Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Maybe goodbye..
« on: March 03, 2020, 09:45:03 am »
So my Cosmo stopped charging one night, had been fine for two months, no concerns or quirks I wasn't happy to put up with, woke up one Friday and it was dead, wouldn't charge, managed to get one basic start of a power-up cycle before it fully died. sent it back to Planet and have now been told they have found water ingress and as such its not covered under warranty. it's not been near any spills, the only thing I can think of is it had some rain on it whilst I was using it outside. to replace it is a full new device at 479 USD. I could claim on house insurance but that will affect premiums for next god knows how long so would likely cost me more over time.

so from being excited throughout the year plus that I was a backer and recently at the prospect of getting the dual boot working, I'm now deflated and not sure what to do next. if a bit of rain can kill it I am not sure I want to go again. I love the concept etc but it's now tarnished my desire. a Key2 can be had for ~ 260 quid which is just over half what it will cost me to get back on a cosmo.

I've been using my lads Huawei P10 for last couple of weeks and it reinforced how much i hate on screen KBs.. AAARGGGHHHH!!!!!

Any sage advice out there?

As recommended on the Gemini fb group " Rotation control pro" seems to work perfectly, 2.79 to buy but hey HP that's what google rewards pennies are for

so started with these IT things back in 1981 when I bought my ZX81 after getting hooked on the schools Commodore PET 8K. still own it and the two VIC-20s that followed. Missed the ST/Amiga phase out and got back in with 286 PC which was sold to buy my now wifes engagement ring. done a few jobs in my life from selling esoteric Hi Fi to running pub restaurants to working in a Call centre but have somehow managed a career in IT for the last 22 years. currently a VP in a blue chip org as a geek on java/Middleware/DB/risk etc in production environments.

phone wise also always been a bit non mainstream, sanyo mobile phone anyone else? whist the in crowd were 3310 I was siemens, when they went N95, I was e90( still got ) , when they went iphone I went N900(still got), 5" Android? yeh, I was there with a Dell Streak.. however I've always prefers a HKB so soon found my way back to a Bberry passport(still got), Priv and currently driving a KeyOne.

I'm also a full on Petrolhead... bikes, cars, anything with an ICE is good by me

Can't wait to get my Cosmo as and when its ready, I've always been happy to be in teh bleeding edge of stuff and am not the sort to winge when being there occasionally cuts me.

So thats me.. looking forward to being part of a new merry bunch of freaks and weirdos..
