicates, which is practically never, I then get a message that states I have an incorrect value and then the whole process shuts down.
Jennifer

Jennifer,
have you followed the instructions : here ?

Hi Marc,
Yes, I was given this information in the beginning -- successfully installed the Japanese drivers from the 3000, and pasted the English version of Intellisync (found in the 5600 software) over the Japanese one.  There was communication at first, but no longer.
You mentioned something about the 3000 drivers not being good, that I should be using the 860 drivers.  Is this what I should actually do and will this solve my problem?  If so, can you guide me to the site where I would get them?  I very frustrated.  Thanks.

Syncing issues:

We recommend using the C860 drivers for the C3000.  We have had reports of the C3000 drivers causing syncing issues.  This unit will work with the English sync software.  Please make sure to select the Mode Setting of PC Link Setting in PC Link.

Where would I get the C860 drivers because I too am having trouble syncing with the SLC3000?  The drivers don't remain in device manager and when the unit actually communicates, which is practically never, I then get a message that states I have an incorrect value and then the whole process shuts down.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Sync Issues With Slc3000
« on: May 13, 2005, 02:37:52 pm »

The first issue is the missing drivers:
I installed the SLC 3000 drivers (the Japanese ones that came with the 3000 CD). Once done, I saw them in two different places in the device manager: "network adapters" and "other devices."  The 3000 communicated with the computer, so I know the drivers were working properly.  Not long afterward, I temporarily stopped using the unit, but just started using it again yesterday.  I set it up the way I always do: set the unit to PC link (have the setting on TCP/IP); and confirmed my host computer has the same settings.  I then plug in the sync cable.  After about a minute, I received a PC llink error message on my 3000 screen because the communication failed.  I was not able to sync.  I re-checked the device manager -- only to find this time that both drivers are missing. How can this be if I didn't physically uninstall them?  Hence, I cannot sync at all!

The second issue is problems syncing due to "incorrect value" message:
I have never had success even in the few times both my 3000 unit and the desktop computer were communicating, because I continuously get an error message that there is an "incorrect value in the syncing - that I need to fix it using the "check" button. The sync process stops at that point.   (The last time this happened, I depressed the "check" button, but nothing happened.  Does anyone out there know what the message "incorrect value" means?  (Could it possibly mean there's a conflict because my Outlook tasks have recurring events and the calendar does not have a recurring event feature -- or is it something else?  Either way, I have never had a successful sync at all, and would anyone's help, as I desperately need to sync my Outlook contacts, notes, tasks and calendar.  I'm very frustrated and perplexed by it all.  Thank you.  Jenn

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Help In My C1000/c3000 Decision!
« on: May 12, 2005, 06:22:48 pm »
Hi Jason,

I am a recent owner of the SLC3000, and a complete novice when it comes to the Linux OS, although very familiar with the windows pocket pc environment.  In particular, I need to be able to synchronize my outlook contacts, calendar, tasks and notes to this unit.  First the PIM program on this unit is really poor.  Second, I have yet to really be able to successfully synchronize.  I either get a message stating there's an incorrect value and the synchronization stops, or, most recently and more often, I seem to get a PC link error when attempting to synchronize -- and when checking in the device manager of the host computer, I no longer see either driver for the unit, even though I know I installed them both -- because I was able to communicate at one time previously in order to synchronize.
You mentioned something about the OZ 3.53 image file.  What is this and does this fix my problem?  Also, I am not able to use my Socket Low Power WLAN CF wireless card because I can't seem to get the unit to recognize the card.  Could you possibly help me with all this?  I'm frustrated by it all -- so much so, that I'm thinking seriously that if I can't get my issues with this unit resolved, then I will either return to using my IPAQ 4705 pocket pc or try to find a way of reformating or repartitioning the SLC3000 and loading the pocket pc operating system in the Sharp unit so I can instead use the PPC environment and sync using active sync.
Thanks.
Jenn

Guylhem Rom / Guylhem Rom: First Qtopia 1.5 Release
« on: May 12, 2005, 04:45:23 pm »
Will this work on the SLC 3000?  If it does, and since I'm a novice when it comes to Linux, will I be able to do this myself without having a clear understanding of the language?  What exactly will this release do, if anything, for my 3000?  Also, if your new release works with the SLC 3000, will it provide a better PIM?  I think the one on this unit sucks, especially when it comes to synchronizing my contacts/calendar/tasks and notes from outlook.  Also, will it be recognized and easily configured by my Socket Low Power WLAN CF card?  It isn't recognized on the unit the way it is at present.  As you can see, I am a complete novice when it comes to this product and its operating system.  Also, could you guide me to where I might find books or such on how to operate the zaurus SLC3000?  As I'm sure you know, all that information came from Japan and hence is written in Japanese, which I can neither read nor understand.  Your help is greatly appreciated on all of this.  Thanks.

Hi Loran
Recently I bought the SLC3000 for two main reasons: the onboard keyboard and the harddrive capacity.  I am finding difficulty in using it though as I am not familiar with the linux OS.  I have used only pocket pcs in the past, and find them to be much more user friendly for me.  That being said, I would like to use my SLC3000 in place of the ppc, but only if I can accomplish the following four things:
1st & foremost, I need a good PIM program and need to be able to successfully synchronize my contacts, calendar, tasks & notes into it. 2nd, I need to be able to access the internet on it.  I have the Socket low power WLAN CF card, but somehow the SLC3000 doesn't recognize it when I insert it in the slot.  Do you know what I could possibly do to resolve this?  3rd, I would like to be able to read and synchronize several newspapers or docs from an internet site -- such as Maningo or AdvantGo. Lastly, I would like to watch some of my video.  You mentioned how you love your unit.  Can you help me achieve that too, by perhaps helping me with my issues or pointing me to the right direction?  I'm really frustrated.  Thank you.      :

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Other Os For Slc 3000
« on: May 12, 2005, 03:26:11 am »
Hi Jacknife:

You mentioned something about tweaking the software from other models to get them to work with the SLC3000.  What do you ususally have to do?

Also, I bought the Socket Low Power WLAN CF card in order to get wireless internet on my SLC3000.  Somehow, I am unable to successfully get this to work.  I plug the card in the unit, but nothing -- not even the little globe icon I should see at the bottom of the unit's screen.  Any ideas on how I can get this to work?

Also, I have a SierraWireless aircard that I have used with my pocket pc in order to get internet anywhere (just like I can from my desktop computer).  I can't get it to work on the SLC3000.  Any ideas here?

to Jacknife:
I appreciate your quick response.  I checked the sites of the two you mentioned in your reponse, but they don't seem to be applicable to the SLC3000 -- only the SL5500.  Curiously, therefore,   if all else fails and I am unable to convert this operating system to a windows environment, can you recommend a better tasks/calendar/contacts program you could recommend for the 3000 -- one that I can successfully sync back and forth between my Outlook and the 3000 unit?

I'm new to the Zaurii as well, but I believe that Linux is the only OS that is currently capable of supporting the C3k's ARM architecture.  (However I could be wrong on this one...)

I've heard of a product called VMware that will supposedly allow you to create a Windows virtual machine on a Linux box, but I don't know if it'll work for the Zaurus. I've also heard of a Pocket PC emulator for the Zaurus called QPose, so that may be what you're looking for.

I know that linux  may seem a little daunting at first, but I would recommend checking out a few FAQs or reading through a tutorial before giving up on the system. Who knows - you may end up preferring linux over Windows!

Anyway, I hope this helps.
