SIMpad forum / Simpad Didn't Last Long...
« on: July 28, 2005, 08:15:47 pm »
I had to update my old version of Cygwin.  If you install CVS, it seems to require an update or install of the majority of the development tools.  I don't know if this is overkill for compiling jtag---to install CVS.  Installing only CVS, updated everything else for me automatically.

The newer jtag does not compile right.  You have to use 0.4.  The jtag Readme file was very helpful; however, I would have worded step 3 something like this:
Run: ./configure --with-include=PATH-TO-OPENWINCE

There is one thing I do not understand.  I have compiled jtag several times and each time the executable is different.  Checksums and file comparisons are not the same.

If any one wants my jtag, I can post it.

That's interesting.  I've always assumed that there was a jtag program ready when I needed it.

I have already installed CYGWIN, but what comes next....
Do you have the various developer tools installed like gcc, make, etc?

This may not help much, but I find that infrared signals can sometimes be heard when the device is close to a radio.  Computing devices like pda's emit other kinds of static however.  But you may be able to compare to other infrared devices like remotes and keyboards.

I need to ask:
can I jtag blupdater.img ?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=88188\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
You should try it so we can know if you can.

If you are at the point of jtagging, then you can pretty much fix whatever goes wrong with respect to flashing.  Good luck.

linky

That is mostly text.  Save as a document or text file.  You can word wrap if you have to.

Niv, a couple of us gave you the steps depending on which image you wanted to use.

If you are intending to try the old 0.8.0 or 0.8.1 images, you *will* need 2.5.3.

If you are simply flashing in the newer 0.9.0 or 0.9.1 images, you need to upload blupdater.img

I agree with this.  However I had forgotten this and put Familiar Opie 0.8.2 on top of blupdater.img and things seem ok.  I think I remember reading that blupdater.img is not compatible with Win CE images, but I don't recall it being incompatible with Linux versions below 0.9.

   9. run serload loader_bl from the command line
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
This seems incorrect from what I have read and done (see [a href=\"http://www.thomas.miglinci.name/simpad/ar01s04.html]http://www.thomas.miglinci.name/simpad/ar01s04.html[/url] that you referenced on the first page of this thread).

After I install the original bootloader (simpad-XX.rom), I flash with
loader_bl.alt followed next by loader_bl.
