Dear kkazakov13, seems like msn and jabber are broken with this one. Is it possible to fix them? Really want to get them working! Many thanks!

I installed e17 from the http://www.pdaxron.org/contrib/daal/ feed and had no problems at all.  I just followed the instructions in the threads here and set it as the default wm for a new user, so I could test it out while still using icewm.

It's definately fast and very usable but I find configuring e a bit of a pain and the suspend routine seems broken.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The one from daal is quite old as last time I checked (and now the feed is down?). I have installed a later build from uman ([a href=\"http://uman.gefechtsdienst.de/files/feed/]http://uman.gefechtsdienst.de/files/feed/[/url]) which I think is from CVS of 2007/04/21. I found no big problem with this build and suspend/resume worked OK. (I use the power button to suspend/resume)

1. I cannot add icons on the desktop - could not find how to do it.
2. In xterm I cannot type "0" - really weird, as I'm trying to load everything as in rox desktop.
3. How I can add applications to "All applications" ?

1. Can you really put icons in e17 desktop? I've looked around but haven't seen a single screenshot of e17 with icons on it! As a workaround I use rox pinboard on top of e17. (I know it consumes a bit of memory, but I constantly use swap file...)
2. There is no such problem in uman's build...
3. I think e17 has already incorporated .desktop files for the application menu, so no .eap files are needed as in daal's build. The application menu configuration file should be created as ~/.config/menus/applications.menu. E17 can pick up desktop files from the normal desktop file path, i.e., /usr/share/applications, and local files from ~/local/share/applications. You may create submenus by putting directory files at ~/local/share/desktop-directories. Icons are automatically loaded from /usr/share/pixmaps but it seems to read png files only. The format of menu, directory and desktop files can be found at freedesktop.org. (http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications_2fmenu_2dspec)

You may also create a menu file as ~/.e/e/applications/menu/favorite.menu, which will then be shown by e17 as the favorite menu. Or, alternatively, you can create the favorite menu by using e17's own Configuration panel->Menus->Favorite Menu. But you must configure the application menu first before anything will appear here.

As a side notes, you may also configure iBar by creating a file ~/.e/e/applications/bar/default/.order, which is simple listing of desktop files (one desktop file in one line)

Sounds like a lot of works but once you've set up the menu structure correctly, it's a simple task to add new apps to it!

Hello

I have, surprisingly, been able to compile the zd1211 driver for a USB stick I have for use with Cacko on my SL-C1000.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Would you be kind enough to also compile for zd1211b (for Cacko/Sharp ROM) since it's much easier to find zd1211b dongles now!
I'm about to buy such a dongle if the driver is available!

Source: [a href=\"http://www.atheros.com/RD/ZyDAS/web_driver/ZD1211B/Linux/ZD1211LnxDrv_2_15_0_0.tar.gz]http://www.atheros.com/RD/ZyDAS/web_driver...2_15_0_0.tar.gz[/url]

Or, kindly tell me how you compile the zd1211 driver
(since I've tried but obviously unsuccessful!   )

Many thanks!

I'd like to abe able to watch youtube videos on the Zaurus, but haven't found a satisfactory way. Here is what I found out so far. (C860 Sharp ROM in case the sig is too far down).

Of course, it does no good to go directly to youtube in either Netfront or Opera, it complains of lack of plugin. Giving the URL to kino2 doesn't work either. I've tried going to keepvid.com which allows you to download youtube videos but it doesn't work in Netfront while in Opera it appears to work but always times out.

On the bright side, if I use keepvid.com or some similar means to download a video on a desktop computer (it's a flash video) I can transfer it to the Zaurus and it will play just fine with mplayer or kino2 (once you add .flv to the list of acceptable files). I've tried ssh -X to a desktop to download the video there and transfer to the Zaurus but there were some bandwidth issues which prevented it from working.

Any ideas?

Felipe

For changing font size, try edit /home/zaurus/.opera/opera.ini and add/edit:

[Font.Normal]
Height=20

Don't know how to set the column mode. It seems like the column width is hard coded for 320x240 devices.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Supported Wlan Card
« on: May 15, 2006, 10:05:50 pm »
It should be one of the Agere Hermes II cards. Do a keyword search on this site should give you some direction.

I think currently Cacko is the only zaurus ROM that supports it.

Software / Mplayer 640x480 1000kbps(v+a)
« on: April 13, 2006, 09:58:00 am »
If you don't rotate the video and play it straight without overclocking, it will stutter at intensive action scenes, even you don't do double buffering. (Which happens quite a lot with my beloved starwars movies!)

And without double buffering (and no rotation), you'll have very bad horizontal tearing which is very annoying (to me at least).

So if you really don't want to convert the movies, I think the only way to go is to overclock to 624Mhz with double, or 520 without (if you're ok with the tearing effect) - at 520Mhz you should still have much more mileage than 624...

Since mostly i use my zaurus to watch movies ripped from DVDs, which are 720xsomething and way too large to fit in a CF, i do conversion anyways. So it's not much of a problem to me...

If you don't mind converting the video, you can encode the video 90 degrees rotated clockwise, preserving all video/audio bit rates as you suggest, don't  use double buffering while playback, and you can still achieve a rather smooth playback without overclocking.

Not using double buffering will cause some tearing, but being rotated, the tearing happens vertically, which is very tolerable to the eyes.

This way you can enjoy 4 hrs(!) of vga quality movie with a fully charged battery while you're on the move.

Software / Camera Software Not Working
« on: March 02, 2006, 07:26:50 am »
rogerbowering,

You may download and install the package from here if you want to try:
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/1.1.0beta1/Zaurus-....1_armv5tel.ipk

meanie, do you mind posting the Cacko driver so i don't have to re-flash my sharp rom to try? (Can't find it in Cacko's feed) Hopefully it will solve the quirkness i experience...

Software / Camera Software Not Working
« on: March 01, 2006, 07:48:31 am »
The camera kernel module sharpzdc-cs in Sharp rom is for kernel 2.4.18 only. Use the one in pdaxrom RC12 feed (see https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...16416&hl=camera - Yes, it works with sharp rom!) and it should work with qpe-camera, albeit some quirks (e.g., very bizzare viewfinder orientation angle, CF unusable after unplug the camera, etc...)

Honestly speaking, the camera is really too low quality for any serious photoshooting, but if someone can make it work as a web camera then it'll be real cool! (I know it occupies the CF slot, but CXX00 machines have usb LAN/wifi/BT )

Qt/Qtopia / WarCraft on the Zaurus (640x480)? "FreeCraft" or &
« on: February 27, 2006, 01:50:25 am »
I played with it and it was really slow at the beginning, and had to overclock the CPU to achieve playable speed. But when you reach stage 4, it suddenly runs faster without any tuning at all! I wonder if it is by design to let players get used to the gameplay initially.

I got it to work on my sl-c1000, using an wargus2.0 script to extract data.
Althought the game seems to run smoothly as it is reactive, the units movement is rather slow... anyone knows if this is an option-solvable issue?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Help Running Exult On A C3100
« on: February 11, 2006, 03:56:08 am »
Hi,

Just got my exult running last month, so I may offer some idea while I still remember.

In your /home/zaurus/.exult.cfg file (if you're using the user 'zaurus' to play the game) locate the <path> element. Set this to the path where you have the blackgate directory. You don't need the "static" subdir specified. In the <gamedat_path> element, you need to give the full path (e.g., /mnt/cf/XXXXX/blackgate/gamedat).

You may also set the savegame path so your games are saved onto the CF or whereever you want.

hope that helps and enjoy your weekend.

Cheers,
Patrick.

Hello,

I'm a new Zaurus user, I just got my Z two days ago! Also, I am predominantly a windows user, because that's what my company writes code in, but I have experience with Linux and have already found my way around the Zaurus BASH.

I would really, really, really like to get Exult working on my Z. While I tell myself this isn't the reason I bought the Zaurus, I was definately one of the selling features for me.

Here's what I got so far:
{
I got SNES (9XSnes) working following the instructions in the forum. I noticed that Exult and SNES both need SDL and SDL mixer installed :

1. When I use the proper CVS versions of SDL( libSDL 1.2.6cvs-1 AND libSDL-mixer 1.2.5cvs-1 ),  the screen is rotated, off centre and the keys on the keypad are backwards. Also, Exult freezes the Zaurus when trying to load with these versions.

2. When I use the SDL that came with the SNES package( libSDL 1.2.6slz AND libSDL-mixer 1.2.5zpo ), Exult loads with the screen in proper orentation BUT it says it cannot find the data files for blackgate or serpents isle.

So I assume I use the SDL for the SNES because this looks to be hacked to work properly for the Z.
}

{
I have used Exult on the desktop so I know what I need here. I copied the data files from my Ultima Collection CD to the Zaurus.

I put the files in /mnt/cf/exult-data/bg[si]/static/ AND edit my .exult.cfg to reference these locations.

When I start up Exult, it says it cannot find the datafiles.

1. When I goto /home/zaurus/bin/ and run the exult.sh script dirtectly, I see that it is appears to not use my .exult.cfg to look for the location of the data files.

I get the following errors :
a) Warning: couldn't open ./static/u7voice.flx
Black Gate  : not found (./static/endgame.dat)
c) etc, etc, etc

This tells me that it is looking for the STATIC directory in /home/zaurus/bin/, not the location specified by the .exult.cfg because I ran the script exult.sh from /home/zaurus/bin/ (the current directory) and it is looking for the file ENDGAME.DAT in ./static/, which is 'CURRENT_DIRECTORY/STATIC'.

So, I am absolutely confused.
}

Does anyone know what I am talking about. Can someone help me out with this?

I'd love to get a six-pack and play some U7 this weekend ....

Thanks,

Andres

Sharp ROMs / Agere Hermes Ii Wifi Card
« on: August 05, 2005, 11:50:50 am »
Steve,

you need to install libcurses_5.0 package to get make menuconfig to work.
Wish you good luck with your experiment!

Quote
Hi Patrick,
glad to hear you have had success.
I'm trying to do a similar thing on the C3000 and cannot get
make menuconfig to work despite the zgcc package compiling
simple programs without error.
I was wondering if you could describe how you installed zgcc or point me to a website.
Thanks

Steve
