New products and alternatives / New Zaurus Successor?
« on: May 06, 2007, 02:16:12 am »
Not according to http://www.compactflash.org/faqs/faq.htm
They say that the only difference between type I and type II is dimensions while electrically they are the same.
Anyway gotta wait for my trip now and hope I will find the device in Sim Lin square stores

Thanks for all the replies guys!
I don't think my card is type II
I have read the CF specs and apparently the only difference between TYPE I and TYPE II is width and all other dimensions are the same.
My wifi card seems to be the same width as all my regular memory cards so I guess it should fit in just fine.
So Da_Blitz it worked for you under linux too?

Has anyone tried using external CF wifi cards that they use with their Zauri?
I am asking because apparently the built-in usb wifi is not working well under Linux and as I found out it is most likely not supported in wifi wardriving software like NetStumbler or AiroPeek/AirMagnet.
I am considering purchasing the touch screen model on my trip to Singapore in the end of the month , but having wardriving capabilities is important to me and if internal card is not supported then at least being able to do it with my Ambicom card that serves me so well with my Z.

Software / Mail Not Working Properly
« on: March 10, 2007, 06:34:54 pm »
I can only get mails in QtMail (on send gets stuck on connection established and just sits there.
On the other hand in Ompi send works just fine , but I can't check incoming mails.
It seems never to check the inbox.
My pop3 and smtp are using regular auth and use my email address as username.
It would be great if I could use only one mail app for all my needs as it seems a little redundant to use two just to have email working

Thanks for the tip adf.
I downloaded the sources of the the version 1.2.10.
The error message that is shown when trying to move a slider for example is a problem with malloc.
It says it tried to allocate -103 bytes which is a problem.
Does anybody know if the sources are the same?
If there are special sources for the Z version where can I got those or what is different?
I will try to figure out how to setup a cross compiler on my linux machine and will try to add some debug prints to all the mallocs that are located in the eq*.c files.
I guess maybe somewhere some sizeof is not working right and returns the wrong number for the malloc.
Maybe someone would want to join?
I am not that good C programmer
My only experience until now was programming for my Bsc degree for operating systems course which took place a few years ago.
I also wonder about the g types like gfloat if those are supported right on the Z.
In general I understand those should be just typedefs from regular C types but still.

Really pity if you ask me.
I think it would add a great value to Z if it had at least some music player with eq.
Is there any possible way I could get the source codes for the xmms for the Z?
Maybe I would figure out something by looking at the code.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Bought Sl-c3000 With No Install Cds
« on: August 29, 2006, 05:33:32 pm »
There is no need in install cd drivers to make the device work.
Is the unit in english?
If it is simply go to settings then to pc link and change the mode to storage.
Then you simply plug it in any usb port and your computer should recognize that as usb drive.
If the hard drive is selected in pc link it might take a while and you could get a few error messages on the way.
Don't worry just click ok on the error message ,unplug and plug back the device and that should work.

The console came back fine and everything works great now.

Was playing with my Z on my way home from work and by accident pressed the zoom Fn+1 Fn+2 a few times.
When it got bigger tried to make back smaller but instead it crashed!
Now it keeps crashing or hanging on pretty much everything (zoom/going through menus, trying to get another session etc).
Another weird thing I noticed later on that somehow pressing on Zoom tried to toggle Pc Link somehow so I went to Application keys made those to do nothing.
Is it connected somehow?
Tried to uninstall/reinstall to no avail too.
Is there anyway to restore qkonsole setttings to default?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Interesting Problem With Ambicom Wl1100c
« on: July 16, 2006, 01:39:35 am »
A few weeks ago my wifi card got a little shaky.
Sometimes it would just loose connection (either led goes off or stays on but connection is dead).
In dmesg a lot of messages with code -110 or -61.
I recently replaced the router to a new WRT54GL one flashed with dd-wrt.
Yesterday I saw a new problem with it.
Sometimes after I plug it in and start browsing my screen washes out !
When card is unplugged the screen goes back to normal.
Card is so shaky even when it works doesn't hold more then a few minutes connected.
Is it card problem?Maybe Zaurus power supply or compact flash problem?

I tried just putting in some regular cf cards 1 and 4 gig and everything seems to work fine with them.

This is very phone-model-and-carrier-specific, as phone features are intentionally disabled by many carriers. I found www.howardforums.com the best place to get information on my phone's capabilities, necessary phone setup, carrier policies, and so forth. Once you've determined what the phone can do and configured it, the how-to's and people on this forum will be helpful for configuring the Zaurus to access it.

Well I can enable GPRS any minute and I have already tested the phone as usb modem for dialup and it works.
The question is how to make it get recognized in Zaurus as modem and have PPP connection using it.

Finally got my usb host cable which took a while to get
Now when i connect my RAZR V3 phone it is recognized as generic USB modem (in dmesg).
The phone starts to charge itself using the Z internal battery.
The question is could I use it somehow for dialup access to the internet?
Maybe even with gprs?
I tried checking the network setup and sure enough only CF cards are recognized there.
