Gemini PDA - Hardware / Gemini not booting
« on: January 05, 2020, 10:06:11 am »
Yes, that was the problem. I didn't realize that only the left port can be used for charging, and the box is now fully charged and working again.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Gemini not booting

I have a Gemini running Linux. I haven't used it in a few weeks, and it's been plugged in the whole time (right side). Now, it does not turn on. I tried the power/ESC switch, power/ESC + the side button for 15 seconds. Nothing seems to help. Any ideas on how to revive my machine?

Gemini PDA - Linux / Gemini no longer booting
« on: July 18, 2019, 12:26:19 pm »
I have a Gemini with Linux installed (no Android). It had been working fine.

Just now, I powered it up, got the Penguin splash screen, and then a few seconds later, the dead Android dude, with the red triangle on his chest, and "No command". This seems completely reproducible, unfortunately.

What happened?

How do I fix it?

Gemini PDA - Linux / Desktops (workspaces)
« on: July 22, 2018, 10:01:59 pm »
I figured it out. The number of desktops is configured in ~/.config/kwinrc, in the [Desktops] section.

I set the number to 4, and bound ctrl-alt N to desktop N, N = 1..4.

Now if I could only figure out how to go to the next or previous desktop, instead of selecting by number.

It looks like you have multiple desktops enabled. How did you do that?

Sure, just activate any window’s system menu (click on the icon on its title bar) and then choose More Actions -> Window Manager Settings -> Compositor. Check the box that says "Enable compositor on startup"
[/quote]

When I select Window Manager Settings, nothing happens. No dialog box, no new window, nothing. Any idea why this might be happening?

Where would I find those configuration tools?

Gemini PDA - Linux / Adding a user
« on: July 17, 2018, 11:50:01 pm »
The Users and Groups tool does seem broken.

I also tried "useradd" which didn't work right. I forget, it's "adduser", which worked fine.

Gemini PDA - Linux / Adding a user
« on: July 17, 2018, 03:10:31 pm »
I'm having some trouble adding a new user. I somehow added one user successfully, using the Users and Groups tool under Accessories. The new user's id is 100001 (1 greater than that of the gemini user), and this user shows up on the login screen.

Then I added a second user. This one has an id below 100000 and does not show up on the login screen.

I don't know what I did differently the two times. How do I add a user who can login?

Is there some way to use multiple desktops or workspaces using LXQT on Linux? The Keyboard Shortcuts have entries for "Switch to Desktop N", 1 <= N <= 4, and I tried binding keys to those commands, but those keys then seem to be ineffective.

Multiple desktops would be extremely useful, given the small amount of screen real estate.

Is there some way to use multiple workspaces or desktops?

Under Configuration Center -> Shortcut Keys, there are bindings for "Switch to desktop N", for N = 1..4. But when I bind those, e.g. to ctrl-alt-N, and use the shortcuts, I stay on the same, original, desktop.

Multiple workspaces/desktops would be very handy on this machine, given the small screen size.

Gemini PDA - Linux / System load
« on: July 12, 2018, 11:47:19 pm »
I have just installed Debian Linux on my Gemini.

I have a QTerminal running, and I'm running top in it. I did not start any other processes.

top Shows a load average between 9 and 10. The top consumer of CPU is Xorg, using 5-7%.

Why is the load average so high? Is this typical?

First ignore geminiplanet its a vanity/evangelist site from the same person as the private facebook group, plenty of 'slightly' wrong/out of date stuff lives there, though often it gets fixes in comments etc.

The official guide is best:

Thanks, this guide provided everything I needed, Linux is up and running!

Gemini PDA - Linux / Installing Debian -> Red Triangle + No Command
« on: July 11, 2018, 03:56:45 pm »
I am following this guide to installing Linux: https://geminiplanet.com/how-to-install-deb...-on-the-gemini/

First, I installed all of the items contained in Gemini_Debian_TP_scatter.txt. On reboot, I saw the Gemini-with-a-Penguin screen, but then the Red Triangle and No Command screen.

They I tried a subset of files from Gemini_Debian_TP_scatter.txt, as described in the documentation. Same result.

Can someone tell me the right set of files to install?

Also, what is the correct reboot key sequence: Silver button + ESC? Which buttons do I release when? There seem to be differing opinions on what works, and I am still unsure based on my own experimentation.

Edit: Further problem: I can no longer flash the phone. I make sure the phone is shut off, hit Download on FlashTool, plug in the phone. Then I get a modal error dialog box, and the console (where I started FlashTool) says:

    Connect BROM failed: STATUS_ERR
    Disconnect!
    BROM Exception! ( ERROR : STATUS_ERR (-1073676287) , MSP ERROE CODE : 0x00.
