Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Customizing The Terminal

In case anyone is interested, there is a "thickness" option for rxvt that controls the width of the scrollbar. I've found that setting it to 20 produces something that I can actually get hold of with the stylus!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=129402\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

when you've perfected it, could you post your config file as it sounds like you've sorted out all the things that have annoyed me!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=129426\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Not perfected, but this is my .Xdefaults file at the moment:

Code: [Select]
Rxvt*font: xft:Mono:pixelsize=14
Rxvt*reverseVideo: true
Rxvt*scrollColor: grey
Rxvt*troughColor: grey60
Rxvt*thickness: 20
This increases the font size to something more readable, sets the display to white on black, and changes the colour and size of the scrollbar. Need to restart X after making changes of course.

Why does rxvt launch as a VT100 terminal by default? Was this a deliberate choice? Colour terminal support would be nice.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=129394\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

My mistake - it's only the root terminal that comes up as VT100.

The reason I mentioned it was that when you run kismet from a root terminal it comes up monochrome. But now that I've checked, when you run it from a normal terminal (after su) then it comes up in colour.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Disabling Touchscreen Icons

That's a good idea. I found myself touching them accidantly as well. If there's not a compelling reason to use them in landscape we should probably turn them off.

Glad it's not just me

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Disabling Touchscreen Icons

Now that the touchscreen icons (is that the correct name?) are working in 3.4.1 on my Akita, I've noticed how annoying they are when you are maninpulating scrollbars when in landscape mode .

Is there any easy way to turn them on and off? Maybe they could be switched on in portrait mode and off again in landscape mode (you can use the keyboard instead).

Or am I just clumsy?

I see you've uploaded the Alpha2 image & feed. Is it ready for testing? I did try the GPE Alpha2 version briefly on my 3100, however once I entered my user info and was presented with the login screen, I couldn't login. Every time I entered my password it would try and start GPE, but then end back at the login. I even tried logging in as root with same result.

I'm having the same problem.
It starts loading matchbox and then before the panel loads it goes back to the login.
This happens for root and the regular user. Perhaps that's why this release wasn't announced in the forum.

Same here too - I've been running alpha1 with no problems, but after an "ipkg upgrade" it now keeps bouncing me back to the login screen.

Tried wiping and recreating the home directory - no change.

the power regulator that provides +5V  to OTG connector is limited artificially to ~200mA. That could be changed by simply replacing the resistor. I'm currently using it to provide ~600mA (1K resistor) to my internal wifi usb module and internal serial bt module, and it has no problem to power up them both at the same time. So, it's sure doable.

That sounds interesting!

So piggybacking a 2k2 resistor should up the current limit to around 500mA? If so then that should be enough to spin up a 1.8" USB drive without external power. I'm pretty sure the running current requirement is pretty low (around 200mA), but it needs a bit of a bump to get it going.

Wonder why they limited it to 200mA though?

Install went OK, and everything boots fine, but I can't get my WiFi (Zonet ZCF1100) card working. It seems that the hermes/orinoco kernel module is now missing. Is this in a separate package now, or is it just missing?

Oops - my bad.

I remember now that the driver modules were missing before too - it seems to work by some other magic

Problem was a type in my SSID  sorry!

Nice to see the USB net drivers working smoothly by the way.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 3100 Beta Testers Needed!
« on: September 12, 2005, 01:24:28 pm »
Just upgraded my C1000 from 10.4 to 11

Install went OK, and everything boots fine, but I can't get my WiFi (Zonet ZCF1100) card working. It seems that the hermes/orinoco kernel module is now missing. Is this in a separate package now, or is it just missing?

Also although I can get my Bluetooth card working, when I try to eject it using the card control applet, the Zaurus locks up and needs a hard reset. This also occurs with a "cardctl eject".

Incidently, I have never been able to get the PPP GUI to do bluetooth browsing (it seems to time out too early), so I always have to set the config files up manually. Is it just me or does this happen to others too?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / How Does Your Pdair Case Fit?
« on: July 29, 2005, 04:51:41 am »
Yes, it is a bit tight. I threw the insert away because it just got in the way.

My CF cards (BT and wlan) are kept in the main pocket - the only thing that would fit in the card-holder pockets was a credit card!. Now after a few weeks wear it closes quite nicely.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rc10 Out For Testing..
« on: July 19, 2005, 08:23:19 am »

Hi, I just installed RC10 Akita on my C1000 and I have come to this several bugs:

- I don't know why but each time the zaurus suspend the clock settings I have goes wrong when I return from suspend mode,

This is a problem related to the hardware clock not getting synchronised with the system clock during a suspend (or in fact ever) and also affects OpenZaurus (which I've just switched back from again ).

My solution was simply to set the hardware clock to the correct time with:

  # hwclock --systohc

however if you are using an ntp source then this needs to be done before every suspend to keep the clock accurate.

- I don't know if it's normal but I can't go into portrait mode

I had this problem initially, but then it went away - not sure what I did.

- I didn't manage to make my usblan to work I've got one with the Rtl8150 chip, the device lights are on which I suppose is a good thing but I can't ping to my router.
I've entered all the good settings in usb and in lan & wifi in system tools

I couldn't get the USB to operate in anything apart from host mode when I last used pdaXrom, which was one of the reasons I gave OpenZaurus another go.

If someone has a fix for this I'd like to hear it!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Openzaurus 3.5.3

Hello,

after the flash update with following files (of course all renamed according to instructions):

opie-image-akita-20050427214434.rootfs.img
zImage-akita-20050427214434.bin
updater.sh

Opie wouldn't start because of  problems with reading the libraries:

>>/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/qpe: error while loading shared libraries: libts-0.0.so.0:cannot open shared object file. No such file or directory.<<

I recently installed 3.5.3 on my c1k and initially had problems with libraries not being found on boot. Turned out that the initrd was incomplete - the download had terminated early.

When I tried to download another copy it took me three attempts to get the whole file intact, so check the filesizes to be sure.

Once I got the entire file it booted straight in without a problem.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / C1000, Annoying Rotation Problem
« on: June 24, 2005, 06:12:35 pm »
Quote
I have OZ 3.5.3 flashed on my C1000.  I'm very happy with it overall (much better than Sharp's ROM).  I just have one nagging issue (which I suspect I caused):
Somehow I've managed to end up with the screen rotation 90° off from the screen rotation.  For example: When I hit 'right' apps in Opie act like I hit 'up.'  When I hit 'up' they act like I hit 'left.'  Everything works correctly in a terminal (not a terminal window, but VT 1).  So if someone can tell me how Opie keeps track of screen rotation in relation to keyboard orientation I would be eternally greatful.  I don't need a step-by-step explanation.  I'm perfectly happy to RTFM...I just couldn't find the FM in this case.

If you are referring to the cursor pad being out by 90deg when the screen is in landscape, this is fixed by the latest version of the qt/e libs from the OZ feed (libqte2).

You might also want to update the kernel to the latest snapshot. This fixes the problems with certain keys (particularly the function key) not working. You'll get a warning when booting up, but it seems to work fine.

Both are located at:
