Gemini PDA - Hardware / Gemini shutting down PS Vita charger?
« on: September 17, 2018, 03:58:41 pm »
Has anyone tried charging their Gemini with a PlayStation Vita charger, specifically the PCH-ZAC1, as pictured:

I've tried using this charger, with the USB A-to-C lead which came with the Gemini, on two occassions. Both times, the Gemini was charged up a few dozen percent OK, but then stopped charging before it was full (less than 50%) - the red light on the top of the case went out, and there was no charging symbol on screen. What's more, the charger itself seemed to stop working on other devices. However, after some hours or days, the charger started working again. As I say, this happened twice, exactly the same, including the charger coming back to life again later. I haven't tried since, in case it was causing some damage. The Vita charger seems fine for all my other devices, and other non-Gemini USB chargers seem to work OK on the Gemini.

So, as I say, I was wondering if anyone else has tried this charger, or wishes to do so if they're brave. I can't work out what would cause it to stop working for several hours like that. If it was a blown fuse, you would expect it to not start working again!

Gemini PDA - Android / Debloating the Gemini Android OS?
« on: June 25, 2018, 11:31:04 am »
(Sorry if anyone doesn't like the term "debloating" - the Android on the Gemini is actually very close to stock, but debloating is the standard term for removing any pre-installed apps that you may not want for one reason or another.)

I was wondering if anyone has gone through the list of apps on the Gemini and taken any decisions as to which ones are "safe" to remove? I realise that this is somewhat subjective, e.g. some people are happy with Google apps, some aren't. It would certainly be useful to compare notes on this.

You might find that your router can also act as a local DNS server.

Gemini PDA - Android / Root Wi-Fi-only model?
« on: June 17, 2018, 04:30:47 pm »
Is it possible to root the Wi-Fi model with the material that has been released so far? There is still no Wi-Fi model firmware on http://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Gemini_Firmware but is it safe to use a boot.img from a different model firmware?

Gemini PDA - Android / Android navigation bar - re-order icons?
« on: June 17, 2018, 09:07:20 am »
Thanks for the reply, but I think we're talking about different things. I'm talking about the native Android navigation bar, on the right-hand edge of the screen when in landscape.

Here's how it appears on the Gemini:

Here's how it appears on other Android phones I've used, while in landscape:
 [ Invalid Attachment ]

I'd like the Gemini to look the same as the second picture, with the buttons in that order, as that is what I'm used to. I'm wondering if there's a way to do that. From a brief bit of research, I think I might be able to do this with Xposed, if rooted, but I've never used that before.

Gemini PDA - Android / Android navigation bar - re-order icons?
« on: June 15, 2018, 11:03:05 am »
Hello. Very pleased to have received my Gemini today.

Regarding the Android navigation bar (with the back, home and task switcher buttons), is it possible to re-order them? Currently they are in order, from top-to-bottom:
  • Back
  • Home
  • Task switcher
I am used to my Android phones, which when held in landscape instead show the icons in order, from top-to-bottom:
  • Task switcher
  • Home
  • Back
Is it possible to change the Gemini to also show the icons in that order?

Please note that I am currently on the stock firmware, 09052018. I have not yet updated to see if this is now a feature in the stock firmware, but when searching I haven't seen any mention of this. If this requires rooting, I'm happy to do so. Many thanks in advance.
