6000 - Tosa / Angstrom Status On Tosa

Not sure what you mean by "track", however update specified 2007.

[!--quoteo(post=0:date=:name=lumag)--][div class=\'quotetop\']QUOTE(lumag)[/div][div class=\'quotemain\'][!--quotec--]The workaround was pushed into 2008 branch. If you do track 2007.1, get apm-tosa-suspendfix package from 2008 feed
and install it.

Does this mean if I use opkg, I'll be on the right track (so to speak)?  Or is it editing the /etc/opkg files?

[/quote]

Hey undrwater

FYI the 2008 branch is now in the autobuild feeds here : http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...autobuild/tosa/ so you can test the current development version instead of the "Old" stable. It features lots of improvements (one of them being the use of opkg instead of ipkg) and all the Tosa work from Dmitry.

Hey Speculatrix,

Sorry I should have specified

Tosa hasn't been a supported plateform during the latest stable release for lack of maintainers to solve the tosa specific issues. But you can find the 2007.12 r8 images here :
http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unstable/images/tosa/ which are the last know working images with 2.6.23 kernels. The 2007.12 r9 marked the switch to 2.6.24 and a massive tosa breakage that has just been solved by Dmitry.

You can find all images incudling the new OPIE images here : http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...autobuild/tosa/ (use the installkits)

It seems the new kernel from Dmitry hasn't been committed yet so you will find the zimage from here : http://tosa.lumag.spb.ru/uploads/tosa-stable-images/debug/

I know you don't need the instructions as you are an experienced tosa users  but in case somebody needs them :

1. For GPE download : http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...-installkit.tgz
    For OPIE download : http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...-installkit.tgz
2. Download the alternative kernel from Dmitry : http://tosa.lumag.spb.ru/uploads/tosa-stab...zImage-tosa.bin
3. Rename it to zimage.bin
4. Extract the installkit
5. Replace the zimage.bin by the one from Dmitry
6. Put the files on a FAT formatted CF or SD
7. Reset with the stylus.
8. Press OK while pressing the ON button
9. Choose Update and then CF or SD
10. After the flashing it should reboot automatically
11. Test Angstrom

Let me know if you have any issues

good news late is still good news! does that means the backlight is stuck ON or OFF?
Hey Speculatrix,

It was always stuck off, that's why it was unusable   Anyway while I was posting this, Dmitry released a new kernel with a fix at the same place so now you can test the latest Angstrom on the tosa.

Honestly I haven't had the time to try anything on it yet, so I can't tell you if it's good or not but it's still means a working 2.6.24 kernel on tosa !

Anyway if people could have a go with it, I bet Dmitry could do with more tosa users testings.

Sorry to post on a dead post but I just wanted to let you know that after lots of debugging from Dmitry he finally manage to solve the 2.6.24 bug on the tosa kernel.

It is available here : http://tosa.lumag.spb.ru/uploads/tosa-stable-images/debug/

So now Angström is booting back with the r19 image. But with that image the backlight doesn't seems to work on my tosa. I haven't tried other images yet though to check.

Discussion on the topic can be found here : http://lists.linuxtogo.org/pipermail/angst...ber/002737.html

More information on Dmitry's tosa page : http://tosa.lumag.spb.ru/news/17/55/Status-update.html

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Need Oz Community Help - Nand Release Of Oz

What's stopping you from doing a normal C+D+reset flash? ohmy.gif
Well the flash hangs before completing, due to the corrupted (Bad) blocks in the internal memory. I guess it is making checks that the NAND backup is obviously not doing.
Quote
Point me to instructions and I will do NAND Backup from tosa. It will contain OpenZaurus 3.5.4 in OPIE flavour with all upgrades available plus something.

Why OPIE? No problems if root password is not set ;D
Hi Hrw thanks

This is very easy you just need to go into the system menu by doing Fn + D + M + Reset at the same time. Then click on page down to go the NAND backup/restore.

BTW you can do a NAND before setting the password in GPE or e17 :
 - after installing OZ asking you for a reset do the above Fn + D + M + Reset instead -> NAND backup
 - then you will have a clean just installed image without the password set !

I believe this is quite useful for people like you that reinstall quite often to have these kind of backups

I'm willing to try to make a library of all the NAND I can find for all machines, to help people in the same situation, so even if you do not have a 6000 and have some clean NAND backups, send them over and I will try to host them  Who knows one day you may be happy to find them somewhere ! I saw that lots of C1000 users had the same Bad Blocks issue.

Anyway if you find my idea intersting let me know Hrw. I know Guilhem used to do NAND release of his rom as it is very easy to install afterward.

Well my call for help didn't really had the success I expected  . Does nobody has a NAND backup of their OpenZaurus install ?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=133819\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

they probably do have backups, but those are likely to include personal data. so I doubt anyone is going to be willing to share those.... plus there aren't that many 6000 users, less those that have OZ
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=133820\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Well I know I used to make a NAND backup just before installing anything or after configuring but before putting any personnal data just to speed up the re-installation process...

Maybe now that the OZ team got a 6000 for testing they eventually could provide a NAND backup... at least I hope

Thanks for your answer anyway Meanie I was starting to feel lonely

Hi all,

I have been using OZ since I bought my Zaurus 2 years ago, but after lots of Flashing/reflashing I now have some Corrupted block in my internal memory

I tried every possible way but it is definitely not possible to recover from this kind of error...

So now I can't flash my 6000 with OZ or Angstrom but I manage to make the NAND restore/backup working. So I'm now back to the stock ROM with Debian/XQt

I am desperate to have OZ back on my Zaurus, I can't stand the SHARP stock ROM  and I wanted to help testing the 2.6 kernel on the 6000 !!!!

So I need your help ! If somebody could provide me a NAND backup of their OZ - GPE (or e17) 3.5.4 on the 6000 that would be great  !

We could even organise (if the OZ devs are OK) a NAND release of all the flavour of OZ to help people that have the same issue.

I may even be able to soon provide some space to host the images.

Contact me if you are interested
Thanks in advance

Open Embedded / Is The Angstroem Distr. Part Of Openembedded?

Hello,
I want to know is the Angstroem Distribution a part of OpenEmbedded?
Where could I find some information about the distribution and the reasons for build it?
regards
Hi mr_nice, nice nickname

From the official newsletter  :
Quote
Ångström is a new user- and developerfriendly OE-based distribution for Linux-based PDAs and WebPads which is currently in planning state.

The first Ångström release will support the HP iPAQ, Sharp Zaurus, and SIEMENS SIMpad family of devices.
In a nutshell Ångström is part of OE and is aiming to be a full replacement of OpenZaurus, Familiar, OpenSimPad... that's to make a universal distribution supporting all the architecture supported by the above distributions.

The website is quite new and you will find more information on it : http://angstrom-distribution.org/

At least this is my understanding of Ã…ngström, please correct me koen or mickeyl if I am wrong

Hi guys,

With ekiga 2.0 now released would it be feasible to run it on gpe ? If yes would it be something you could add to the gpe feed ?

Thanks again Hrw for your tremendeous job

If anyone is interested, I can put up some windows .bat files with "somewhat" optimal settings to rip from a DVD or actual .avi or .mpg file.

Hi mbaush I think everybody would be interested in getting the command line you are using. The only problem will be to find the correct resolution/bitrate by Zaurus model... just a matter of tests

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Openzaurus 3.5.4 Status
« on: March 07, 2006, 05:53:50 am »
I am surprised that with all the impatient waiting eagerly for the new OZ release, nobody posted the good news that is on the OZ website !! : OZ 3.5.4 tagged

Quote
I want to inform all of you that I tagged OpenZaurus 3.5.4 in .oz354fam083 branch.

What does it mean for you:

- if you are user then you will get OpenZaurus 3.5.4 soon (few days)
- if you are OE/OZ developer then you can start working on OZ 3.5.4.1

What was changed in OpenZaurus 3.5.4? List is too long to be even created but I want to note few things:

- OPIE 1.2.1 (with lot of hires fixes made after 1.2.1 release - mostly by me
- GPE 2.7 (also with some fixes which was done after 2.7 release)
- 2.4.18 kernels with APM fixes so no more suspend/resume problems
- WE18/WE19 in kernels so WPA should work out-of-box
- cleaned pcmcia configs so CF cards should work out-of-box too
- some of 802.11g CF cards probably will work
- Enlightenment DR 17 images (experimental)

Now we need to start build machine and after few days we will release it.

OpenZaurus 3.5.4 test program is closed now.

REMIND: Due to lot of problems with 2.4.20 on cxx00 machines we decided to not release 3.5.4 for those machines. It does not makes sense to release 3.5.4 with crappy cxx00 support and then lose again our reputation before some weeks later we could have 3.5.4.1 with proper cxx00 support.

I just can't wait to see it release ! Thanks Hrw MickeyL and all the OZ developpers for their great work
