Gemini PDA - Android / New firmware with date 2018-10-31
« on: November 01, 2018, 08:16:27 am »
I've updated, appears to be a quick patch, there were no update notes or long winded out process of a normal firmware update. Took about 3 minutes.

Only thing I've notice is that after the restart I haven't had to change the calls sim choice from Card2 back to 3UK. That bug which existed since last backup.

Would guess it just a quick bug fix patch?

Gemini PDA - Android / Static IP
« on: June 29, 2018, 06:05:22 am »
I've got the USB hub with Ethernet port and this is great when you connect to anything with DHCP.

The problem is when I want to assign a static address. I don't see the Ethernet network in android settings, why isn't this available along side wifi etc

I can view the address with a terminal window, under ETH0. When I try to assign a static  address, it gives me the Permission denied response.

I know a Linux partition would allow me to set this but I will only go that direction once Planet fully support a dual boot device via a firmware update and I don't have to mess with partitions etc

Until then, has anyone successfully assigned a static address to eth0?

Gemini PDA - Hardware / HDMI Supported Only On Some Devices?
« on: June 19, 2018, 07:15:16 am »
Don't forget about the anti piracy built into the HDMI standard. Its a sort of DRM, think if you research HDCP you'll find out more.  Basically stops you projecting a movie to a device that isn't HDCP compliant.

I can HDMI Netflix to my TV, as its HDCP compliant. Try to HDMI to a computer monitor, it doesn't show. (non HDCP compliant)

Do believe this is an Anti piracy feature of HDMI that may be getting people mixed results too, those who aren't aware of HDCP. Of course this should affect normal projection of desktop, apps etc but this info may help 1 in 100 having issues!

Gemini PDA - Android / New firmware update released
« on: June 14, 2018, 09:32:44 am »
Reluctant to update just yet. Like to leave firmware updates a few weeks for reported bugs to appear and then see if its worth the update.

There is a report on indeigogo below which I believe hasn't been mentioned above, can anyone confirm this is the case?

Be a bit careful about the firmware announced in update #58. It also rolls the security patch level back to Nov 2017 from Feb 2018; that’s EIGHT months of security updates missing. All for VoLTE. Not good, Planet.

I shall check here daily for a fix or work-around from techies who live to solve such things.

I'm surprised that this hasn't been discussed more widely. I'm a writer and bought my Gemini as a writing tool. Whilst it's good, auto correct would make it even better.  The software suggests that it should be in place, so I'm disappointed I can't get it to work. Personally I would like this rectified as a priority.

Works for me in when composing SMS  messages and Whatsapp messages. Not sure if these are built in app dictionaries... doesn't work composing gmail or when replying here....

Gemini PDA - Android / Playstation buttons

Hi and welcome! That part of the screen is called "navigation bar", or "soft keys" (although I like the "Playstation buttons" name better  ). There's already another thread on the subject, though with no definitive answer:

https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=34923

There's anyway a number of apps which should get rid of that bar, please report back if you find any of them to be working on the Gemini:

Hi Varti,

Thank you for the reply, sorry I didn't spot the other thread with the same subject... I will endeavour to find a solution!

cheers

Gemini PDA - Android / Playstation buttons
« on: May 21, 2018, 07:59:42 am »
Reference the three onscreen buttons... triangle, circle and square... I'll refer to them as the 3 Playstation buttons...

How can I suppress these? The reason I ask is that on Netflix, they almost entirely overlay the download buttons on the Netflix screen, they don't appear transparent as they do on other pages...

At some point I did manage to rid the screen of these Playstation buttons during viewing the Netflix download page, which made the experience far more enjoyable.

To see what I mean, you can see the download buttons for Netflix just about behind the Playstation buttons overlay... The blue circle is one episode downloading, the other is a down arrow download symbol.

I'm sure other apps will be affected by these, a keyboard button would be great to turn it off and on!
