Gemini PDA - Hardware / Fast charging support
« on: May 25, 2018, 01:49:31 pm »
I don't know if anyone has tried it, but in this thread, scops identified one that may work.  I also suggested a silly workaround that should technically satisfy the requirement as well (albeit not an ideal solution).

Edit:  Just a side note to earlier in the thread - I also accidentally plugged the fast charge cable into the wrong USB type-C port for a few seconds, to no apparent ill effect.

Gemini PDA - Android / Agenda app

So...one of the things that has featured in various bits of publicity for the Gemini is an app that faithfully reproduces the Agenda on the Psion 5mx. This is honestly the best app of its kind I've ever used.

Any sign of the Gemini version anywhere?

PP

I believe some reviewers saw it in the beta state, but I have not seen anything recently.  I think it's likely Planet staff are focused on hardware delivery for the moment; however, I too am anxiously awaiting the Agenda app.  Once I'm able to use that for my to-do list on my Gemini, I can give my poor 5mx a break

Edit: I just had a very silly thought, but I wonder if the old Psion Series 3 emulator runs in Dosbox under Android...

Glad to see this as well!

Hey me too, nabbed it the day before the price went up! I also do not have my Gemini yet. There is a UK web retailer clove.co.uk (they started out selling Psions    ) who say they will have stock by 18th June. I would assume UK buyers will get their Geminis by that date at the latest.

Tritium

Ah Clove, there's a name I have not heard in a while!

I have the same problem. Though I note that in chrome alt+up and alt+down work, but I really need them to work in termux. No matter, as tonight I will install linux...

Interesting!  In firefox, alt+up and alt+down appear to function as home (top of page) and end (very bottom of page).  As do alt+left and alt+right (no political comment intended on that last one)

Gemini PDA - Android / New Android update available

I got the same issues with the rooted firmware (no dual boot).

Looks like you answered my question before I even asked it.  Was worried doing the OTA update might muck with the rooted image.  I hope Planet provides guidance on updating when rooted.  Although at least if re-flashing is required and wipes data, having root means one can use Titanium Backup or the like before/after flashing.  I certainly would like to get up to more recent security patch level.

Gemini PDA - Android / Way to save image/photo from MMS?

Thanks Varti!  That is strange, I guess I was spoiled to an extent, as my Samsung Android phones had this feature.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Benchmark

Thanks Allus. I think the single core result depends on which core it chooses. It seems results are around either 900 or 1700 and nothing in between.

That definitely makes sense, and glad I'm not the only one getting the "either/or" behavior.

Definitely enough oomph for me.

Seconded!

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Car charger ideas?
« on: May 16, 2018, 11:30:25 am »
A coworker of mine gave up on DC car chargers a while ago, he just uses an inverter and plugs in his actual AC charger to the inverter.  That would be one guaranteed way to get pump express charging in the car, I suppose

Thanks for the input.  I too hope this will have a software fix at some point.

If only Planet Computers had someplace official that we could submit bugs to and have them acknowledged and tracked.

Aye, seems no new input to that discussion in a month or so.

One quick additional note:  Home/End DO work for me in the text messaging app, although not in Microsoft Word or passed through Microsoft's remote desktop client for android

Page up and down work fine for me, but only in apps which support it. In TextMaker it does exactly what you expect. Home and End also work. I think it is just that some apps don't support the page up/down keys. They don't work, for example, viewing pages in firefox.

Interesting, thanks!  It sounds like I had just not yet found any app that supports page up/down.  Disappointing that JuiceSSH does not, since that means i have to use the on screen pop-up keyboard to scroll in irssi

(Android, possibly not Linux or other OS?) PgUp/PgDn (Fn + Up / Fn + Down) do not appear functional.  (Original topic: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=34977)

Edit: To follow-up, this may just be many apps not supporting PgUp/PgDn, unfortunately

Gemini PDA - Android / Way to save image/photo from MMS?
« on: May 15, 2018, 03:58:39 pm »
I might be missing something, but I do not seem to find an option to save a picture from an MMS message.  The share function is there, so i can send the picture to another MMS recipient or to email, etc.  But this seems like a very roundabout way of saving a picture that was sent to me.  Does anyone else have this issue or am I just neglecting to see a widget someplace?

Thanks for the input.  I too hope this will have a software fix at some point.

Gemini PDA - Android / Microsoft Office Not Starting
« on: May 15, 2018, 11:10:56 am »
Not to add insult to injury but I just installed Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel from the Yalp store and they both appear to run properly on my rooted Gemini as well.  Wish you the best of luck tracking it down!

After a quick chat on #gemini-pda on IRC, it seems I am not alone.  And there did not seem to be an existing topic on this issue.  As Linux users report functional pgup/pgdn, I am creating this topic under the Android OS subforum.  If I missed an existing topic please feel free to merge or ignore me

Does anyone have WORKING PgUp/PgDn keys in Android?

Apps I have tried and in which the keys do not work (treated as normal Up/Down arrows instead):

JuiceSSH
Microsoft remote desktop client for Android
TeamViewer
Firefox

Edit: And yes I followed the instructions at http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Configuration to update the keyboard application and configure the layout.  I have a US English model Gemini from batch 2.

Edit 2: Additional apps where pgup/pgdn do not work: Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel :-/
