Software / Zroadmap + Flite. Help!

I am running zroadmap v1.02 on a SL5500 (Sharp ROM 3.13) and it works fine.
However I would like to take advantage of flite since it is support by zroadmap.

I copied flite.bin v1.2 into /usr/bin and it works fine from command line.
It sounds fine and reads any text or file input without any errors.
When I enable flite for zroadmap it only reads the very first navigation text
and then it goes silent. If I restart zroadmap it does the same thing.
Only reads the first navigation text then stops. The navigation text continues
showing up on the screen while driving but flite remains silent.

I made an 8mb swap file and tried that thinking I was running out of memory but same thing     I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

timkz:

I tried flite with Zroadmap out today and the voice only works ONCE and then stops just like you said.

Does anybody have this working?  Maybe it just needs some kind of setting in the "voice" tab in Zroadmap or does it have to be installed to internal memory?

I have a 16 MB swap file.

Thanks for any help.

What version of Zroadmap are you running?

You can get the file from here:

http://www.speech.cs.cmu.edu/flite/packed/flite-1.2/

and download this file: flite_arm_bin.tar.gz

Then untar the file and it will give you two files: flite.bin and flite_time.bin.
Copy flite.bin into your /usr/bin or /home/QtPalmtop/bin directory.
Make sure your permission are set for all users. Now start up a terminal and
type: flite -t "hello world" to test it out. That should be it.

Try it out with zroadmap and see if you have the same problem I have.

Good luck!

Thanks, timkz, but I just get Bus error when I type in that command.  I can get flite_time to work by typing the command flite_time 02:45 (or any other time) but flite gives a bus error.  Does that mean it needs more room to operate?  How do I fix that?

The easiest way to make more room is to uninstall some software. However if you have both flite.bin and flite_time.bin copied into /usr/bin that takes up space too.
I would remove flite_time.bin and then try running flite.bin.

I personally have never seen a bus error. So I can't tell you if it has anything to do with lack of program space. I went into "Settings/System Info" on my zaurus and of the 32mb available I have approx. 12mb used, 6mb buffers, 8.5mb cached and 5.5mb free. Flite runs fine without setting up any swap space on my SL5500.

Let me know if this helps.
