Zaurus - Arch Linux ARM support / Re: Update: C1000 / Akita support
« on: May 02, 2025, 05:12:47 am »
There used to be separate kernels in OE/Angstrom for C1000 and C3x00 models.
Probably due to the minute hardware differences. I have a C1000 now, but just that alone does not tell me what is the difference.
Need to compare older 2.6 kernels for each I guess. OE repo may have some clues.

and as per above hint from ant:  CONFIG_GPIO_PCA953X=y is set in your kernel ?

MMC reverts are related to the SD card support (this is GPIO driven)
the others are supporting a certain CF card
    fixing OTG support
    bumping power budget on USB

so no, not only about GPIO

uboot ? yes, you can build a uboot to fit as a replacement for kexecboot kernel, but you have to port it yourself :) pxa support in uboot is not that recent I believe for pxa270 or any pxa.
kexecboot was a sensible choice back then...and still is

There is a fixed size of this partition due the sharp bootloader. Its not changable as far as I know.
The sharp boot loader can load any kernel placed into this partition so its not too bad :)
1.2MB is about right, but if you have bad sectors on the NAND it can become less.
Issues are reported that some kexecboot kernels that are very close to 1.2MB would fit certain devices but not others..

Yes, the latest voidz package is 5.4.229. I can upload a build if needed, still working on a new voidz rootfs with new kernel.

There is binary package for 5.3.221 here https://github.com/greguu/voidz-packages/releases/download/build-008/zaurus-5.4.221_1.tar.gz

there should be the latest kexecboot versions. the files should contain a boot.cfg.
otherwise look into the voidz rootfs tarball for an example config

The power management is a bit broken since 3.x kernel I think.
You can re-plug the charger cable _after booting_ and the zaurus may charge properly.

Have you tried the "D+B" recovery mode ? This should bypass kexecboot. You need to time it right and follow the instructions. It should work.

There will be a new voidz release coming up,  initially with kernel 5.4.229, perhaps with a newer 6.x based kernel later on.

The package feed will contain the same packages as in the last release plus netsurf browser and libraries.

Please let me know what packages you like to have included in the package feed.

No, there are several libraries required - not only SDL, but it uses the SDL framebuffer backend in this case, yes.

I am not sure the about the 4.19.0_1 kernel, but audio worked fine in 4.14.x I believe.

You can try the latest kernel 5.4.221_1:

https://github.com/void-linux/void-packages/commit/85ecb614101fe05b8141c0e4975be2d58e13642d
https://github.com/greguu/voidz-packages/releases/download/build-008/zaurus-5.4.221_1.tar.gz

You could also try the test rootfs with Netsurf, I believe it uses the 5.0.0 kernel, but there is no package feed for this rootfs.

Hey, this belongs more into the Zaurus sections of this forum...

But to give some feedback, the SL-C860 has not seen any support for a long time. The options with OE and pdaXrom are your best bet atm if you want to run something at all. It wont be secure or up to date !

The SL-C1000  and SL-C3X00 series has still some "recent" support and options to build up to date linux packages and use it securely.

I had plans to play with the SL-C-XX0 models and revive them but there is no real demand, apart from the odd request like this ;)

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Re: Current use of Gemini?
« on: December 04, 2024, 01:31:31 am »
The most recent Sailfish OS update from this year is the final one. This is the most up to date you can go in terms of "official" support for the Gemini by the Jolla folks. It may last into late 2025, then it will become outdated...

I was playing with the thought to revive the Linux kernel porting for it... but it may not be worth considering most users have moved on and the battery issues etc.

GPD Pocket - hardware / GPD Pocket 4
« on: December 04, 2024, 01:26:31 am »
Just to start the conversation...

There are several models and expansion options.  AMD powered with good IO options, too.
Swivel screen like the Zaurus, with touch.. nice.

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/pocket-4-modular-full-featured-handheld-ai-pc#/updates/all

Code: [Select]
AI 9 HX 370 and 8840U, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD, RS-232, KVM, 4G LTE, microSD card reader

Still, the price is high...if not for the size, one can get the ASUS Zenbook S16 with similar specs cheaper.

Most importantly the keyboard. Its not a reform like mechanical one... but does it hold up ?

There is a YouTube video review of the Pocket 4 in the link above, but it does not go into the keyboard at all...
