Zaurus - pdaXrom / Problem Flashing Pdaxrom
« on: April 21, 2006, 11:54:36 am »
Hi,

Finally I decided to flush my newly purchased (albait second-hand)
SL-C760 to pdaXrom. But I got serious problems. This is my first
reflashing Z BTW.

I downloaded the official/stable 1.1.0beta1 for 760.

I followed the instructions. First I resized the root partition to the recomended
50MB - flashin RO f/s announced a segmentation fault after 12% !
I then resized the partition to 60MB - the same result.
Next 64MB - now it got to around 66% then it opened an error dialog  and
rebooted (at least some progress).
Finally when I resized the root partition to 72MB it flashed all the way but
hanged up when it should reboot itself (saying that there are no programs
at this runlevel). After rebooting by battery removing I managed to start
Z. After starting X's it opened me twm (grrr.) with a clock and few terminals.
After changing xinitrc I managed to run openbox but again in a twm-like form:
only terminal and a clock no menus, no icons....

Can anyone suggest how to make it work!
I simply want to make it run Maxima and wxMaxima and I'm not much
interested in hacking it all the time...

Thanks in advance,
Przemek

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Wxmaxima For Pdaxrom
« on: April 17, 2006, 03:44:47 pm »
Hi,

[This is related to the other thread posted below, but I decided to
ask it separatelly]

I saw a screenshot of wxMaxima running on Zaurus here:
http://zaurus.hacks.dyndns.org/

Anyway I cannot find the package anywhere on the web. So my
question is: does anyone have the wxMaxima package for Z and
can share it?

Thank in advance,
Przemek

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Maxima For Pdaxrom
« on: April 17, 2006, 03:38:57 pm »
Hi,

Is there a ready to use Maxima package for pdaXrom?

So far I've found only one for Cacko (on Cacko feed) it works
fine on my Cacko powered SL-C760. But I consider switching to
pdaXrom. And so I would like to know if I would still have
Maxima after changing the rom - it is the main app on my
Z, so without it I see no point to switch the distro...

In particular is there any chance that the one available on
Cacko feed will still work?
(it is here: http://web.mol.ru/~zaurus/feed/maxima_5.9.1-1_arm.ipk)
Can anyone try and report?

Thank in advance,

Poland / Gdzie Kupic Sl-c3100?
« on: September 21, 2005, 04:21:26 pm »
Zastanawiam się nad SL-C 3100. Oficjalnie tylko na rynek japoński, ale na sieci jest sporo firm sprzedających je wraz z konwersją na angieski system. I tutaj dwa pytanka:
--> Czy ktoś wie na ile "skasuje" mnie nasz kochany fiskus jak zamówie sobie taką zabawkę przez internet i ona wyląduje w przesyłce na lotnisku?
--> Drugie pytanko trochę bardziej naiwne :-) Ale czy może ktoś w Polsce sprzedaje ten model? Jeśli tak to w jakiej cenie?

TIA,
P.

X/Qt / Axiom On Z
« on: September 21, 2005, 04:48:06 am »
Hi,

I'm thinking about purchasing one of SL-C1000/3000/3100 palmtops but I have a question before I do it. I posted it on Z1000/Z3xxx forum (and got a partial answer - Maxima works on Z.), but it was suggested there to repost it here.

One of the (very) main reasons for me to use Linux palmtop is run mathematical software on it (so far I use Agenda VR3, but it can run at best Pari/GP). Since Zurus are not really cheap (at least for someone like me living and working in Poland), hence, I would buy a Zaurus if I'm sure it can run the software I need. So this is the question: does anyone know if the following app will (compile and) run on any of these models:
- Axiom: http://www.axiom-developer.org
This isn't a trivial questions since it has a bit complicated build-procedure (it'sbuild around GCL).

If anyone reading this forum has enough time and will to try to compile Axiom and report the result I would greatly appreciate - moreover it would be beneficial for the rest of the society if he/she made the compiled version available :-)

Thanks a lot in advance,

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Will Maxima/axiom Run?
« on: September 21, 2005, 04:44:39 am »
Great. Thank you all for the info. I'll cross-post to the other forum as Cresho suggested.

BTW, better GUI for Maxima is wxMaxima:
http://wxmaxima.sourceforge.net/
However it would require to port wxWidgets (http://www.wxwindows.org/) onto Z.
