Gemini PDA - Android / Disable red border when using the battery saver?
« on: December 08, 2019, 04:52:56 am »
I’d like to have the battery saver mode active most of the time, and I do that in my Sony phone, but in the Gemini it sets a garish red border in the screen.

I understand that Planet Computers might want to avoid having users missing messages and notifications because of it, so they encourage us not to use it (red border, disabling it as soon as you start charging), but for me that’s not a problem and I need this feature to be usable.

Is there some way of disabling the red border?

Gemini PDA - Hardware / MediaTek USB-UART on Gemini-PDA

Is there a reason the OP recommends an USB A to A cable? I only have one and would rather not cut it up, but I have plenty of A to B,mini, micro etc cables. Can someone explain the wiring differences to me?

Not sure what kind of USB-A to A cable the OP used, because they are not standard. Some are meant for host-to-host communication and have active components in the middle, others are straight through for certain peripherals that have a USB A instead of the USB B / mini / micro they should have.
Kiriririn's post indicates that you just need a straight connection with the only active component being the USB-to-TTL-serial adapter, like those you bought.

I haven't done this particular cable yet, so I can give you only general advice: the important thing is to check the connections with a multimeter, because cable colours do not always match.
You could even use a USB-C to A cable, cut the USB-A part and plug the wires to the USB-to-TTL-serial cable. This is how I plan to do it.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Teardown?

Thank you very much, Daniel.
I too have been looking for interior pictures for a little hardware mod I have in mind, to see if it might be possible in principle.

There were a few other pictures of the final prototype pieces in PlanetCom's Indiegogo updates of August 2017.
The only one that adds something to your excellent pictures is one showing the main board.

I've tried to find a way to link to those updates in particular, but that doesn't seem possible so I'm re-posting here the picture of the board, and the video that shows the board with the front camera attached and being tested.
