For Sale / Wanted / Free Bricked 5500
« on: February 01, 2008, 02:43:17 am »
Quote from: Blake
I damaged this 5500 by connecting the wrong polarity to it. From what I've come across googling that subject it sounds like it might be made to work again by replacing some component of the charging circuitry. If you have another way of charging the battery it might turn on and work (I have no way to test that). In its current condition the battery does not charge and the device doesn't turn on. Perhaps someone would like it for parts?

Anyway, I have a new c3000 and have no desire to tinker with my old 5500. Therefore I am offering it to anyone who might want to pay the shipping cost from Arizona. I don't have the original Sharp wall charger, or a working battery, or a stylus. The screen looks good though.

Blake

How much for shipping to Oceanside,CA?

Tosa image is non existent.  I've submitted a bug report.

The directory is propably empty because there is no or not enough feedback for the autobuild images of the corresponding platform :

http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...autobuild/tosa/

Oliver

Thank you.  I can't find anything for "autobuild" in the wiki.  Is there another place to read about it?  What's the difference between unstable and autobuild.

Thanks again,

Russell

The autobuild dir contains ~nightly builds from the current OE dev branch. You might be the first person to try them, so they may melt your device, kill your dog, etc, or they could just Work™. The images in Unstable have at least been flashed and booted by a machine mentor, so you'll probably have better luck with those.

For Sale / Wanted / Wanted: Sl-5000,sl-5500 Or Sl-5600, Dead Screen Ok
« on: April 24, 2007, 08:20:29 pm »
I would like to turn an old Zaurus into a home automation server. I am looking for a relatively inexpensive unit, so if you have a Z with a dead screen gathering dust somewhere, let me know how much you would like for it.

Thank you very much,

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz As X10 Controller
« on: January 05, 2007, 11:19:13 am »
I was thinking about uses for 5xxx series Z's and it occured to me that they might make a good master controller for an X10 system. I was wondering if anybody out there has tried something like that and what software was used.

Thanks,

OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / Bitbake For Single File-----openvpn
« on: December 04, 2006, 12:39:27 pm »
Quote
I want to compile the openvpn for my SL5500. I install the OE bitbake for this purpose. When I run bitbake everything is all right.
Code: [Select]
DL_DIR="/stuff/source"
BBFILES:="/stuff/org.openembedded.dev/packages/*/*.bb"

TARGET_OS="Linux"
TARGET_ARCH="arm"
TARGET_FPU="soft"

MACHINE="collie"
#DISTRO= "openzaurus-3.5.4"
DISTRO="openzaurus-unstable"
#DISTRO_VERSION = "3.5.4"

INHERIT = "package_ipk"
IMAGE_FSTYPES= "jfffs2 tar"
BBINCLUDELOGS="yes"

PREFERRED_PROVIDERS="virtual/qte:qte virtual/libqpe:libqpe-opie"
PREFERRED_PROVIDERS+= "virtual/libsdl:libsdl-qpe"
ASSUME_PROVIDED += "virtual/arm-linux-gcc-2.95"
I use DISTRO="openzaurus-unstable" because under /stuff/org.openembedded.dev/conf/dist/ there is only openzaurus-unstable.conf but not the openzaurus-3.5.4.conf.  am I right?

The first time I run
bitbake -b /stuff/org.openembedded.dev/packages/openvpn/openvpn_2.0.2.bb

It generates the ipk under /stuff/build/conf/tmp/deploy. I copy to my Z, but when I use ipkg to install it responds that invalid image. How can I solve this?

so I modidied the local.conf a bit, using DISTRO= "openzaurus-3.5.4" instead of
DISTRO="openzaurus-unstable" and I also find openzaurus-3.5.4.conf from the internet and put it into the path.

but the second time I bitbake openvpn it fails. error message is

Code: [Select]
NOTE: package openvpn-2.0.2-r0: task do_configure: started
NOTE: SITE files /stuff/org.openembedded.dev/site/endian-little /stuff/org.openembedded.dev/site/arm-linux

Thanks a lot, can someone gives me suggestions?

you might want to try using the org.openembedded.oz354x branch instead. I am not sure if openvpn is in there or not.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Sharp I/o Connector On C1000/3x00

Hi all,

just noticed that we forgot to answer one question:

Yes. There's some high-density, high-tech (haha) electronics
hidden in the cable (precisely, in the connector).
We assume, that the power consumption on the 3rd party
cables is a bit too high for the SL-C1x00 / SL-C3x00.
So the CE-170TS is the only one, that works.

5) xmms window does not fit on the screen and xmms will not play mp3s correctly, the sound is garbled.

6) xmms-embedded will not install. ipkg says it can't find the package.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=147305\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

xmms-embedded is an opie app... When I tried gpe a while back the lack of a good GUI media player for QVGA was one of the reasons I didn't get very far. I second CoreDump's assesment that for now, Opie is the better choice for collie and poodle.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=147344\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
But didn't Coredump write that Opie wasn't being maintained anymore? Are we poodle users destined to fade away into obscurity? I can't afford a C-series Z, at least while maintaining my marital status. Why have the Developers forsaken us, why,........................... why!!!!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=147468\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Opie is not completley dead yet either  In its current state it actually works pretty well for what I use it for...with the exception of a good webbrowser. Threre are also some resource limited ipaq people who are still working with opie. So I would say that Opie should be a viable choice for at least 6-8 months.

The next kernel will get the volume control in opie working

A new update is available (use the dist-upgrade command):

- Fix a wrong hutils.conf on all machines but collie after an upgrade
  (SL-Cxx00 users should no longer get cardfs prompts etc)

All Users Please Note:
- Exit GPE or Opie before running dist-upgrade
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=146845\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Also I can't control the volume from xmms-embedded the slider moves but the sound stays at the same level. It does change with alsamixer though.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=147027\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

RP and lrg did create a fix for the volume control. The basic problem was that there was no main volume channel mapped. I did create a hack that works. I am not sure if the changes have been pushed yet or not.

I am having trouble with the Hentges WIP Opie images for poodle. The link above is what shows up after bootup. Ideas?

Does your SD card have more than one partition? I tried the latest opie this weekend and it did not have that problem. I just cleared my ext2 formated card and untarred the image in my cardreader.

Also, I figured out that you can put the new kernel on the sd card as well. That way I was able to use kexec to test the root-on-sd setup without having to mess with my flash install.

Hello all,

I am having an issue flashing to the latest.

I have a Poodle PXA-250.

When I flash with the new kernel and put an opie-image-rootfs.bin in /media/card/boot-images/, it tells me that it flashes the kernel and that it cannot find a rootfs, "please reset".

When I reset it, it get a kernel panic - not syncing: No init found.

What have I done wrong?

Thanks,
Chuck

is your SD card formated as ext2?

Well, what can I say. This bug in Opie is driving me [span style=\'font-size:21pt;line-height:100%\']NUTS[/span].
CoreDump

The simple hack I used was to include a copy of '.opiestorage.cf' in your hentges-xxx.rootfs.tar.gz

Your dist-upgrade works very well for me.

Thanks

Greg

Heh good one
That however fails as soon as the user has a second partition on that card (which will be mounted as /media/card and OF COURSE trigger this blasted bug)

The worst part is that Hentges already had a work-around for this idiocy in place, which somehow stopped working about a year ago *sigh*
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=145766\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Can you set up opie to not build medium-mount? As far as I can see it's used with the Doc Tab, which itself is not all that usefull....

Software / Updating Qpegps - New Gpsd And More

But the inclusion of two interfaces on qpegps will increase its size
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=145016\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Well, not by enough to bother about since it will be a pretty small amount of glue code. The major part is the bit copying data from gpsd structures to the qpegps store.

Do any of the other apps which use gpsd start it themselves? Or do they expect it to be running already? I think we should be following the same arrangement as them regarding starting gpsd.

Starting and stopping and external app seems more risky/complex that an internal interface which can talk direct to the device.

Anyway, the main thing is to have qpegps working with the latest gpsd with other new features.
And it sounds like it will be before too long.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=145018\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I believe the other apps count on gpsd already being started. The latest versions of gpsd in OZ at least come with startup/shutdown scripts in /etc/init.d .

Any idea when you might be able to get a version into CVS ?
