Gemini PDA - Linux / HDMI output with linux

Has anyone here managed to get HDMI output working on Linux?

I am using the original Gemini USB-c to HDMI adapter.  I successfully get a mirrored screen in android, but with the stock debian install I get nothing - the display isn't recognized.
