Gemini PDA - General Discussion / FAT32 limitation

The FAT32 limitation is a real pain! I have a lot of stuff on a portable USB drive (NTFS) that I would like to carry with me.

Is there any way to embrace either EXFAT or NTFS?

This is one of my previous comment from another thread (Android OS - USB-Sticks):

I use Total Commander with plugin Microsoft exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software (one-time purchase for lifetime). I connected sucesfully flash drive Patriot Supersonic Magnum 2 512GB formatted in exFAT (not FAT32). When I connect it with Gemini via adapter (USB type C to USB-A), I open plugin, mount it, and then I can easily access all content on the flash drive, copy and move between Patriot and Gemini. It is true transfer speeds between laptop (with NVME SSD and USB 3.1) and flash drive are around 300 MB/s, but between Gemini and flash drive transfer speeds are around 30 MB/s. But it is working, it takes only few seconds to start transferring data.

Gemini PDA - Android / notification LED for missed calls / texts

I am not sure if LED of the Gemini is RGB. Maybe it is restricted only to certain colors (green, red) and it can not change to any of whole spectrum of colors.

My impression (from a few minutes with LEDison) is that there's a good range of hues, but that the overall brightness is fixed.

Which would be a shame; no smooth fades or other effects.

Sorry for not being exact. When I charge the Gemini, have notification from Aquamail or Informant, there is active other set of LEDs (closer to the edge). When I tried LEDison, it uses different set of more LEDs, that is in the center of the lid.

AENT, thanks for the Tasker tip. I had purchased Tasker a while back so I installed and took your advice in setting up a missed call notification.

Alas, while Tasker does show a missed call in notifications, it won't light up an led. I am not rooted and I remember that Tasker likes a rooted phone, so that may be the problem.

Unless I set up something wrong...

I've gone through apps in the Playstore, but none of them light an led.

Jake

It looks like the access to LED is somehow limited by firmware. Some apps can bypass the limit (like Aquamail and Informant), but others can't. Examples of the above mentioned apps give us hope, we must be patient. BTW I am not sure if LED of the Gemini is RGB. Maybe it is restricted only to certain colors (green, red) and it can not change to any of whole spectrum of colors. This is my opinion.

I do not use Gemini for voice calls, but I think notification for missed calls could be set with Tasker. You can try to create Profiles -> Event - > Phone -> Missed call, create Task -> Alert -> Notify LED. LED notification works with Aquamail and Informant. It seems it is set for infinite blinking. LED Blinker Pro does not work properly on Gemini, but on my Galaxy S9+ does. Maybe we need to wait for future firmware update.
You can also try some app from Google Play, that is focused directly at missed call reminders with support of LED notification. When the above mentioned Aquamail and Informant support LED, hopefully some other apps will do too.

How does a USB-stick need to be formatted then? As said, the USB-stick I tested works fine with other Android device, version 4.2, though.

If it works for any Android it should work on the Gemini. Have you installed the latest firmware? Is it still running the stock Android as supplied, if not that might be related.

Have you checked the notifications (swipe down from top) after inserting the stick?

Not quite correct...

The Android installation on the Gemini includes drivers for FAT32 but does not include drivers for ExFAT.  Nearly every other Android device from the last 5+ years includes drivers for ExFAT.

The result is that if you put a card larger than 32GB (native ExFAT) in the Gemini it demands to reformat it to FAT32.

I haven't tried this again since yesterday's update, but I doubt it has changed.  Microsoft charges device manufacturers a significant chunk of change to include ExFAT drivers.

I use Total Commander with plugin Microsoft exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software (one-time purchase for lifetime). I connected sucesfully flash drive Patriot Supersonic Magnum 2 512GB formatted in exFAT (not FAT32). Gemini PDA - Android / Hotkeys for App Launching?
« on: June 23, 2018, 10:02:45 am »

I apologize for not being clearer. In Buttons Remapper, if  you choose shortcuts rather than apps in the Other section, you get a choice of ready-made shortcuts.

But, for example, you made your own shortcut to a document and stored it on the desktop, that custom shortcut will not appear as a shortcut choice in Buttons Remapper.

Apologies again for my lack of clarity,

Jake

If I select an option Shortcut, I can choose Total Commander, here I can then select any file (document/media etc. file and after pressing keys it opens in proper app). There is also option to use Tasker, here I can select any task. OK?

Good, glad it works for you too. If you can figure out how to launch home-made shortcuts, please let me know

Jake

I am sorry for misunderstanding. Could you be more specific? What do you exactly mean by "home-made" shortcuts?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...buttonsremapper

I think this is the easy solution, (but hats off to eeems for figuring out Automate).

Buttons Remapper Premium, which is needed for combination keys, is $1.99usd. Install free version, then bump yourself up thru app itself.

So far, I've programmed all my needed apps to launch through a held-down Alt key + whatever-letter-chosen. eg: for my thesaurus (Chambers Premium), an Alt-T brings it up regardless of window. Buttons Remapper autostarts on reboot. A single press of Alt still brings up App Bar.

I use Alt-W to bring up Word Processor (Textmaker HD), but there's an option to bring up a shortcut instead of actual app. I'd like to program Button Remapper to bring up specific doc (thru its shortcut), but I've yet to figure that out.

This is the easiest avenue I've found so far and I'd be interested to hear other users' opinions.

Thanks to all that got me on the proper path,
Jake

I have tried this app and I consider that better than Button Mapper thanks to combination of keys. Thanks a lot for tip. The investment of 20 CZK (= 1 USD) has been definitely worth it.

Before I close the Gemini, I tap on Screen Off and Lock app (from the Google Play), that turns off the screen and locks the device. It works reliably.

Can Button Mapper recognise specific combinations (such as Ctrl+Fn+F, without also recognising Ctrl+F or Fn+F)?  (Its page isn't clear, but none of its examples suggest that.)

And does it slow the keyboard down if it's set to recognise many different combinations?  (I thought I'd seen a report of that, but I can't find it now.)

It seems it supports only one buttton. I can not press two or more buttons simultaneously (at least I have not figured out how to do it). I can set single press or double press or long press. I can even set time of double press and long press to be recognized. On my old HTC TouchPro2 I have an app, that allows to set such behaviour, but not here.

Gemini PDA - Android / Textmaker - hw arrows
« on: June 21, 2018, 01:29:41 pm »
I have installed full version of Softmaker and Planmaker (both HD and Mobile). When I for example write 12345 and the cursor is between 1 and 2 and then press right arrow, the cursor jumps between 3 and 4, not 2 and 3. It is similar in Planmaker, when it skips columns. It happens even Microsoft folding keyboard. In any other app (OfficeSuite Pro, Aquamail etc.) it is working properly. When I use software keyboard (Swiftkeyboard) everything is fine. Also PgDn works great in Textmaker HD/Mobile. When I connect Microsoft folding keyboard to my Samsung Galaxy S9+, Textmaker works OK. Any help would be appretiated.

I've read other similar posts, and they don't look promising, but has anybody come up with a way to launch apps with a custom keystroke on pkb?

I have External Keyboard Helper, which does allow app launching with pkb hotkeys, but so far, it's not playing nice with Gemini Keyboard App.

I'm using Nova Launcher Prime--that doesn't seem to have the needed options.

Jake

Actually, the best option is the app called Button Mapper. Utilize the setting to disable it on every app except for Nova Launcher. That way you can quickly hit Fn+D to go home and then any key to launch an app. Multitasking is incredibly fast this way.

I wish there was an app that allowed key combinations so I could set Ctrl+Hotkey to switch apps anywhere in the OS, but there isn't an app that allows that. Button Mapper is the next best thing.

There is an Xposed Module called Xposed Additions that did allow keyboard combinations, but whatever it used to intercept the keyboard slowed down the registering of keypresses so much that it made typing unusable.

I have installed Button Mapper. I have set exception for App Bar. Wherever I am, I can press Alt, release it, and then press for example T and Total Commander immediately launches. I do not have to press Fn + D and then press T. For me it is faster.
