User Request for Applications / Need compiled! OpenVMPS - command line tool
« on: November 16, 2004, 05:28:24 pm »
Just an update.  I've had two people compile this for me!
I would like to thank Jeff Baker and Kenroy Harrison, they both compile the app for me and dropped me an email so i'm all set!  I still need to test it out but first I need to get my MAC on my wireless card registered with my schools lab so I can test it out.

The software acts as a VMPS (VLAN Management Policy Server), it stores a list of mac addresses and cooresponding VLANs.  When a computer plugs into a cisco switch it will query the server (in this care, my zaurus) and see what VLAN the computer belongs on or if it should just shutdown the port.  It's a pretty cool tool, I've got it running on my Ubuntu Linux box and I thought when I give a presentation on this next week it would be impressive to show the server running on a PDA as a backup to the main server (my laptop).

Anyways, thanks again!

Linux Applications / Need compiled!! OpenVMPS - console linux app
« on: November 14, 2004, 01:07:05 pm »
http://vmps.sourceforge.net/

This is a small tool to act as a VMPS server for Cisco Switches...

I'm doing a presentation for a networking class on this and instead of running the server on my Ubuntu Linux laptop I'd rather run the server off my Zaurus =) I'm sure that'd give me some extra points!!!!

Anyway if you can get this compiled, which should be reallllly easy then please email me at Matthew.d.williams@gmail.com ASAP.

I'm pretty sure it requires nothing special and hopefully will compile with no problems!!!

So please, someone out there give it a shot

I'm running The Kompany ROM on a 5500 if that assists at all.

Thanks!!!

This is for a 5500 running a Sharp ROM (Kompany) if that matters, I just noticed looking at some of the development stuff you need the older gcc for the Sharp ROMS.

If anyone can tackle this please do so ASAP!!  Would be much appreciated!!!

My thought exactly, anything to pump out applications quicker without the risk of messing up your own box!

Plus there has to be someone out there willing to do all the setup.  I\'ll do my best of course from the tutorials but if I run into a snag i\'ll bring someone in to do the dirty work

I have a old laptop, a 400mhz celeron, nothing too special, about 4gb harddrive.  It\'s loaded up with Debian right now, although its a little screwy so I need to reinstall for a fresh setup

I am willing to offer this as a free development box if anyone out there wants to mess around with stuff and doesn\'t have a box of there own.

I\'ll simply use SSH for all to connect and if root is needed then arrangments can be made.

If anyone is familiar with setting up a development enviroment for the Zaurus and would like to set one up on my Linux box for me that\'d be great.

Of course anyone can use this for anything they need, just no abuse of course

If anyone is interested leave a message.  I\'m moving to Florida for a few months and will have a lot of time on my hands (young college kid, working a internship, moving in with my brother) so I\'ll be looking for some stuff to do.

If the interest is there i\'ll do my best to get this box up and running asap for people to use.

Thanks!

First site to add to the list:
http://slashdot.org/palm/

Mobile version of slashdot of course, makes for viewing TEN times easier!

Let\'s build up a nice list now!

Slashdot provides both a rdf and xml feed of their headlines:
http://slashdot.org/slashdot.rdf
http://slashdot.org/slashdot.xml

Would anyone be able to write a app to simply display these?

Also there would be a update button to update them nice and easily

Each would be clickable which would then open Opera pointing towards the URL of the story

If this can be done, the next step would be caching the site so you can view the stories offline, but thats another app in itself. so a basic viewer would be appreciated, thanks!!!!

Would anyone like to share websites they use that are already formatted for use on a handheld?

I know Opera performs great but sometimes its just nice to get the info and get out without the other jazz.  I\'d like to start building a bookmark file that can be later shared for all to use.

So post away if you have any good bookmarks!

6000 - Tosa / GPS and the 6000L
« on: May 04, 2004, 03:23:09 pm »
I would just settle for a standalone, handheld GPS.

I own a Magellen Meridian that I bought for $110, it has 100x the features of my buddy and his pocketPC w/gps card.  Mine has a searial interface that I can use with my laptop to use with Microsoft Streets and Trips or I can just use the GPS by itself.  It floats in water and has super long battery life.

Not to mention its fun to go geocaching with  www.geocaching.com

Get something that\'ll interface with a PC and you\'ll be set, with the lack of mapping software and the short battery life of the Z, you could spend less on a standalone GPS and you would have a much better time

I play Disc Golf practically every day of the week if the weather is nice and I have been using my Zaurus to score mine and my buddies rounds with Hancom Sheet, but it has been such a pain to pull out the keyboard every time!

This is going to be perfect, snag my Z from my pocket, use the d-pad to adjust the scoring, and on I go!

I\'m installing Slackware on my laptop this afternoon and plan to setup a zaurus development enviroment.  Hopefully I can get my feet wet in development, what you\'re doing is great and I\'d love to join in!
