Gemini PDA - Android / Agenda app settings
« on: September 15, 2018, 10:11:53 am »
It might sound a bit fussy, but being able to set times in 24-hour format is an absolute must if the Agenda app is to be of any use to me at all. So far, I haven't found a way of being able to do this. If it can't be done, I'll have to use a different app. I work in an industry that uses 24-hour times in all its operations, and it's pretty important for me to be able to record them.

Any other good diary/agenda apps that support it, if the Planet one doesn't?

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / 4G Gemini as main device ?

Morning all

Does anyone here use their 4G Gemini as their main device ? if so what issues have you found with it ?

And if not, why have you chosen not to ?

Thank you

Stephen

Yes. I've been using it as my main device since May. I changed over from my previous Galaxy Note 3 the day I got the Gemini. I originally intended to change over slowly, but I've been pleased enough with it to make the change immediately.

Gemini PDA - Android / Which Office App to use?

Which office app do you use?

MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint?

OfficeSuite + PDF?

WPS Office?

Adobe for PDF?

I've found the MS Word app works very well, and displays very nicely, on the Gemini. Combined with Dropbox support for seamless integration with other devices, it's really, really effective and a worthy successor to the Psion's apps.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Bluetooth working to connect to car?
« on: July 04, 2018, 10:07:49 am »
I initially had problems getting music out of my Gemini on my car audio (Dacia Sandero Stepway), but I've figured out a solution. When it connects, it shows up with no problems but won't play music. I worked out that I needed to go to the settings in the Bluetooth menu on the Gemini, and select the settings gearwheel next to my radio on the BT devices list. If I unselect and then reselect "Media Audio", the phone will disconnect, reconnect and then work properly for streaming music.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Gemini PDA Gen 2 Features Request

1) Phone keypad and little screen with caller display details on the exterior, like the Nokia Communicators.
2) NFC
3) Properly-integrated camera

Other than that, love it.

Edit: I just had a very silly thought, but I wonder if the old Psion Series 3 emulator runs in Dosbox under Android...

Haha! Psion emulation on a Gemini would be awesome!

Gemini PDA - Android / Agenda app

So...one of the things that has featured in various bits of publicity for the Gemini is an app that faithfully reproduces the Agenda on the Psion 5mx. This is honestly the best app of its kind I've ever used.

Any sign of the Gemini version anywhere?

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / No audio on first answering calls

Works for me.  (Well, when I tested it from my landline.  Not used it in anger yet.)

I have the ‘always answer calls in speaker mode’ setting OFF; are you sure you've tried that?

Yup, completely trouble-free for me too. I did try flipping the phone around mid-call, but that doesn't work! It clearly decides the mic/earpiece orientation when you answer and keeps it that way through the call.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / LEDison

I've been playing around with my new toy for a few days. The LED lights seem an interesting option. I've worked out how to sequence the lights, so far, in a simple fashion. But I can't find any way of associating a particular light sequence with a particular action, for example the arrival of an email, a message, or a missed phone call.Or even to demonstrate in front of an admiring audience!

If anyone works out how to make red lights scroll from side to side like the ones on the front of KITT, I'll be very happy indeed. Preferably with the relevant sound effect.

It's not a dealbreaker for me, but I'd seriously appreciate being able to turn haptic feedback off on the physical keyboard. I use the device in permanent Do Not Disturb mode as I get all the required vibration notifications from my watch.

Scrolling down a menu in Android feels like I'm using a Dremel, not a PDA...

*edit* fixed it by disabling the virtual keyboard options entirely. No more vibration.

Can you tell me how to do that?

So far it's pretty decent with a few niggles I've yet to resolve. Hopefully others on this forum have workarounds for these issues.

Won't connect via 4G, only 3G on Virgin in the UK, using a 4G SIM. (It also perpetually says "NO SERVICE", even when I'm in a call and clearly have service)

Need to stick my thumb holding the clamshell open in order for people to hear me on the phone, presumably due to the mic being on the inside.

Cannot turn off haptic feedback at all even after disabling all vibrations for key presses, something which if I cannot finally kill it off will be a deal-breaker, since vibrations on every single key press very quickly cause my fingers to get twitches and prevent me from typing well. This is always the first thing I turn off on any android device but it's not seeming to apply to the gemini's physical keyboard.

Any time I attempt to connect it to my PC, I get the old "Device driver software was not successfully installed" message. Meaning one of my primary uses for the device, taking my work with me on the go, is out of the question until a solution turns up. On my old Note, I'd just switch it to USB Mass Storage mode and there'd never be an issue, but that's not an option on newer Android devices due to the continual degradation of functionality in every Android version. About to see if this also prevents me from installing Linux. I'll edit this post with my results.

Took me a while to twig that the NO SERVICE message refers to the second SIM slot. Mine reads "3 - NO SERVICE", reflecting the fact that one SIM slot is occupied and the other is empty.

It's not a dealbreaker for me, but I'd seriously appreciate being able to turn haptic feedback off on the physical keyboard. I use the device in permanent Do Not Disturb mode as I get all the required vibration notifications from my watch.

Something that's dawned on me since I started using it is that this device could *really* do with is a stylus, which of course the Psion 5 had built-in. My just-retired Galaxy Note 3 did too.

Even though you're touching the screen a lot less than you would with a slab-style smartphone, after a while the fingermarks were really offending me! I've just gone out and bought a pen with a rubber "fake fingertip" on the end so I don't have to use my fingers. I'll just need to make sure I don't lose it on a regular basis.

I am a UK backer 43xx
Just got my unit today.
No issues with keyboard. Perfect.
Screen is outstanding - tried a 4K clip and it is bright, crisp and very detailed.
Connected a USB 3 stick - recognised (FAT32) and plays video and HD audio.

Speaker volume is excellent

Build quality is outstaqndig

UK again here, 13xx. Got it yesterday. Certainly won't argue with any of your comments.

Felt like a quality device right away - really nice packaging, and it's a substantial and solid-feeling beast. Backed up the apps and data from my old phone (which took AGES), but generally got everything working fine.

Bit of a steep learning curve, really - the keyboard and layout makes this RADICALLY different from any Android device I've used before, and I suspect it'll be a while before I get used to it.

But...I'm really glad I took the plunge and backed this device. It's truly lovely and turned a few heads when I showed it to people in the office.

Hello! First post here.

Mine arrived yesterday - UK spec, based in Scotland, order 13xx. Had to sit in the office all day knowing it was waiting for me at home!

Impressed so far, although I had a couple of minor frustrations - more to do with my terrible wifi than anything else!
