Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Mplayer Brightness Control ?
« on: November 20, 2006, 01:51:08 pm »
I just upgraded to the latest Hentes ROM on my Poodle (OZ 3.5.4.2-rc2).  I'm running mplayer 1.0pre8-3.4.4.  The version of mplayer I used with Watapon ROM (sharp-based) allowed me to use "3" and "4" to change the brightness up and down.  The OZ version I'm using does not.  I set up my input.conf with all the standard key commands and still can't change the brightness.  I'm assuming this is an issue with the sdl video driver?  I _can_ control the volume with "0" and "9", but the little volume slider display doesn't show up on the screen.

I really can't see some of my avi files very well without playing with the brightness and contrast.  Is there any way to do with the current OZ compilation of mplayer?  Thanks.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hentges Rom: New Versioning System

A new update is available (use the dist-upgrade command):

- fixed a bug with dist-upgrade on machines where CardFS is used (Courtesy elhennig@z-portal)
- Many improvements to dist-uprade, including support for a testing feed
- Fixed initial asound.state for Poodle (sound should now work out of the box / after a reboot on upgrades now)
- Added a few more work-arounds for this god damn Opie medium-mount bug

Upgrade worked fine, and now I have sound on my Poodle.  BUT ... every time a sound plays I get about 2 seconds of static afterwards.  I seem to recall seeing this problem on some forum post before but can't recall the solution.   Thanks for the hardwork Coredump!

UPDATE:  Fixed using Greg2's asound.state

I don't see the medium-mount bug on my Poodle with the latest snapshot.
@phisch
Did you answer [y] to format the SD when using the new updater.sh? I'm trying to understand why it would work for some and not others?

Yes I did.  No partitions, ext2.

Also users running into Opies cursed medium-mount bug should be happy to hear that this bug should no longer occur with the new images.
EDIT: Well, at least on Poodle it should be gone...
I'm sorry to have to tell you that the damn bug is still there... and 'ipkg remove opie-mediummount' shows 'no package found nothing to do'

So I will use my old hack again.

Thanks

Greg

One question.  opie-qss is installed, but still no sound.  Do I have to do something with alsa?  What packages do I need and what is the procedure?
Thanks.

Sound worked out of the box when I last tried a clean image

Please check if
cat /usr/share/sounds/beep.raw and mplayer /usr/share/sounds/gaim/$SOME_WAVE_FILE produce sound on your System.

If not you may need to play with "alsamixer".

No sound from mplayer or catting to /dev/audio.  "Played" with alsamixer still no sound.  Tried both speaker and headphones

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hentges Poodle Images With Native Root-on-sd

Hey all,

just in case you haven't been following the "Hentges Rom: New Versioning System" thread,
here is a little heads-up to new root-on-SD-only Poodle images.

Testing them would be much appreciated.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=145600\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The flash (Opie) went fine, but I can't boot up.  It goes along fine, then I get this window which says "A new storage media detected: MMC Card What should I do with it?"  I can't see the whole window but there are a bunch of checkboxes, a text box with title "Limit search to:" and two buttons "Add" and "Remove".  I can "tab" around the window with the direction pad, and change checkboxes with the button, but I can't select "Add" or "Remove" nor does the touchscreen seem to work.  Above this window I see on the console "Loading bootsplash... Use Alt-LeftArrow to see the boot messages."  I can't make this popup window go away or get past this point.  I've tried both "1 Normal Boot" and "3 SD Boot" from the altboot menu and the same thing happens.  Did I do something wrong?
Thanks.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Belkin F8u1500-e Keyboard
« on: October 12, 2006, 01:53:22 pm »
Is there any news on this front?  I would sure like to try out the latest 2.6 kernel OZ version on my Poodle, but IrDa keyboard support is a must have.  Anyone had any luck in this regard?
Thanks.

Sharp ROMs / Watapon ROM

too bad that another Zaurus distro goes into dust

In OpenZaurus team we are unable to help poodle (sl-5600) users mainly due to lack of hardware (no device). We are trying to release images which work because it does not take much time but sooner or later it could finish in abadonland...

Hopefully later.  Hentges has recruited at least some level of beta testers for 3.5.4 and poodle (I was one of them).  Seriously nobody on the OZ team has a poodle?  Anyone have one to donate or want to pitch in to get them one?

I love OZ on my poodle, but for the life of me I cannot get my IrDA keyboard to work with it, and I've never met anyone that could.  Perhaps we should donate one of these too?

Hi, I just joined these forums after searching for a solution to getting my WCF12 to work on the Zaurus SL-5600 I just bought. It's a refurbished model running ROM Version 1.32. Most info I find online says that the WCF12 will be recognized out of the box, but no luck. I see the advice to upgrade the 5500 to ROM Version 3.10, but it doesn't look like there is a Version higher than 1.32 available for the 5600. At least I haven't found one yet. Can anyone help?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I have the same results.  Just got a new WCF12 from amazon plugged into my SL-5600,  configured everything and I cannot connect (to my DLink wireless router).  Anbody have any tricks out there for this card on SL-5600?  Perhaps they've changed the hardware in the card somehow?  What command line commands should we run to help figure this out?  Thanks and regards, -Phil

p.s. I'm using Watapon 1.6.1
p.p.s This link implies that WCF12 now uses prism3 chipset.  Can anyone confirm?

More data.  My new WCF12 came right up in OpenZaurus 3.5.3.  It must require newer drivers.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=93450\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Have you tried kismet or wellenreiter with it?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=97738\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I've reflashed back to a sharp based ROM, because I couldn't get an IrDA keyboard to work with OZ.  I did try Wellenreiter when had OZ, and had no luck with it.  It would not even find the AP in my home.  I was under the impression it would not work with Prism3 cards?

I just switched back over to OZ, but haven't had time to get my pocketop keyboard working yet. IRK isn't listed in the OZ feeds anywhere (that I can see). Who knows where I can get the package for it? thks
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

It's in the opie feed:

[a href=\"http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.3/feed/opie/]http://www.openzaurus.org/official/unstable/3.5.3/feed/opie/[/url]

Let me know if you get your Pocketop to work.  Good luck!

could you try to rmmod all irda modules and then try irk? maybe irda0 block irda port...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=95029\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I don't think I have any irda modules loaded.
> lsmod
sharp_mmcsd_m
pxa_bi
net_fd
usbdcore

I tried killing irattach, and restarting it.  No effect either way.  What devices need to be present for this to work?  Just ircomm0?
Oh, I'm using Hentges ROM if that matters.
I noticed I don't have a kernel-module-irda installed.  I assume it's compiled into the kernel?

Has anyone gotten ANY ir keyboard to work with OZ 3.5.3 on a poodle? If so, what irk did you use, what keyboard do you have, and what contortions did you go through to make it work?
Thanks in advance!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Trouble With Belkin Keyboard And 3.5.3

I'm using OZ 3.5.3 as included with the Poodle Hentges ROM.

Bought a new Belkin keyboard (F8U1500) to use with my poodle.  Went through the contorted installation of irk-belkin with -force-depends to bypass the (unneeded?) lirc dependency.  My Z can receive IR messages from my phone with no problem with the irda applet on.  When I look through my digital camera at the keyboard irda port I see lights as I push the keys.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=94312\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Okay, let me re-phrase the question.
Has anyone gotten ANY ir keyboard to work with OZ 3.5.3 on a poodle?  If so, what irk did you use, what keyboard do you have, and what contortions did you go through to make it work?
Thanks in advance!

lirc does not provided driver for pxa based machines.

Interesting.  Sorry, didn't realize that. I guess these guys:

[a href=\"http://www.currybrothers.com/zaurus/sl5600_patches.html]http://www.currybrothers.com/zaurus/sl5600_patches.html[/url]

must have written their own driver?  Haven't looked at their source.
