Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Poor battery life
« on: December 22, 2019, 12:12:02 pm »
Updating the cover display firmware has helped to reduce the rate of battery drain.

I'm not sure one would the Cosmo in a case. I use my Gemin without a case and the metal covering is very robust.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / X27 or X25
« on: July 14, 2018, 03:14:43 am »
I received a new mat and keyboard keys for my x25 device and now just as good as a x27 device. Space bar issue addressed.

I have a x25 and a x27 device. The x25 only has one network signal strength indicator therefore assumed no eSim.

This screen protector does fit but tolerances are very small.  It is the same size the screen protector as shipped on the Gemini.

See here on eBay also available on Amazon: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3x-FX-Clear-Scre...872.m2749.l2649

The latest OTA update for my x27 device did not work (had to reflash the ROM) unlike my x25 update which went smoothly.

Batch 2 has better keyboard feel than batch 1. Also batch 1 is missing the esim.  I'll report on more later.
I have one of the original (early March) geminis. The keyboard started off a little stiff and I had to get used to it, however after 3 months of use it has bedded in particularly well. I am wondering if the newer keyboards had more tolerance, but wont bed in (ie they will remain consistent). Mine is particularly good now, and I am happily sitting on my deck in glorious Brisbane winter weather touch typing this. One thing to try to see how your keyboard is going.

Run the back of your fingernail across the keyboard in a text document (doesn't matter which). Does every key respond? Are you missing keys?

eg. very quickly running my nail produced (I stopped before backspace, enter etc)

Once you get used to it, you can get a real head of steam up when typing. I am only marginally slower than my full mechanical PC keyboard at work now.

The esim is slightly annoying, however by the time the functionality makes it here, I will be ready for gemini II.

Glad your Batch #1 device works well. My Batch #2 keyboard feels more accurate and I doesn't  have a sticky space bar. I think quality is probably better in the later batch.

More clues: when I originally set up the device, before bricking it, it gave me a choice of SIM (the 3 SIM I had inserted or 'Card 2') to use for calls and SMS. Does that indicate it is an X27 rather than an X25?

Yes. I have an x25 and x27 and that was the most obvious difference.

All the reviews on Amazon UK and eBay UK for screen protectors seems to indicate that for us Europeans we don't have access to screen protectors which fit correctly!

Another screen protector. Best so far for size but just too wide. Just about fits inside the top and bottom bezels.

Screen protector

Planet Computers Gemini PDA Glass Screen Protector [AirGlass] - Flexible Glass Protection Film https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CJH3HKH/ref=...a_RjX2AbC47JXPZ

Sadly this does not fit properly. By about 1/2mm too high. Width is fine.
I'm sorry to hear that, I believe that the vendor didn't have a Gemini to test it, so they made an (inaccurate) estimate of the screen size. I see that there's already a review on that item describing the problem (I guess it's yours, Pdajah), I'll put this info on the accessories thread too. The same vendor also sells a different type of protector for the Gemini, the upscreen one, which I fear might have the same size issue too.

Varti

Correct. Hopefully will stop Gemini owners from wasting money. Sadly that particular vendor of screen protectors is not very helpful from past experience.
