Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Fast charging port
« on: March 26, 2021, 11:20:22 am »
Hi

Basic question but I can't find my manual and can't recall which is the fast charging port on the Cosmo please - is it the one on the left or the one on the right?

Thank you very much.

As my account is fine, it's just the main Google apps that aren't working. I decided to go for the firmware update.

It seemed to download OK.

But it's now stuck on a black background screen that says:

Android Recovery
Planet/Gemini/Planet
7.1.1/some letters and numbers
user/release-keys
Use volume up/down and power
Reboot system now <-- this is highlighted
Reboot to bootloader
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from SD card
(and more lines)

And at the bottom it has a bunch of other lines ending with: "start to update main loader image"

I thought it would all happen automatically... should I go for "Reboot system now" please, or something else?

Obviously I don't want to do something that will stop my Gemini from working altogether!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

EDIT: I bit the bullet and rebooted. Although my Gemini is now on 8.1.0 the "Play Services not supported" problem persists.

Hi, a few weeks ago the above message suddenly started appearing whenever I tried to open Google apps like Calendar, Gmail, Trusted Contacts.

I can get into my Google Account OK via the Settings, Chrome & Google Maps are still working, and Agenda and K9 Mail both work fine.

The Play Store is no longer visible anywhere on my Gemini, not even in the Apps Settings.

I've tried clearing Google Play Services' cache and indeed all data for Google Play Services, but nothing works.

I've removed and replaced my SD card too - still the same.

I am nervous about removing and readding my Google account to the Gemini in case that makes things even worse, especially as my Google Account is working.

I'm still on the original firmware from when my Gemini was first delivered and original Android version 7.1.1 - again I've been unsure about updating them in case it kills my Gemini (you can tell I've suffered from years of Windows updates!).

Any suggestions please as to how to get back Play Store and get Google apps working properly again? (And in what order to try them?).

Thank you.

Do you have TWRP? One solution might be to flash TWRP with sp_flashtool, https://forum.xda-developers.com/gemini-pda...-2-1-0-t3763855 and then install a gapps zip from https://opengapps.org/

Mysterious that it just stopped working, though.

Thanks very much amsomniac for your quick reply. Yes it's very mysterious and frustrating.

Unfortunately I don't have TWRP. I will take a look and see if I can do that.

Any other suggestions please, short of flashing?

The Gemini doesn't, but I got these from Amazon UK and they work fine.

Hello Yev,
how do your rubber feet affect the Geminis ability to stand on it's hinge?
Is it stable enough to keep using the touchscreen, or will the Gemini tilt over when tapping the touchscreen?
I'd have thought the hinge would need to be rubberized for it to stand stably.
Regards,
DrW

@DrW, no problem. The 4 feet are the same height, and spread out evenly near the 4 corners it's very stable.

When I tap the touchscreen there are no issues, it works fine. Mind you I don't tap very hard, and my screen's hinge wobbles a bit anyway on tapping, even before I put on the feet!

Gemini PDA - Android / Silver assistant button
« on: June 15, 2018, 04:34:52 am »
Thank you for the replies @vader, @joepirello and @smapmap.

Like @mads and @Eeems, I don't know how to remap the button.

And I don't know how to delete the Google Assistant cache. In Settings > Apps, Google Assistant is not listed at all. I deleted the Gemini Voice Assistant cache, but still nothing.

Can anyone give more info how how to remap the button please?

@vader also it made me register my voice, but I have to wake it and enter my password before it will respond to my voice, so I can't talk to it to get it to do anything when it's in sleep mode!

The Psion 5mx has small rubber feet to hold it in place better when typing etc with the device on a surface.

The Gemini doesn't, but I got these from Amazon UK and they work fine.

Stuck one near each corner and still have over 40 left!

Not as "sticky" as I'd like but with use hopefully that will come (and I filed them a bit to help roughen them up).

See the photo.

Gemini PDA - Android / Silver assistant button
« on: June 09, 2018, 06:48:42 am »
I've seen lots of mentions of using the silver button to issue voice commands to make calls, do web searches etc.

It doesn't seem to do anything for me, whether my Gemini is open or closed.

Not sure if I disabled it inadvertently but I can't find any settings to customise it etc.

Also the Fn + space shortcut which is supposed to bring up the Google Assistant does nothing on my device.

Gemini Voice Assistant was pre-installed, and I didn't do anything to it.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks in advance.

Gemini and add-on received (day late because of US Customs). No problem with that.

Surprised to see the device display GERMAN text instead of English.

What now?

Configuration made difficult by having to translate every thing....

Why am I not surprised by this cock-up.

I got that too. Just tap on the language and select English instead.

Tried that, it literally only drops them as far as the edge of the current home screen, it won't let me drag them to new ones.
Ok, drag it just off the end of the last homescreen. A new one will pop up. I will see if I can get a screen cast showing how to do it.

Nope. It's as if the homescreen is locked somehow. I can drag it right to the edge of the screen so far that half the icon is off the side, but it does nothing, just snaps back the moment I get past the edge.

I struggled for ages with this too until I hit upon it by accident. The secret is not to drag the icon to the edge of the screen. Instead, drag it to between the first screen and the permanent vertical bar that shows the telephone icon - in the vertical area which I've marked with a yellow X in the attached screenshot. Then it moved the icon to the second screen, for me. Does that work for you?

Gemini PDA - Android / Gemini fast unlock?
« on: June 05, 2018, 08:15:06 am »
Thanks for the info.

I use a password not PIN.

I found that pressing Esc simply locked it again, sometimes it worked but often it just locked it.

However pressing the Spacebar enabled me to then enter my password, in case it helps anyone else.

Thank you very much for this useful thread Varti

Two factor authentication - this might be obvious to others but it wasn't to me - during the initial setup I couldn't get past the authentication page showing the picture of a USB key (which I sometimes use with Google for 2FA).

Then I realised that I had to scroll down to see the other authentication options like SMS, etc. But I don't recall seeing a scrollbar or anything indicating that there was anything further down the page. At first I thought there was no choice.

Also, if you generate backup codes https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1187538 from the Google accounts security page first before you try to sign in using the Gemini, then you can use one of those codes if you have issues with the sign in e.g. with texts not being received.

Finally I found that you have to reboot not just to disable the keyboard vibration, but also I tried to disable then reenable the screen rotation, but it wouldn't rotate again until I had rebooted twice.

I only got 3G or No Service at first on Virgin.

Here's what worked.

Go to Settings > SIM cards.

Switch it to CARD 1 under each entry of: Mobile data, Calls, and SMS messages.

Now 4G no problem!
