Well, that's good to know. How do you go about opening the c1000 model?

Six screws... 2 of them are in the battery compartment...

Late

---

Just an update...My Z's been in a drawer for a while and when I charged her up again there was no sound at all out of the speaker.  I finally mustered up the courage to open it up.  I gave the speaker's contacts a going over with a clean cloth and reseated and reassembled.  After a short prayer to the computer gods I pressed the power button and all seems well with my Z and its sound.  Getting those six screws out was a real bear for me!

Thanks for the replies.

For Sale / Wanted / For Sale - Sl-c1000 Plus Basics...

Hi All,

It's been awhile since I've frequented this forum, but I am coming around to the fact that my Z is gathering dust as of late.

For Sale:
1 SL-C1000 with screen protector installed
1 Japanese compact AC adapter
1 US bulkier adapter
Stock stylus

Decent battery.  Currently is running with Cacko.  I bought it that way about 1.5 years ago and though I have added apps I have never reflashed or anything like that.  I will do my best to depersonalize the device, but I am leaving that particular OS on there.

Some scuffs and minor scratches on the lid from regular use.  The screen looks great as it has always had a protector on it.  There is a small dimple in the lid top on one side.  It does not affect motion and swivel of the lid and the screen is fine.  It's been like that since I bought it.

I'd like to get $225 plus shipping to the US.  No international buyers please.  It's too much of a hassle.  The unit will ship in it's original box as well.  I'd like to see someone get some use out of it rather than have it sit in a drawer.  I've actually been using my Newton more than anything else of late!

Well, that's good to know.  How do you go about opening the c1000 model?  Is this a common problem with Zaurus clamshells?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi folks,

Lately I have noticed that my speaker is intermittently on and off when I use my Z.  If I press a bit with my thumb right next to the speaker grille the sound comes back.  When I let up, it's gone again.

I get the feeling that there's a loose connection at the speaker itself, probably something that just needs a good crimp.  Is disassembly a pain for this?  Am I on the right diagnostic track here?

I'd hate to be soundless.  The headphone jack works great.  Without the speaker I can't use my Z as a reliable alarm clock or pager pest.

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Doc,

I am a c1000 owner as well.  I am wondering if you ever got the wireless side of that CF and Memory card to work properly?  Was it still able to function as a storage device as well?

Thanks,
Scott

General Discussion / Newton Emulator On Sl-c1000
« on: June 22, 2006, 07:52:32 am »
<sigh>

OZ is required, eh?  That's a bit of a deal breaker as Cacko is running very nicely right now.  I used OZ on my 5500 and was not thrilled.  Plus I do not feel like starting from scratch with my Z!

Plus, any chance of fullscreen emulation?  640x480 is tough on older eyes, and it looks like the resolution on the Einstein emulator is the same lower res as the Newt...Which makes it even smaller!

Hi Shawn

I have the same arcade stick (X-arcade).  It's seen by Windows as a standard KB, so logically It should also show up that way with your Z.  You'll have to remap some of the stick's "keys" to work with the Z's keymap.  There's no control key, for example, so the top left button won't work out of the box with the Z's emulators.  Basically, if the Z sees it as a standard HID compliant keyboard you should be fine.

Hi folks,

Recently I tried to mount the Z's SD card portion of it's storage as a disk on my PowerBook's Desktop.  I am running OS 10.4.x.  When I set up the Z (under Cacko) and hook it up using the appropriate cable I get visual feedback on the Z's screen that communication is in progress, but on the Mac end of things all Hell breaks loose.

After a lot of spinning beachball time, I end up with at least a dozen mounted HD's representing my Z....And it does not stop.  It keeps mounting volume after volume.  I can eventually horn in and open one of the disk and slowly copy everything at USB 1.1.  Then I have to either restart, or try to unmount all of these rogue volumes.

So, what am I doing wrong, or is this something unique to Macs, or Cacko?

Well, admittedly, I wouldn't mind keeping my CF slot free for storage.  What sort of adapter works for this?  Do they come with the appropriate cabling as well?

I fired off an email to the seller of this card and got this information about the card:
---
BILLIONTON is the brand name. Power consumption is 42mA/3.3V.
The CFLT uses the Tamarack chipset, but I don't know what the power requirements are or if it will work on a Zaurus. If the Zaurus has a standard CF or PCMCIA slot and supports a NE2000 driver then it will work fine.
---
So can anyone tell me if this card will work in a C series machine?

Thanks!

I have no idea what the brand name is.  I was able to grab the photo from the page and attach it to this post.  I will ask the seller for more specifics.

Thanks!

What do you all think?  It's chock full of specs!

Compatible out of the box with the C series or Cacko?

Is it a good buy?  Any other possibilities?

Thanks!

Ahh, I had wondered about that.  If I reflashed would I be stuck with Japanese GUI at first.

What's the best out of the box networking card for the Cacko ROM?  Wired and Wireless are both options for me.

Thanks!
