Gemini PDA - Android / Google search on any character key
« on: July 05, 2018, 11:08:54 pm »
I agree, it's unbelievable how you can't toggle that feature in the Google app. The only way to get rid of it is disabling the Google app completely, but then you lose needed functionality, especially if you use Google Home for home automation like I do.

It's stupid and they need to implement the ability to disable that.

Gemini PDA - Android / Why would I install Rooted Android
« on: July 05, 2018, 11:05:55 pm »
While I mostly agree with the adage "If you need to ask what root is,you don't need it," we all start somewhere. Root allows you total control over the device to tweak it to your liking. A lot of my favorite programs require root, and offer functionality you just can't get with standard apps.

There are security issues and other things like not being able to get OTA updates when you're rooted. If you're interested just do a little research and then jump on in. I'd recommend you only do it at first if the Gemini is your secondary device. That way if you screw up along the way you at least have a device you can use while you're reflashing the Gemini or it's out of commission for a few hours.

Pretty much sums it up in the title. Do you normally switch off (FN+Esc) before closing the case, or do you just close it. I was wondering if any keys could be pressed before the proximity sensor (or whatever is used to detect the case is shut) triggers. I personally always FN+Esc before shutting. When the keys are compressed by the magnets, do they even travel far enough to act like a keypress?

Why? Sounds like a huge hassle to me.

I don't compile my own APKs, but if I provided the path to the file name (I'm guessing you would need the com.whatever.whatever), do you think one of you could throw together an apk for me real quick? I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Yes I could do that later for you.  If you PM me the package name, a colour preference from the 7 available, which current one you want to replace and your email address I'll do it later for you.

You are an absolute legend. Thank you man, I'll message you in a bit.

Gemini PDA - Android / Hotkeys for App Launching?
« on: June 26, 2018, 01:28:54 pm »
The only thing that would make Buttons remapper perfect would be per-app combinations. I would love to use the same combination but have it do different things depending on the app I'm in, just like a desktop OS.

Gemini PDA - Android / notification LED for missed calls / texts
« on: June 26, 2018, 01:17:04 pm »
Planet Computers said in the campaign that the LEDs would be programmable to any notifications, but their stupid LEDison app only allows incoming call programming; total letdown and useless.

I hope they either open the hardware to other programs like LightFlow or deliver on their promise.

Gemini PDA - Android / Hotkeys for App Launching?

I've read other similar posts, and they don't look promising, but has anybody come up with a way to launch apps with a custom keystroke on pkb?

I have External Keyboard Helper, which does allow app launching with pkb hotkeys, but so far, it's not playing nice with Gemini Keyboard App.

I'm using Nova Launcher Prime--that doesn't seem to have the needed options.

Jake

Actually, the best option is the app called Button Mapper. Utilize the setting to disable it on every app except for Nova Launcher. That way you can quickly hit Fn+D to go home and then any key to launch an app. Multitasking is incredibly fast this way.

I wish there was an app that allowed key combinations so I could set Ctrl+Hotkey to switch apps anywhere in the OS, but there isn't an app that allows that. Button Mapper is the next best thing.

There is an Xposed Module called Xposed Additions that did allow keyboard combinations, but whatever it used to intercept the keyboard slowed down the registering of keypresses so much that it made typing unusable.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Single (ish) device?
« on: June 19, 2018, 07:33:29 pm »
Single-ish device, yes. My only device on my desk? No way.

I have a triple display Windows setup at my desk and I still do need Windows sometimes. It is also a lot faster to do some simple tasks with a full-fledged OS. I also don't think I could get rid of a full sized keyboard and mouse and only use the keyboard and touch screen on the Gemini; that's just masochistic.

But for day to day computing away from my desk, the Gemini has replaced everything else.

I always buy all my electronic devices on Swappa.com. There's been a seller who's consistently selling new and used Geminis on there.

I may be selling mine soon and will throw it on that site. Used to sell on eBay but the fees are so much less over at Swappa.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Request: sample photos with rear camera

Wonder if a higher quality camera module could be "hacked" to work.

Best way is to copy any important data to SD card, this way nothing is lost. Because you are rooted Titanium Backup is a perfect solution too (be sure to set Titanium to store to SD card)
Regarding flashing: If you just use the "download" option in Flash Tool usually nothing will be deleted. Anyway a good copy is useful, if anything goes wrong

Bye for now  Fred (happy Gemini user for a bit over 5 hours! Yes order 2110 was delivered today   )

Thanks, I'm waiting on my now second RMA'd replacement microSD card from Trascend. Once I get it back I'll be backing up my apps and data in TitaniumBackup. Maybe by then the fixed update for X27 Geminis will be available. I've been hesitant to do any updating because I have TWRP, root, and Xposed.

I'm guessing the update will wipe recovery? You think I'll have to re-apply Xposed?

At the time of the update I guess I'll just add the rooted boot.img and  TWRP to Flashtool.

You can easily remap the button, root or no root.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / CAPS lock turning on automatically
« on: June 09, 2018, 04:37:34 am »
Had caps lock stuck again this morning. Seems to happen when opening the Gemini from a closed/sleep state. Haven't figured out what causes it yet.

Reboot is the only thing that fixes it.

Do you leave the plastic on your couches and mattresses too?
