Although ofc a lot of this is moot until I can get it to actually *do* anything with the commands I try and type into the terminal, not just give me a new line.

Can't get linux to do what you want if you can't get it to recognise a sudo apt-get install command....

Just checking in to see if we ever got an update on this, since what Speculatrix described was pretty much exactly my experience, any USB hub I hook up, everything works except ethernet. Which is problematic as my place is a faraday cage which kills wifi signals stone dead, so any effort to grab any packages I need's only possible by wiring it up to one of the dozens of cables I have running to every corner of my flat.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / No audio on first answering calls

Works for me.  (Well, when I tested it from my landline.  Not used it in anger yet.)

I have the ‘always answer calls in speaker mode’ setting OFF; are you sure you've tried that?

That's how I tried it until I figured I could reliably get audio in calls by switching to speaker mode.

Gemini PDA - Android / Anyone able to upload files from browsers?

Ugh. I'll give it a try, but am not hopeful. And sure wouldn't use it for most stuff, since I can't enable all my normal addons I use in it.

Gemini PDA - Android / Game emulation

How well does the Gemini handle recognising an XBox pad hooked up to the USB hub?

Odd, mine works fine on 4G with CHAP and it's the one Virgin explicitly tell you to set it to in their instructions.

7
Just tested it with the new version and it's working great. Thanks!

Gemini PDA - Android / Anyone able to upload files from browsers?
« on: June 04, 2018, 03:50:23 pm »
I've been trying for ages to find a way to get an upload dialogue any time I try to upload a picture to facebook, attach something to an email, send something over discord....
The links in the page to do so light up as having being clicked, but no upload dialogue appears giving me the option to select anything.

So far I've tried different web browsers (including older versions to see if it was just a version compatibility issue), installing multiple different file managers, all to no avail. The same problem is present exactly the same whichever browser/file manager combination I'm using.
I've tried fiddling with the apps' permissions with no success and am at my wits' end, since this is a basic function I need my device to perform if I'm going to be using it for work while travelling.

*Glances at the upload button in the bottom right*
*Clicks "Browse..."*
*Laughs as it does nothing*
*Despairs*

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Is it possible to tighten the hinge?
« on: May 26, 2018, 10:49:01 am »
This is interesting, mine is rock solid and won't close without the application of a fair bit of force, but it could be concerning long-term  if it develops looseness over time, so it'd be good to know id there's a way to tighten it..

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / No audio on first answering calls

So, I'm still at a loss on figuring out how to get the phone to have audio when I answer a call.
Currently the only thing that works is to physically open the clamshell, and then tap the speaker button.
I tried toggling the setting under Gemini Settings to "always answer calls in speaker mode" but this doesn't change anything, since it needs to be answered from the screen, not the side button for this to work.
Calls always pick up with no audio, and I have to open up the Gemini, and manually turn it to speaker to hear the person.
Needless to say, this is a bit of an issue when it comes to using it as a phone.

Any suggestions for an option I am missing?

In other news, completely out of the blue this afternoon, my Gemini suddenly switched from using 3G to 4G. It's incredible the boost to connection speed I now have in web browsing using the data connection.

*edit* Jinxed it. After 5 straight hours of 4G in my living room, suddenly it switched back to 3G...
*Edit 2* Apparently I can turn 4G back on after receiving a call switches it to 3G, by going into the SIM settings and toggling the preferred data SIM to 2, then back to 1....

It seems that the ‘not available’ message is misleading, and just means that no access points are defined.  I was able to add one.

I got the details from here.  You have to pick a phone, and it doesn't list the Gemini, but I guessed a Galaxy would be fairly standard, and it came up with:

Gemini PDA - Android / Way to save image/photo from MMS?

Thanks Varti!  That is strange, I guess I was spoiled to an extent, as my Samsung Android phones had this feature.

Yeah, this is among the many features which seem to have vanished in newer versions of Android (Or as I discovered with a few core functions, been buried nested away under developer options)

The call wasn't an unknown number, it was my partner's phone which I was making use of for testing purposes. The most commonly called of my contacts.

What are the APN settings you're using?

If you mean Access Point Name settings (Settings -> Wireless & networks -> More -> Mobile networks -> Access point names), it just says ‘Access Point Name settings are not available for this user’.

(Dunno if it's relevant, but I haven't signed in with any Google ID, for privacy reasons.)

Would that need to be set up for mobile data, and if so, any idea how I might do so?

I reflashed my system with the rooted Android and Linux dual boot and was able to edit them after turning on developer mode in Android.
