Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Device_table Queries
« on: July 12, 2005, 12:33:17 pm »
Hi,
    I want to add some device nodes and directories into /dev.

    I am using open embedded.

    There are 2 device_table files device_table-minimal.txt and device-table
      one in files/ and other in initscripts package

   The file system entries are not matching with any of those 2 files.

     that is only some are there. not all entries are present in my file system.

   I tried modifying the entries in both the device tables files and it did not get reflected into my file system.

 Does anyone know how to do it.

   i want to add some directories into /dev and to add some device entries into /dev

Please Advice.

Ram

Open Embedded / Inetutils And Oe Configurations
« on: July 08, 2005, 06:16:22 am »
Hi,
    I want to configure inetutils package in openembedded.

    The Default gives a few more

     16K     ./rshd
56K     ./ftpd
8.0K    ./uucpd
28K     ./syslogd
44K     ./talkd
44K     ./telnetd
24K     ./inetd
12K     ./rexecd
16K     ./tftpd
16K     ./pt_chown
20K     ./rlogind
288K    .

I am looking only at telnetd and ftpd only.

Where do i enter this configuration info.

inetutils_1.4.2.bb looks like this:

SECTION = "libs"
DEPENDS = "ncurses"
LICENSE = "GPL"
DESCRIPTION = "The GNU inetutils are a collection of common \
networking utilities and servers including ftp, ftpd, rcp, \
rexec, rlogin, rlogind, rsh, rshd, syslog, syslogd, talk, \
talkd, telnet, telnetd, tftp, tftpd, and uucpd."

SRC_URI = "${GNU_MIRROR}/inetutils/inetutils-${PV}.tar.gz \
           file://configure.patch;patch=1"

inherit autotools

EXTRA_OECONF = "--with-ncurses-include-dir=${STAGING_INCDIR}"

do_configure_prepend () {
        rm -f ${S}/glob/configure*
}

I really dont know where to enter the conf info.

A directiory inside /package/inetutils/inetutils-1.4.2  has a patch file in it ?.

So, where do we enter the configure.

i am looking at disable ncurses and somethging like:
./configure --host=i386 --build=arm --target=arm   --disable-rexecd  --disable-rlogind  --disable-rshd     --disable-talkd  --disable-telnetd    --disable-tftpd     --disable-uucpd  --disable-ping   --disable-rcp    --disable-rlogin  --disable-rsh  --disable-talk  --disable-telnet  --disable-tftp   --disable-whois

Since, there is so little documentation regarding configuring (finer things) in open embedded.
It quite tough for users like me.

We need to do something about this. most of documentation is "How to set up oe in ur PC"

But, We need to admire the guys who are behind this. They are my Idols!!!

Any Help is appreciated.

Ram

Open Embedded / Oe Build Fails
« on: July 07, 2005, 01:34:42 am »
Hi,
    History:
             2 Weeks back i built OE Successfully for my target : OMAP 5912

    Then, i changed added  IMAGE_FSTYPE is my machine .conf file to "jffs2" i have restored it to as before now.

     What happened after that, i dont understand when i do bitbake bootstrap-image.

    So, what i did was i removed my TMPDIR and started all over again.

    I get the same problem: i dont understand why it is taking gcc-snapshot-cross.

      If u can figure out whats happening. any help is appreciated.

Regards,
Ram

in my openembedded/conf/machine/omap5912osk.conf
IMAGE_FSTYPES="jffs2"

But, i dont find a jffs2 file system image.

The image i get is .ext2.gz format.

How do i get the jffs2 fimage and where it will be stored .

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Trouble With .bb Files (oe Customisation)
« on: July 03, 2005, 07:07:12 am »
Hi,
Just started with open embedded; made a bootstrap-image, gpe image; its working fine.

So, i just wanted to experiment a little bit; copied the bootstrap-image and task-bootstrap.bb files into
basicx-image.bb and task-basicx.bb.

Just wanted a image that has bootable image with X server, touch screen and matchbox in it.

When i make basicx image;

I get an image but it does not have Xserver and matchbox in it.

Cant figure out where the problem is ?.

Any help is appreciated.

I am attaching both the files for your reference.

Regards,
Ram

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpe - Unpredicatble Behaviour
« on: June 29, 2005, 06:34:21 am »
Hi,

I have an gpe-image with me and have mounted using -o loop option and have taken a tar of mounted
point and have created a jffs2 filesystem using mkjffs2 utility.

I have flashed the kernel from
Kernel --> 0x40000
FileSystem --> 0x240000

Mtd Partions are :

0x00000000-0x00020000 : "bootloader"
0x00020000-0x00040000 : "params"
0x00040000-0x00240000 : "kernel"
0x00240000-0x02000000 : "filesystem"

The Problem is as soon as i have flashed it and the board is swithed on again.when i boot it
i get the 'X' mark on the screen

On the minicom I get the Starting GPE display manager: gpe-dm

and nothing happens.

if i start the gpe-dm again manually. nothing happens.

What i do is when i start the X server again manually.
Then i get a message saying /tmp/.X0-lock exists and X Server cannot start.
When i remove it and start gpe-dm it does not work.

So, i started the X Server again and killed it and then started gpe-dm
again.

Then only it Works ?.

I dont know what is the problem.

I checked in my rootfs which was tarred and the /tmp directory is empty.

What is the Problem ?.  I dont understand.

Once the Image Comes up and if i make a few changes and then reboot. Again the
gpe-dm does not work ?.

Has any one faced this problem before. Please Advice.

I am appending my minicom output here.

What could be the Problem. Please Advice.

This happens if i make an jffs2 and flash it.

I am sure the file system /tmp has no .X0-lock file when it booting.

I have the above sequence many times. it happens always.

I have also tried with 3 different TI OMAP 5912 boards and it happens everytime.

Ram

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpe (open Embedded) Unpredicatble Behaviour ?
« on: June 29, 2005, 06:27:23 am »
Hi,

I have an gpe-image with me and have mounted using -o loop option and have taken a tar of mounted
point and have created a jffs2 filesystem using mkjffs2 utility.

I have flashed the kernel from
Kernel --> 0x40000
FileSystem --> 0x240000

Regards,
Ram
